That's a good point- for me rebuilding my old account it's been a huge help keeping things efficient and reducing the frustration doing tedious quests that I did numerous times years ago, like fremmy trials. However I have also breezed through new-to-me quests that in hindsight it might have been fun to fumble my way through myself. I think this topic is gonna divide opinion and ultimately jag won't be able to swing one way or the other without upsetting a large proportion of players.

First time ever seeing a video from you and I'm struggling with understanding if this blatent misrepresentation of information is just for jokes or not. Lot's of parts from that reddit post (and mod gengis clarifications) have been entirely left out. For example: - The 97.7% picking "full assist" is not representative as it's the default setting when installing the quest helper. - Mod Gengis also asked "Should Quest Helper someday be ingested as a native feature within the game with more specific degrees of hand-holding to tailor the desired quest experience?" which was shown in the video but not read and skipped over. - Mod Gengis said in a comment later: "I can't stress this enough - I am simply trying to understand and learn more about how our player base uses the QH plugin. Please don't interpret my questions as a desire to change things." Plus some blatent misinterpretations, namely the sentence "90%+ of people used to use some for of guide even in the RS2 era, whether that was a fan site, video guide, or something else" in one of the shown reddit comments. You take from this comment that 90%+ of people don't use any guides without quest helper. I don't know where you get that from. 90%+ of players used to use some form of guide back in the day. This doesn't say anything about what people would do if they didn't have a quest helper. If your aim is to make truthful, factual and informative content you failed. If your aim is to be funny then I'm not your target audience or you're not great with delivering those jokes. If your aim is rage bait then congratulations, you did an amazing job. Tl;dr: quest helper is here to stay. It won't be removed anytime soon. Actually it's used as a metric for their official plugin api as it's incredibly complicated. Mod Gengis put out a reddit post asking players how they feel about quest helper and its effects on the game. Plus he mentioned that it they even consider integrating some form of it into the default client.

Even with quest helper quests are my most hated part of the game, so many of them are just vile for the sake of being vile like having to go back and to to ape atoll for monkey madness, or trekking through the underground pass. Or just stupid stuff that surely no one thought was a good idea like having to wait real world minutes for a character before you can speak to him. If they remove quest helper i dont know when ill ever do a quest again i already hate doing them haha. Ive done like 105 of them and got barrows gloves so i dont really need any of the other ones currently since most of the quests dont get you anything other than a little exp.

There's one quest can't remember which one where you have to wait for a guy to come back and I think it's 20 minutes you wait and you have to stay there the whole time haha

@@civilservant9528 He's not wrong, at all. I don't "like" questing, but I do them out of necessity. Locked content, FAT exp drops in early game, etc., are the sole reasons I do quests. If they didn't give anything and were just lore-based filler, almost nobody would do them. Day 1 of new quests, people rush it for the post-quest content. Look at DT2, Making Friends with My Arm, DS2, MM2, and other quest releases that had post-quest boss content. People didn't do the quest for the lore and experience, they did it for the post-quest bossing, and money making opportunities. It's not because they like questing; they strictly want GP.

I love the quest helper. Sometimes I use it to make sure I'm bringing the right items, teleports and stuff, but read through and do the quest myself. It saves a ton of time running around trying to figure out what I've forgotten. I enjoy the quests way more WITH the quest helper.

There was plenty of options for quest guides before the wiki, or even before youtube. I survived on Sals realm, RuneHQ, Tipit, etc. in 2004. As fun as doing a quest for the 4th+ time is the plugin is great QoL

As someone who has played since 2004, I can say that running Quest Helper is indeed just really good. Making new accounts and running the same repetitive quests over and over gets annoying, especially since QH streamlines the thinking of what you should and should not bring at certain points during the quests. Back in the day, RuneHQ was the spot to pull up in-depth, step by step quest guides. When I started playing OSRS, Slayermusiq was already making KZbin video guides on quests. I actually STILL use Slayermusiq's guides when new quests release, because as someone who doesn't have the time like I did back when I was younger to play and grind through new quests, I want to get the quest done and keep playing content I want. Not many people care very much about the lore of the game. Those that do, can simply NOT use guides of any sort. It's that simple. Any excuse to remove Quest Helper is a bad one. It's simple to just not use it... The point you made as a response to the first reddit comment you put up is pretty bad. "Those 90% of people would just not use the helper and figure it out without guides." My brother in Christ, you have a KZbin channel. You can google search "_____ quest guide" and be given videos to guide you through it. That's also been accessible since Runescape videos started getting uploaded to YT, as were written guides.... Quest helper is just to make things a bit faster, and since half of the playerbase has at least 2 accounts, it's definitely just more of a quick convenience to be able to zoom through quests you've most likely already finished AT LEAST once before. I have no clue why this is even a discussion.

Do an in-house quest helper. Have a flag on your jagex account that indicates whether or not any quest has ever been completed on any of your attatched characters. Unlock full assist after any of your accounts has completed the quest once. Crack down on 3rd party quest helpers to enforce it. Everyone gets what they want. If old players cant be bothered to do a quest a single time with sightly less assistance than the full assist, i have no sympathy for their complaints. Maybe play hello kitty island adventure instead. This would also get everyone using their jagex launcher if they arnt already, another good thing for jagex

Any idea when these changes could happen?? I will end up just having to use wiki and YT and will feel the need to rush quests.. Quest helper lets me focus more on the actual story and dialog. When I use to do quests without QH I'm instead thinking about what I've got to do next, rather than what I'm doing now. For example, instead of reading dialog I will now skip through it, while looking at another screen reading or watching about what I'm meant to do next. Questing will become more tedious, slower, and less entertaining for me (appreciate different players play differently). Genuinely surprised that the player base wants this. Also devaluing any old quest capes before the change.

I got into and play runescape for quests. I love the storylines and the lore they bring. I trained to meet the stat requirements for quests and beat the bosses in them. Quest helper should stay. I use it when repeating quests in leagues I've already done several times, and I acknowledge there are people who just wanna focus on PVM or other aspects of the game they enjoy and don't really care about quests. When I play through a new quest for the first time, I disable quest helper. But it being an option is a good thing.

I think Quest Helper is absolutely essential but apparently some/many people don't read the dialogue!?!? That is insane.. I think Quest Helper is absolutely dire! But also doing quests without reading the dialogue is a total waste of time. It's like why would you even do the quests if you don't read the dialogue. It's like playing console games and skipping all of the cut scenes... Utterly insane... I think not reading the dialogue is even more insane than being against Quest Helper.. Which is utterly insane being against Quest Helper already... Immersion is most important but being able to do the Quests with Quest helper is close to as important. Reading the dialogue is so incredibly important but The Quest Helper is so extremely helpful. It is not at all to skip the dialogue... But to be able to do the quests easier. Seeing exactly where to go and what to do - not to ruin the quests completely by skipping the dialogue.

Have a significant amount of people complained about quest helper??? Why must devs meddle when their game is doing great and players are having fun? Do they really think removing quest helper is going to bring in new players? No, if anything it will drive a large portion away. Osrs questing is not fun for everyone. Its a chore to get unlocks. And there are still many quests that are hard to do even with helper. There are quests I definitely cannot do right now with helper. If they remove quest helper, people who don't quit are quickly on their way to $25 a month membership.

seems pointless because its not pre installed, you have to go out of your way to download the plugin. So it's not really taking away the integrity of quests or the game, because you can easily turn it off or not download it to begin with then boom, back to normal and reading the quests doing it yourself etc. IMO quest helper needs to stay its just there IF you want it ( which i feel like a lot of people do)

I spent at least an hour completing a a quest that should only take 5 minutes. (Please read in your most sarcastic voice) Oh boy, I tell you. I sure had fun. I truthfully have always hated questing. Even with SlayerMusiq1's guides questing just felt like a chore. I still remember my stumbling through dragon slayer back in 07. And most sights that gave guides also gave viruses.

Honestly, anyone who cries about the quest helper needs a hug. We all can beat quests without it, it just takes longer. The quest mechanic of OSRS is not fun. We want to rush through it to get rewards. I'd understand if it was a skill issue but it's purely a time saver.
