The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power news has shown Tom Bombadil is going to be in season 2 with a west country accent. Have you ever wanted Tom Bombadil to sing about his combine harvester in an accent that no American will be able to understand? Well now you can! Rings of Power is going to be predictable in quality, but I never saw this coming. This will be a show where the entertainment has to be found and created by the audience itself. Tom Bombadil's accent is bound to be as funny as the harfoots were in the first series. Can you imagine his combine harvester accent combined with their evil roaming across the countryside? I think it'd oging to be gold. But what do you think of what you saw? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)

He may have gone as far east as the Gardens of the Entwives, but there's no evidence. Tom Bombadil does not give two shits about anything that is happening in the world outside of his own little forest. He would not care about any shadow that looms over the land or peoples that are traveling across it. He was there long before any of them and would remain long after all of them are gone. The ring may not have any effect on him, but even the company disregarded using him as it's safe keeper because he would most likely grow bored with it and throw it away. I fail to see how he could serve any purpose in this series.
@freman0076 ай бұрын
Yes. Tom had only one master, himself, and although he might respond the entreaties of all free people he wouldn't see the need himself. He was, in some sense, a personification of the world they lived in, and even if Sauron could not overthrow him in his domain, he would have no interest in overthrowing Sauron, and could be safely ignored.

10:33 nothing, not even a desert would be a wasteland if Tom lived there. In fact, there would not be a desert where Tom lived, because it would bloom and small streams would begin to flow between the rocks, birds flying, catching insects and deer grazing on green meadows.
@fantasywind39236 ай бұрын
Not to mention that the one place that would be closest to 'edenic garden' would be Entwives gardens...still not in Rhun, but in Rhovanion, Wilderland, near Anduin, in place that later was known as Brown Lands...the Entwives gardens got destroyed during war of the Last Alliance. The Rhun is just a general designation of the geographical direction, it means East...so basically it denotes entire eastlands, which are either great grassy plains or "forests unexplored" and the Sea of Rhun is one major feature, etc. in the more distant place are Orocarni Red Mountains, of the east, and there were in the Uttermost East the lost lands of Cuivienen and Hildorien where the Elves and Men had their origin, certainly beautiful lands but still mortal ones and not some earthly paradise (Valinor plays that role). Tom can exert his power over the place, though he doesn't own it, he just works on it doing miraculous things...I mean Tom is the guy that can walk through rain and come out dry :). " Tom Bombadil came trotting round the corner of the house, waving his arms as if he was warding off the rain - and indeed when he sprang over the threshold he seemed quite dry, except for his boots. " This is a perfect example he can use his power to ward off the rain off of him, but he doesn't tell the rain to stop raining :). "'Then all this strange land belongs to him?' 'No indeed!' she answered, and her smile faded. 'That would indeed be a burden,' she added in a low voice, as if to herself. 'The trees and the grasses and all things growing or living in the land belong each to themselves. Tom Bombadil is the Master." Tolkien also writes of him: "He is [as Goldberry says] master in a peculiar way: he has no fear, and no desire of possession or domination at all. He merely knows and understands about such things as concern him in his natural little realm. He hardly even judges, and as far as can be seen makes no effort to reform or remove even the Willow. ... I do not mean him to be an allegory - or I should not have given him so particular, individual, and ridiculous a name - but 'allegory' is the only mode of exhibiting certain functions: he is then an 'allegory', or an exemplar, a particular embodying of pure (real) natural science: the spirit that desires knowledge of other things, their history and nature, because they are 'other' and wholly independent of the enquiring mind, a spirit coeval with the rational mind, and entirely unconcerned with 'doing' anything with the knowledge: Zoology and Botany not Cattle-breeding or Agriculture. Even the Elves hardly show this: they are primarily artists. Also T.B. exhibits another point in his attitude to the Ring, and its failure to affect him. You must concentrate on some part, probably relatively small, of the World (Universe), whether to tell a tale, however long, or to learn anything however fundamental - and therefore much will from that 'point of view' be left out, distorted on the circumference, or seem a discordant oddity. The power of the Ring over all concerned, even the Wizards or Emissaries, is not a delusion - but it is not the whole picture, even of the then state and content of that part of the Universe." Also funfact regarding any sort of comparison with the Entwives: "He has no connexion in my mind with the Entwives. What had happened to them is not resolved in this book. He is in a way the answer to them in the sense that he is almost the opposite, being say, Botany and Zoology (as sciences) and Poetry as opposed to Cattle-breeding and Agriculture and practicality"

I don't think Tolkien even knew how to fit T.B. into the stories. Tom Bombadil was the name of a doll his kids had and he wrote adventures for him. Then added him to LOTR. Tom is actually a VERY interesting enigma of a being and he's different. The One Ring has nothing over him. He's aloof to say the least These writers will ruin it for sure
@bricelory95346 ай бұрын
I remember one interesting analysis of Tom Bombadil, emphasizing that wonderful origin of the character and Tolkein's own vagueness of who he was as a sort of expression of how the wilds aren't explainable and aren't meant to be. I love Tom Bombadil because he's entirely a mystery. But he's never a mystery meant to be solved, just appreciated because there exist things we cannot understand nor should expect to. There's more to this world. It's a magic in and of itself, different from the more concrete magic of elves and wizards - it's the magic of awe for a thing simply being the thing it is. And that is, I think, also part of why it is so rejuvenating for the hobbits. The fact that they're going to explain him makes me absolutely die. There's absolutely no way they will handle with any subtlety a character who doesn't have an origin story, is a fuzzy mystery to even the wisest in-universe people, and who seemingly brushes by the grand events of history with just a smile and a song. I half expect we will get a ham-fisted origin story for his yellow boots, and the writers will congratulate themselves for doing something they assumed fans wanted.
@LiveFreeOrDie2A6 ай бұрын
Seriously. I always found him the most interesting character in the books because he was an enigma meant to be left alone. The fact the One Ring that corrupts *EVERYONE couldn’t be entrusted to Tom Bombadil because he would care so little about it he may misplace it and not keep it safe, was just so mindblowing and meant to be left as it is. Just have an open market and don't gatekeep, let it happen naturally. And you know some franchises are just more male oriented and that was the appeal from the beginning, such as Batman, Marvel, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings so... @AnoneemusNoename Fun story i'm from Denmark. One of the best movie Directors we have is a woman called "Susanne Bier." Pretty much every single movie she makes becomes a classic. And of course, she was poached by Hollywood because duh, she made just one tely show I even think starred Nichole Kidman, came back home to Denmark and went. "Never again! That was the WORST! I don't care about the money. That was awful!" .... Which is a common story in Denmark we have a lot of talent, loads of it get poached by Hollywood, and then they come back because apparently Hollywood is the worst place on the planet. Mads Mikkelsen are still routinely making movies in Denmark! He doesn't HAVE too, he's been in so many huge franchises, but he does. So yeah moral of the story, the talented people doesn't even want to BE there. So all there is left is the talentless hags! also wow I didn't realize that was directed by a woman. That's pretty good, it's unusual to see a woman make good action movies and action scenes. I am not saying no woman ever could, I am just saying it's unusual.

This theory was tested when Tom held Sauron's ring in his hands and promptly threw it away without a care, not at all affected by the influence of the ring. My point is, 80krauser is correct in that analysis, the sheer irony that a DEIwashing cancerous festering people are going to corrupt the very concept Tom as a character who is the very antithesis to what they themselves are by nature which is 'polluted by arrogance and pride and dark ambition'. As Tolkien wrote about him: "He is [as Goldberry says] master in a peculiar way: he has no fear, and no desire of possession or domination at all. The power of the Ring over all concerned, even the Wizards or Emissaries, is not a delusion - but it is not the whole picture, even of the then state and content of that part of the Universe."

The amnesiac Gandalf could join them. But that would require character building, not their forte. Bombadil, who has been around since the Dawning, could find their various selves a pleasant distraction and, thus, without investment, bring Gandalf to his senses, put the Ent on a path, and determine the origin of Hobbits, all without losing his indifference.
