Season 13's ending was storywriting hall of fame. If they'd ended it there, with season 14 maybe being a swan song/love letter to the fans, RvB would've been damn near flawless. Ever since then though it's just been done to death, and now we're witnessing the most disrespectful funeral ever with season 18.

Even though the show still had some decent moments up until 17, ending it with 13 would have been perfect, maybe they could have just thrown in a short epilogue episode afterwords or something. Now we're at 18 and uhh...why the hell is it even called Red Vs Blue anymore? It completely isn't. The new characters are completely forgettable, the villains' motivations are on par with Snidely Whiplash, the show consists of 90% incomprehensible action scenes that makes me feel like I'm watching damn Transformer movie and the writing is fucking HORRIBLE.

Zero was cool only in fight scenes it made me glad that they are sorta going back to that amazing fighting. But the plot and story sucked. If it was the reds and blues tho with their classic and stupid ways of winning then it would have been fine but only one of them were in the show. But yeah zero sucked

They should have left it at season 13. With that cliffhanger, leaving the audience in the same position as Church, ending it off not knowing for sure what will happen to his/our friends. Not knowing if they'll make it through, but just having faith in them, faith that it all ends well, even if we never get to see it. It would have been the perfect send off to the show.

Going into 17 I was totally expecting a shit show. But getting rid of the director of season 15 and season 16 was the right move. 17 was surprisingly good. Then the show went back to being dumpster fire with zero.

As someone who has PTSD the way they did Epsilon's partition really hit me. When you have PTSD it is because your brain is trying to protect you by repressing and removing that traumatic moment, because it is too hard to deal with. However, because of this you get flashbacks as the brain cannot treat it like a memory: it hasn't processed it and so it feels like it's happening in the present. In therapy I have had to relive every single second of when that car hit me and blew a hole in my leg. You have to face it, to make it a memory, to make it a part of your past and not your present. Only then can you (at least try to) let it go. Don't suffer in silence people. Take care of yourselves. Fucking crazy the depth this series had!!

It actually looks like they ripped a soldier model from a modern based video game.

I feel that one of the most underappreciated parts of seasons 1-10 is the soundtrack. As the story becomes more complex, so does the music. It begins to reflect the tension and mystery they're creating, and it soundtracks some of the best and worst times of my life. I catch myself humming the different season themes when I haven't watched it in a while. Nothing gives me chills like the percussion behind the "Dear Director..." Clips

Honestly it was quite the opposite for me. As someone who had no care for Halo I had no interest in RvB as I saw it as just some Halo machinima. However, the CG enticed me with its creative and dynamic choreography which persuaded me into giving the show a chance. I did try to watch the first 5 seasons but I just didn’t have the patience, while the comedy is good it’s not enough to carry an entire season for me. Season 6 onward had actual plot progression which made it more accessible to an outsider such as myself. That paired with the CG and they were able to reach a wider audience without sacrificing what made the show good to begin with. So if anything I’d say the CG only benefited the show but that just my view on it.

Gonna point this out. You lost interest because they stopped being indie. If one of the major reasons for you watching it was a pure machinma instead of the characters or story being told. You didn't actually enjoy the show. You never held a real interest in it. Personally I do not care is something visually is not my style. As long as it does what it sets out to. I do not care. I think one of the things that makes the series really unique was how the story feels like it was planned from the very beginning, even if it wasn’t. Church became a ‘ghost’ in the first episode (or close to it) and the way that tied into the Freelancer storyline several seasons later felt like it was all preplanned. It didn’t feel like a haphazard tie in. That was part of the early brilliance of the show. Later on, it was how they could tell this heavy story (Wash, Carolina etc.) while still having a enough comic relief that it was still recognizable as RvB, and that the comedy acted as one of the obstacles the serious characters needed to overcome then eventually accept and integrate to complete their goals. The biggest positives of the later seasons were seeing almost everyone have their own hero storyline. The problem with them is the introduction of “gods”. Once you do that, you mess everything up-there is no where else to go. Who’s bigger than a god? Can we just go back to fighting some aliens, or some mercs who got a hold of Hargrove’s version of the Meta’s suit or something?

Way late but totally agree. The big mistake I think they made was, instead of kind of returning to a low level blood gulch chronicles style of storytelling after season 10, they decided to keep upping the stakes. The escalation cycle honestly is the same thing that ruined the Supernatural series for me after a while. You can only strike the ball so far into left field before you can't watch it go anymore. And honestly, RVB seriously doesn't need stupid levels of escalation, the original thing that got people interested was watching a couple of dumbasses in a canyon act like dumbasses, that's all you really need. You know that because the original seasons still hold up today.

One underrated aspect of season 9 is how much character is packed into the character models, the female characters have a different body type, C.T is short, North is tall, Maine is bulky as hell and Carolina's facial model looks better than the one used in season 10 imo.

The finale of season 10 is probably my favorite scene from the whole series personally. Through flashbacks the director is built up to be a faceless monster, driven by his goals and ruthless in disposing of those that get in his way, but when you finally meet him in person you find a broken man so exhausted by chasing shadows that he watches a clip of his lover over and over in hopes that he finally figures out how to recreate her just right. But it’s fruitless he probably knows that but simply cannot admit it. When I finally saw his face I didn’t feel the anger or hatred he made me feel previously or validation at him finally getting what he deserves. What I felt was pity. to make me of all people have a full turnaround in viewpoint towards a character is not easy. That ending was a very powerful moment that I had never expected to come out of a series that started with a bunch of friends just talking to each other to pass the time. Really goes to show you don’t need a big budget or powerful backing to make a good series just dedication and passion.

Honestly, thank you for this video. You perfectly summed up all the things I love about the series and why it's stayed so dear to me these many years. I really appreciate that you didn't immediately write off seasons 15-17. I completely understand where people who wanted S13 to be the definitive end are coming from, but while they certainly weren't the best (season 16 falling especially short) there were a lot of great little gems and character moments in 15-17 that I'm happy we got. Holy shit RvB : Zero broke my heart though. I never watched the series in full, and never will, but even hearing the gist from your video just...there's no other way to put it. It broke my heart. When you were talking about what they did with Tucker's character I literally just paused the video for a moment and thought "Look how they massacred my boy." And even Wash and Carolina weren't themselves. The retcons, the dismissiveness of literal years of development feels so disrespectful to what Red Vs Blue as a series has accomplished and what it means to so many people. I wish the series could have ended on a high note. I wish Rooster Teeth as a whole had ended on a high note instead of becoming what it is now. It's hard to watch your heroes leave, your favorites fall, and beloved things turn sour. But the beautiful thing about shows like these is that we will ALWAYS have it. We will always have those adventures to look back on and cherish, those characters to laugh with and enjoy. Red Vs Blue has been a huge part of my life for over a decade. I'm one of the few people who got into video games BECAUSE of rvb and not the other way around. My sense of humor, my passion for gaming, SO much art I've done over the years...all because of some losers in a box canyon wondering about one of life's great mysteries. Remember Season 8 when after the Tex fight, Caboose initiated "Armour Lockdown", in which all units inside the facility entered recovery mode where their armour freezed up? Remember Season 7 how Donut was shot, then in Season 8 following the lockdown, Church took everyone out of Recovery Mode, including Donut who got up all the way in Valhalla? Recovery Mode is a mode where the users are placed in a simulated reality of their surroundings while their bodies are locked to prevent further injury, like tying a belt around your leg because of a snake bite, but for your whole body. In this mode, they can communicate with nearby devices, such as AIs, Smart Vehicles, other units in lockdown, and radios. Sarge wasn't in the afterlife with Church. He was in Recovery Mode.

The worst part is that although season 13's ending was satisfying, it also laid out the groundwork for a new chapter of the series where the Reds and Blues are now badasses who want to take on Charon with the assistance of the Meta's suit and the new AI from Epsilon fragmenting himself to create new, more powerful AIs. Church's speech was him saying goodbye, not the series, and it's almost like rooster teeth forgot this setup even happened. Meta's suit as well as the fragments from Epsilon kinda just disappear and the show never feels the same again.

Imma be 100% honest here, once s13 ended I genuinely didn’t know they attempted to continue the series. By that point (if I’ve got my timelines correctly) i got tired of seeing drama coming out of rooster teeth. I Lost interest in most of not all of their work by that point. I remember first watching RvB my freshmen year of college. I forget how it got recommended to me, but I just remember my roommate telling me I NEEDED to watch it. Found each season from 1-13 available on Netflix. Cut to a week and a half later, I had binged the show in any ounce of free time I had during the school week. I only spoke in RvB quotes to the annoyance to all the people on my floor. I still remember being in my dark dorm room, past midnight, both of my roommates well asleep, my room only being illuminated by my screen because I needed to see how season 13 ended. The episode ends, screen cuts to black and I’m legit crying as the credit music begins to play. It’s legit one of my favorite memories regarding experiencing a work of media. The show never really reached that peak for me in the later seasons, but seeing the current state of the show now just saddens me, but you said it best that good things have to come to end sometimes.

It’s sad that we will never get a “this is truly the final season” with RvB. Sure there was a lot of good places to end the series (end of season 10, end of season 13 for example), but those was never a season that was actually marketed as the grand finale to RvB. It just sucks that it’s legacy ends with a season like 18. And there is truly no going back even if they wanted to try and go back to make a finale trilogy now that Burnie Burns has left RT, and Joel Heyman (the VA for Caboose) was fired from RT and left on bad terms. Those are two crucial characters who couldn’t come back for any future seasons, and if they wanted to truly do a bookend season, or trilogy of seasons to end 20+ years of RvB, they couldn’t even really do it now without those OG characters (or they could, but it’d be lacking for it). This is truly an example of a good show that was beaten into the ground until it died.

Yeah, I feel like Red vs. Blue is seasons 1-10. I feel like those seasons best embody what rvb is about and what makes it great. The Chorus trilogy is a great series, but it doesn't feel like a direct continuation, like a natural consequence of the events before it, so I wouldn't lump it in with the rest of rvb proper. Rooster Teeth as a company always felt iffy for me. I was too young when RvB was coming out to adopt its style of humour, and when I was old enough, the company had turned me off due to other ventures. It wasn't even RWBY that did it for me (Though I still dislike that show a lot) but it was ScrewAttack. I swear, every RoosterTeeth character that was in a Death Battle won - even in cases where they shouldn't - and you can clearly tell that they tried pushing it as hard as they can. If you don’t believe me you can look it up on the RvB wiki. And in one of the alternate endings for episode 100, donut marries a girl named Tiffany and they have 12 children. In season 17 he realizes what he’s been saying all this time we’re gay innunedos and he didn’t mean them, and one of Donut’s most well known quotes is choosing between “a threesome with cheerleaders” which he mentions in season 4, as well as DONUT: THE MUSICAL you can also confirm this from the RvB wiki.

Honestly I think that after season 14 they should've just started with a new group as the focus and named it something else or something Could've been something better and new than what we got in these new seasons and they wouldn't have been so constrained by previous lore. Then again the question is if the writers could actually write a good one

I think in season 15 they should have focused way more on dylan and never even introduce the actual reds and blues at all, but rather have her taking the blues and reds into her own hands, and then completely remove the previous character all together in later seasons. this would have been a great transition to a new cast as it incorporates the old ones, introduces the new ones, all the while not ruining the finale of season 13. it would have been the perfect way to continue the series, and would have likely extended the lifetime of it

Great breakdown, really did everything overall and I love watching stuff like this cause it makes me realice once again how far RvB has come and evolved and no matter if at some points it wasn't as good or just didn't meet to hype of seasons before it's amazing how much it changed over time and how the original non action packed goofy real small cast show developed the characters, their backstories, the worlds and eventually it wasn't just this Halo based unkown show and had become it's own thing with it's separate fanbase. They did great job and I hope they still can if they shall continue. Video was real good, keep it up, shall the good old freelancer days stay in our memories.

That's probably because they didn't need to base an entire season around time travel. It was really just a handful of episodes with Church doing minor things. Meanwhile you had the main cast on the other end just kind of say "Hey, we're in the future now!" and that was kind of it. S16 had the entire cast and plot revolve around time travel. Makes sense that it got a bit messy.

Season 14! The Locus and Felix episodes are amazing! I wish they would have done like a full series in the art style. It being just focused on them. But as for what you said about Everything else. I agree with and is where I stand as well.
