The Rise and Fall of the Krays - Britain's Most Notorious Gangsters | History Documentary
This film tells the definitive story of Britain’s most notorious criminals who, in just ten years, acquired a chilling aura of fear through extreme violence, unparalleled in Britain’s underworld. Their legend continues to be popular years on, in a tale of ruthless criminals who led a glamorous existence. They ran rackets, owned bars and casinos and mixed with celebrities. They were at their height of their criminal empire during the sixties; a post war hedonistic mix when style, power, sex, money and class all collided. Despite being glamorised by some, this documentary reveals the truth about the Kray’s, showing them as crude thugs with a streak of depression and madness, surviving only on a profession of violence, extortion and small time criminal activities.

It shows a clip at the beginning of a model named Maureen Flanagan. This must have been taken in the late 60’s. I just watched an interview with her talking about the Kray’s. She has lots of knowledge of the Krays to share.

In the early 60's I started my first job in a bank in East London. Every Thursday a large gentleman came in with two large suitcases. He was let into the safe deposit room unaccompanied, and a few minutes late came out and left. I was told that he was depositing Krays money and was the only person ever let into that room by himself.

@Stickle Back I disagree I think rise and fall tells the best story but it's not a good film. One thing that bugs me is it shows the Krays habitually carrying guns in shoulder holsters the twins had access to guns but usually kept them stashed away until needed. They knew they were under almost constant surveillance and the police would love to have caught in possession of loaded guns

I would say this is about 20 years old, maybe a bit more. The people interviewed still look pretty young, especially compared to the interviews I’ve seen recently. In fact probably 30 years or so because Charlie went to prison in 1997 or around that time. Early 90’s??

I was meant to say something for Reggie. In his final hospital interview he had worn the pink shirt in support of the youth of today and his brother Ronnie to symbolise that he believed people should be permitted to be whatever they are whether hetero or homosexual and that it made nobody less of a man. He wanted the youth of the day to take the opportunities open to them via education that his era just didn't have. He wanted people to know that he did believe in love and that in the end materialistic things held no comfort when there was nobody left. You have to understand this was Reggie agreeing to wear pink back in the day. Now some may dispute their ways of charity but he really did want to help and free people to be themselves . He knew due to the boxing and reputation he had he could help. People shouldn't demean that it was a really kind gesture on his part. Whatever happened during his lifetime I love Reggie for doing this , he saw the torment of his brother which could result in violence. Thank you for caring Reggie.

I agree that the sentence was too long .. I think they were more violent than necessary but they attacked crooks.. they didn't attack anyone vulnerable... And neither did they ever bully anyone vulnerable!! They never mugged old people.. They were never cruel to homeless people.. they never harmed animals.. so if you really put it into perspective.. there are people far worse than them!!

Ah, i miss the days when London was London and not a black face in sight. Back when it really was a great country, and the England team didn't look like they could qualify for the African Cup of Nations. We're second-class citizens in our own country and we'll never get it back!

@@michaelharrison3602 that's amazing some of your ancestors may have gone to Shakespeare plays first time round. What lines of work were they in? My father traced are family back to the 17th Century. We are Northerners and predominantly worked in cotton mills and later as shop keepers.
