I saw this about a month ago from Rob Wallace in Iowa. I think it is a 'new and improved' version of my robo rest. I do need to get one and test it out. They make a freestanding one as well that screws to the bench. One turner on the AAW Forums commented that the levered one was a bit wobbly, but he was a new turner. People had the same problem with mine. I do like the skew add on. I did have a problem with the handles bumping into the platform base when I was at my lowest angle setting, which was about 20 degrees which is too acute for a skew.

I’ve been using your roborest for approximately 5 years and would be lost without it. In combination with the wolverine system it’s all I need.

I have to honest Reed I find it very stable ... my preference is the incremental version though.
@robohippy7 ай бұрын
By incremental, the ones with the adjustable bolts below? Seems like that would not be enough angles for me. If I was going that way, I would have a seat for one end of the bolt and as many different bolts as I needed, but I have no clue as to how many I would need.....
@MikeWaldt7 ай бұрын
@@robohippy No Reed the one with 32 holes is the one I favour, as you say the bolted one is a bit restrictive.

watched you over the years and all the different sharpening systems that were "awesome" at the time have come and gone. 8 yrs ago we had the CBN wheel set up, followed by the Robo Rest, total repeatability, could not be any simpler to use. Moving on you ditched the CBN set up for the Sorby Pro Edge, again total repeatability. Now back to CBN wheels & the Right Angle Sharpening System, which as far as i can see does not seem any better than Robo Rest, in fact the Pro model seems like a pain in the proverbial to set up. Just my thoughts

Dear Mike, thank you very much for introducing this great, useful product to us. I've been looking for a sharpening aid like this for a long time, Now a crucial question for me: can I get this addition for my grinding machine from any dealer in Europe, or do I have to import this tool from America to Germany (-expensive-😭)? Thanks and greetings Djamil P.S. they don't ship to Germany
@MikeWaldt7 ай бұрын
Hi Djamil, they will ship to UK and Europe but costly with import taxes on top.

can you use it with bowl and spindle gouges?

If you free hand sharpen, yes you can Dennis.

That looks like an interesting solution Mike mate. A couple of questions if that's ok. Does it come with the bar for the wolverine system or do you have to supply your own, the first automatic one, when you are using one of the threaded bars at the extreme side, something like the first one you did is the other side of the platform sturdy, IE does it twist or vibrate. Shay
@MikeWaldt7 ай бұрын
Hi Shay, 1 - It comes as a unit with the bar. 2 - No movement ... solid as a rock mate. Hope this helps. Cheers Mike PS Thanks for watching 🙂

It appears that both platforms use the Wolverine bases for attachment to the grinder. Both platforms look very well designed and constructed. Thank you for sharing Mike. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

They also do a bench mounted version Glen.

Since you got the grinder a year ago you have discarded the wheel covers ! Were they interfering with the operation in any way ? Thanks for the update on the platform system !
@philscoltock50827 ай бұрын
Covers are essential when using stone grinding wheels like AliOx because if they fail - they explode and you get 100s of chucks of sharp stone flying around. Mike has CBN wheels which are typically aluminium with a CBN coating - zero chance of that exploding. Removing the guards probably reduces possibility of trapping fingers etc too

See Phils' answer below ... exactly what I would say. Thanks for watching.
