Sauron is the Great Deceiver. He can get into people's minds and make them see whatever he wants them to see, just like how in last season he made Galadriel see her brother.

Sauron also got into Galadriel's mind last season, if you remember. It just seems he needs a lot to sustain that deception.

It might help in accepting the Stranger's story if we just assume he's one of the blue wizards. The show is trying to evoke familiarity with his dialog that makes the audience think he's Gandalf, but I don't think that's it. They're also trying to make us think of Saruman when they show us the dark wizard, but that also doesn't fit the lore. The fact these two istari are so different from those 2 characters and that they're being so firmly set in Rhun really screams blue, since Rhun and the magical cults in the east are the only things we know about them. This might be the Blues' origin story with the Stranger and Dark Wizard completing each other as a neutral pair.

The blue wizards ultimately failed in their mission, so if they’re developing background for the guys that tried and failed that’s fine for someone I suppose - in either case I stand by my reaction and the points I made therein.

I know it doesn't fit the timeline in terms of arrival to middle earth,but personally I'd love for the Stranger to be Saruman. The connection to the hobbits, only for him to end up sacking the shire, all the tree stuff, only for him to fell so many(a wizard should know better).the fire he keeps seeing, connection to Sauron.

I don't think the "dark wizard" is an istar at all. I think they are introducing Kamûl the Easterling, who will later become one of the Nazgul. So a human sorcerer.

A lot of this reaction tells me you clearly didn´t really watch/take in season 1... If you get beyond your resistance you will both enjoy and get more of the things you miss in each episode. And you miss many things. I highly recommend rings & realms.

i appreciate Zack calling out the inconsistencies and changes they’re making from the original source material. i also don’t like having the wizards in this story since they’re not supposed to be here. the writers or show runners are having them show up in Middle Earth thousands of years earlier than they should be. in the books they don’t show up in Middle Earth until the year 1000 in Third Age. this show takes place in the Second Age.

There are technically wizards around in the second age. the Blue Wizards. There’s not a lot told about them and there are also conflicting stories. So these two wizards COULD be the 2 “Blue” ones.

It distinctly says in the Appendices of Return of the King under the section “The Third Age” that the Istari appeared after a thousand years into the Third Age

⁠​⁠​⁠@@MarieS610could you tell me where it talks about the Blue Wizards coming in the Second Age? I’m not trying to sound mean, I just don’t know about anything saying that. In the Appendices of Return of the King, it talks about how the Istari came to Middle Earth 1000 years after the beginning of the Third Age. it would make more sense if they are the Blue Wizards, but it still doesn’t fix the timeline problem they created at all.
