I'm a Pens fan to my core so suffice it to say that I really like Geno. I really like Kessel as well. I grew up in Pittsburgh, but I've lived in a different city for going on 18 years now so I've not seen or heard much about who said what to who, and why ultimately Phil is in Arizona now. That being said, and speaking to the language barrier, true or not, Geno's English is pretty terrible. There are a lot of Russians in the NHL, most of whom speak far better English than him, Ovi being a prime example. Maybe having Gonchar on the team ended up hurting Malkin in the long run. I'm sure it was nice his first few years here, but it could have also gave him an excuse to not work harder on learning the language.

Yeah, but you don't know if Kane said anything or not. Being sad about a player leaving is not the same as demanding for them to stay and getting denied. Kane will play with anybody and play great. Toews, Versteeg, Richards, Panarin, DeBrincat, Strome, Saad, etc. He typically lets management do their job while he does his, whether he likes their decisions or not. Kane is just as important to the Hawks as Sid is to the Pens. Without him, they don't have 3 cups. I'm sure if Kane threatened to leave if they traded someone, management would listen without hesitation. Thing is, Kane wouldn't do that. He loves it in Chicago and wants to stay with the Hawks. Kessel is hamstrung & castrated on the 3rd line. Carl Hagelin ! Please ! That was like Mike Keenan putting Mike Gartner on a 3rd line in '94. Put him with Messier and Graves and Amonte and Leetch and Zubov, Gartner scores 50. Phil would score 50 if he played on Sids line and Jake on the Left. Bad Move ! That's like trading Ron Duguay, Eddie Johnstone and Eddie Mio for Willie Huber, Mike Blaisedell & Mark Osbourne. Disaster ! Duguay went on to score 80 & 89 points with Detroit immediately after. Or Walt Poddubny, who scored 175 points in 2 seasons, getting traded for Normand Rochefort. Hideous ! Believe it or not, I like Jim Rutherford, but hes done Nothing in 5 years. Trading one scrub for another scrub ! Some guy with 22 pts for a guy with 19 points. GETTING Kessel was his only good move ! James Neal for Hornquist ?? Neal scored 40 goals. Hornquist gets 20. Theres 6 stars on the Penguins.: Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Guentzel, Letang & Murray. All Rutherford does is wheel & deal all the expendable guys. Borrowing from Peter to pay Paul. Silly, insignificant trades, that net nothing. Other than Kessel, the last time the Penguins landed a Big Fish was Francis & Tocchet.
