The rise and fall of Pride Month

Pride month seems to be faltering - why is this? There are a bunch of reasons - it’s getting taken over by gender ideology and kink, it’s flooded with cynical corporate money as businesses try to pride-wash themselves and it’s even starting to reject the gays and lesbians who should be core to it.

This was a schism back in the day, split between people who wanted to be accepted as normal versus those who wanted to fly the freak flag. The latter won out. Pride reflects the rejection of integration in favour of multiculturalism, emphasis on balkanising society. True acceptance comes from humanising and normalising minorities, but people just getting along despite their differences is anathema to identity politics.

thats literally MOST gay people. i know this sounds cringe, but i have a lot of gay friends. pretty much all of them get actually angry when people call them lgbtqia+++batman sign instead of gay. they do NOT want to be associated with those people. it doesn't even really have anything to do with being gay anymore. one of my gay friends is banned from cardiff pride because he got shouted at for not being covered in rainbows and not supporting homosexual people enough, and he's not really gay. he started shouting back and instantly got arrested. they were even calling him straight as an insult. i was at his wedding....i can vouch that he is in fact a gay and was a LONG time before it was fasionable..... i'd leave my kids with a gay person without worrying about it at all. i regularly leave them at my friends house to play with their kids, and they're the biggest pair of raging lesbians you'd ever meet. i would NOT leave them with some man in a dress that screeches that he is lgbtquiosjkdhf and i am cis or whatever.

In my view even if it was, it would be of really poor taste to respond like that. Children should be off limits, shouldn’t they? It is in every decent person’s interest for children to be protected. To think we’re seeing kids being exposed to things that are shameful even for adults, is a tragedy and we’re creating a world full of confused children who will struggle the day they have real problems.

So have in my time done all the marches, signed the petitions, written the letters, etc.. At one time Pride could be a family event and the worst you saw was people in shorts and the singlet type of tee shirts. The chants were there but not offensive. More over it was a party BUT still had the protest side of it for equal rights. I am afraid these days it does seem like people want to go to the extreme. Pride has been high jacked by some the extreme groups that have an agenda that is not inline with what Pride was originally for. I have said it, either on here or somewhere else, that the LGBT+ community can be its own worse enemy. Seen some Pride parades that have all the fetishists in and to me that is wrong... keep fetish wear to the fetish scene (think there is one called Falsom, or something like that, which is an adult only event). Some of these fetishists are not even from the LGBT+ community. BUT then again a lot of these "offensive" Pride parades that have seen online have been from the USA, so wondering how much of this is a backlash against the extreme right wings of the American society, e.g. Moms for Liberty and Proud Boys. This last weekend my town had it's Pride festival and everyone was respectfully dressed, the entertainment was terrific with nothing offensive to the people with children there (even the compere engaged with the kids, drag artist called Vivien Twist), people were not overindulging in alcohol that they became troublesome and everyone had a great time, even though kept raining, and that is what Pride should be. There was no counter protest. It is about time the community itself started policing these events and start saying to people "You are not welcome, go away" BUT then you would have them shouting discrimination. I don't know what the answer is BUT if it carries on this way can see people like myself eventually not wanting to go and that would be a shame for it was us through all our years that made it safer for people to be who they are.

My uneven skill development makes me a little like that. I'm gifted well beyond what my IQ would indicate in some areas. And then I'm average or below average in others. i can go from nearly genius level to impaired from one moment the next depending on the situation. But I'm not as impaired or as gifted as a savant. I'm the only autistic person in my family. But my brother is a member of the Mensa organization. That requires a person to be in the upper 2% of the population. In Canada the news is forced to call the group “LGBTQIA2S+” and my bi and a couple trans friends all hate it, and especially the inclusion of kids to the point they want to disassociate themselves from the group

I can remember when it was mainly just "LGB" and it was solely about acceptance and fair treatment, I was always in support of that. I understood it even better after my grandfather died and it was revealed to me that he was gay. So I suddenly had the context that this man had to hide who he was, marry a woman, and have a child to keep up a socially acceptable façade in the 40s and 50s. The irony is if he hadn't, my dad and I wouldn't exist so he sacrificed a lot of his own happiness for that. I know with great certainty that if he were still with us today, he'd be disgusted with what this has all turned into.

LGB is the only thing that makes sense. It is supported with biological science. However, this is endangered with the inclusion of the rest of the group. Their entire existence is the disavowal of basic biological principles and by doing so threaten the identity of the LGB. They are essentially part of a delusion that gaslights people and makes their lives miserable.

I teach youth group at my church, had a new girl come in one day and she honestly thought I was talking about the alphabet community when I asked for a definition of pride, she didn't know what the word meant apart from that. That said, I'm of the opinion that the spirit of the original meaning is alive and well under the new definition, thriving in fact.

I think it’s absurd that anyone would associate “pride” with something as random as sexual orientation. I happen to be gay, a woman, never cared to scream my “gayness” from any rooftop, because why? We have a gay couple who live down our street, two great guys, and when I asked them whether they planned to march in our city's Gay Pride Parade they responded, a bit to my surprise, "How can we be accepted by mainstream society when we dress up like clowns and dance and prance down the streets like fools?"

Hookup culture has gotten too much of a hold on society, and now people feel it denotes something special when they prefer to know the person they’re being intimate with. Sex positivity, like Pride, was good when it was needed but now people have taken it too far. People think being kinky is a personality trait, and some people think they can bully people for not having kinky sex with strangers, as if roaming the streets looking for something to screw is a productive use of time.

i agree. people aren't usually bullied, but the current climate makes it seems like not getting regular sex = failure at life. when one is career driven, dating often gets out of the priorities list, and sex follows that. even for women, being a virgin until one's early 20s is seen as unusual. it really should not be if the woman is focused on her studies in college/university.

I’d begun to rail against “Pride” month at least 20 years ago. Back then , at least in Seattle , it was nearly as trashy as in recent examples. But my dissatisfaction , (and Leo could’ve taken this script - albeit not as funny - from what I’d had to say back then) but , a can assure you , my opinions were NOT taken well by the “community” . In fact I’d been accused of suffering from internalized homophobia. Lost friends over it. Needless to say I’m more than pleased to see more and more people agreeing with me.
