I'm a Syriac (or Syriani, which is not the same as Syrian!) Orthodox Christian from Mosul (ancient Nineveh), Iraq, although my parents were born and grew up in Baghdad. Syriacs are related to Assyrians, all three of us with the Chaldeans speak the Syriac language (a form af Aramaic), many of my friends speak it, though my great-grandparents didn't teach it to my grandparents and parents, so Arabic became our 1st language. My parents came to Europe 30 years ago. The last of my relatives left Iraq 10 years ago. I think it's sad that the number of indigenous non-Muslim people in the Middle East are decreasing… :(

no there is a difference between and Assyrian and Syriac Aramaic is an old Syrian language and Syriac is a form of it so how are Syriacs related to Assyrians ?
@John-je1if7 жыл бұрын
Aramaic is not a "Syrian" language. I think you mean Aramaic came from the area that is modern Syria. Syriac is a dialect of Aramaic, it's basically Aramaic mixed with a lot of Akkadian words. This website shows the link between Syriac (the modern assyrian languge) and akkadian; www.aina.org/articles/akkadianwords.pdf Also, Syriacs and Assyrians are exactly the same people. Syriac is just another name for Assyrians. Assyrians are divided up into 3 main churches: Assyrian Church of East, Chaldean Catholic Church, and Syriac Orthodox Church. These are all called "Syriac" churches because they have Syriac as their liturgical language and the members of these churches are "Syriac" which literally means Assyrian.

Assyrians were animals and weren't civilized, Cyrus the Great of Persia is a great example of how just a powerful man can still be and retain his integrity. Alot of historians state that he was probably the only emeperor/King to truely deserve the "Great" title. Created the first charter or rights and freedom, abolishrd slavery, accepted all religions abd cultures and never comitted genocide, citiens paid tax, sounds like modern times. Persians/Iranians were far ahead of their time.
@ian6796 Жыл бұрын
Cyrus never abolished slavery, he just allowed the deported populations under neo-babylonian rule to go back to their homelands, the persians did have slaves too. The cyrus cylinder is not a charter of rights and most of his image of "perfect and just ruler" may have been self-made propaganda, you don't get to conquer an empire through "integrity" and being a boyscout. But yeah, he was far better than the assyrians.

Kurdistan Ball Kurds are a mix of different Iranian people like the Sarmates, the Medes, the scythes... But Kurds are not the heirs of Medes , they are related but not the same , like the Gauls with French people , and moreover why do you wish the destruction of Assyrians ? They couldn't persisted Kurds ( Kurdish nation didn't exist at this time )
@ezidikurd7416 жыл бұрын
Of course we are not the exact same. But Kurds are the direct continuation of the Medes where the majority of our Iranian DNA comes from. We are also related to the Hurrians and Hittites. Kurdish and Assyrian hate started when they attacked Medians and tried to kill all of us. Remember when I said Kurds are the continuation of the MEdes? The Assyrian hate has also carried over. I do not wish for their destruction but they should accept that their statehood is over and there is no possible way for Assyrian statehood
@phil33926 жыл бұрын
Kurdistan Ball everyone has the right for a statehood , and in your place I would reconciliate because what they did to you and what you did to them are less horrible than what the Turks and the Arabs have done to both of you. United ( allied) you would be way more powerful in all the meanings of the terms. Don't use hate to divide all the autochtonous people before turning Arabic invasions. This what I think as a Greek , I hope you will both succeed in your goals.
@ezidikurd7416 жыл бұрын
Philippe Gromitsaris I personally have nothing against Assyrians. It is just that they are so spread out. Where would an Assyria be? If we gave them every city they inhabit than they will be the minority in their own country and most likely oppress the majority.
