I understand there are some valid criticisms of the show, but there is one that I really do not understand. Some people (not you two) are saying “why did they make Sauron Jesus like”. Annatar is the form Sauron uses to trick Celembribor into thinking he was sent by the Valar. He is supposed to be very angelic like. This is directly from Tolkien yet it amazes me some would criticize it lol. Edit: to make it easier for you both, just call Celebrimbor “Brimby” haha

"He has crazy power, why doesn't he ever use it?" Said right after he uses it lol. But in all seriousness, the reason he doesn't show his power that often is because Sauron's greatest power is deception. He fully commits to whatever character he needs to be to fool the people he is around to get what he wants. If he used his power all the time people would realize who he is and he wouldn't get the rings he needs

So far, it seems like they’re keeping the stuff people who liked Season 1 enjoyed and have fixed some of the issues people who didn’t like Season 1 were complaining about. I like getting more of Sauron’s POV. I really like what they’re doing with Elrond and Galadriel. Disa and Durin IV were two of my favorite characters, so it’s great to see them again. So regarding your questions about why Sauron has all this power and doesn’t seem to be using it… Sauron has a long game to play here. Just walking up, displaying his power and forcing folks to do his bidding is a quick way to creating enemies and rebels. Instead he’s trying to manipulate all of the peoples of middle earth while he continues to grow his power. As we all know, ultimately he is going to forge the one ring which will control all. But before he can get to that, he’s got to convince everybody that the rings are good things for them to have.

Watch Nerd of the Ring’s breakdown on this episode. He’s got a theory about the two wizards I’d like to see happen. There are two contrasting ideas about the Blue wizards in lore. In one, the wizards lead the fight against Sauron; in the other, they fall under Sauron’s influence and start cults associated with him. NOTR’s theory is Ciaran Hinds is the evil blue wizard and the stranger is the good blue wizard. Maybe I like this idea because I don’t want the stranger to be Gandalf.

At Sauron's/Annatar's *transfiguration* moment you noted that it all seemed Biblical. Then you asked why Sauron didn't always do that. The answer is similar as Gandalf/Mithrandir's (although with different ethical goals.) In Jackson's movies you saw Gandalf glow in the big battle at Helm's Deep, you also saw him glow during the exorcism. *Sauron and Gandalf are third tier deities,* in Tolkien's universe, but dress as men *so they can hide.* Sauron dressed as both a man and an elf (and even as other creatures) when necessary. If you want to go more deeply, and I suspect you don't, you can look into how gods in ancient myths appeared as human to do this or that deed. In the synoptic gospels the Jesus character undergoes a transfiguration ("on the mount") to reveal his true nature, but only to a few of his disciples, because his goal is to hide his true nature to everyone else. These old ideas of gods hiding themselves is another one of those things that inspired Tolkien *to cobble together a kind of universal mythology.*

Having Halbrand admit that he was in disguise and wasn’t human was a good way to handle the transition. I’m enjoying seeing things from Sauron’s POV. On the whole, I’m enjoying Season 2. The characters are better realized and the pacing seems a lot better. If they keep it at this level, I can sit back and enjoy it for itself.

Yes I agree, there is a noticeable improvement in the writing compared to the first season, and the same goes for the pacing, direction, and editing. It’s as if they reshuffled the cards and this time arranged them in the right order. The first episode of this season was already written far better than the entire first season. I take it you have not actually read any Tolkien. Sauron was not dark at all. Being one of the most powerful among the Maiar, his true name was Mairon, which literally means "The Beautiful/Admirable One."
