As someone who occupied many sub-cultural spaces in my teens and early twenties, one of which was antisjw-ism, I think a lot of the hostility stemmed from the sense that the cultural 'rules' were being unfairly broken. Pre-2012 internet culture demanded a universal surrender of the right to be offended. That's actually a bad thing to demand, considering many things are genuinely offensive, but it is, in a perverse sense, fair. Add onto that the blunt reality that the cultural staples of antisjw-ism (video games and imageboards, for instance) were effectively safe-spaces for struggling young men, safe-spaces that were then perceived as being violated by 'feminists' and 'sjws' and I think a lot of the apparently irrational anger makes sense.

When it comes to questioning the validity of SFRJ, I know there was some questioning of it back in the day, but also I feel like the dramatic nature of it meant everyone was having too much fun to care if it was fake or not. If anything I remember there was more side discourse about if using the phrase "Justice for Mod Silver" was racist or not for making light of actual racism. Tumblr at its finest! I do fondly remember watching this all unfold and keeping up to date with my friends in skype.

GOD I remember watching this saga go down in real time 😭 I was 17 in sixthform at the time and my friends and I had two empty lessons either side of lunch on the day it all kicked off so we sat in the cafeteria reading the posts out to each other, we treated the blog like a daily newspaper for the rest of that week 😂 We were also obsessed with reading My Immortal and a bunch of other cringe Harry Potter and Twilight fics, as well as cringewatching Onision, Cool Cat, John Sakars, etc, and streaming The Room.
