There's a thing that I would like people to understand about ROH, especially the first years of ROH, because I think many people have this misconception that because ROH focused on pro-wrestling and in-ring performances, it lacked stories and characters and proper feuds. And this couldn't be more false. Why do people remember Miseria Cantare? Because they remember ROH's CM Punk and holy hell ROH's CM Punk was *ALL ABOUT* character work, stories and personal feuds. His bout with Raven was all about CM Punk turning heel and enstablishing himself as the outcast, the man who stood against Raven because he represented the failures of modern society to Punk. The man who had all the opportunities and flashed it down the toilets because of his demons, because of alcohol, drugs, vices. AND of course, Raven remembered Punk of his father, who also had alcohol issues, one of the reasons of Punk being straightedge. Is this not a story? It wasn't just matches, it was promos, and brawls and incredible moments like Tommy Dreamer coming out to save Raven and them pouring alcohol in Punk's mouth, forcing him to taste alcohol. Or Punk tying Raven to an big X, like Raven tied Sandman to a cross in ECW. The fact itself that Punk beat Raven in almost every match they had, pinned him multiple times, kinda like Raven used to do with Dreamer. And this was just one of Punk's personal intense feud. Miseria Cantare was integral part of the character too, he would come in with this epic theme song that fit Punk's character like few could. "Love your hate, your faith lost, you are now one of us". The ones like Punk, the disenchanted, the disillusioned, the outcasts. ROH had TONS of other personal feuds and not all of them were just about wrestling and winning matches, there were a lot of feuds revolving around characters, clash of personalities, hatred, love, betrayal. And ROH was incredibly good a creative long narrative arcs, more often than not with very satisfying endings. ROH was a professional wrestling company sure, but pro-wrestling IS entertainment, and ROH was very entertaining in its best years. The two things are not as mutually exclusive as WWE wants people to believe.

Sadly, with no TV deal and me being a near shut-in at the time, I had no opportunity to get exposure to RoH. My first time seeing Ring Of Honor was when WTVZ local 33 started playing their program in 2012 or 13. It was so refreshing after over a decade of wwe and ECWWE (ugh!). Oh, and tna. To me, it felt like the vibe of the old school ECW at the time. Davey Richards, Kevin Steen (when he got back from his "suspension"), Jay Lethal, the Briscoes and so many more. It captured just enough of that ECW spirit to scratch that itch.
@vids20022 жыл бұрын
It is crazy how some people never got to see some of the greatest moments in RoH. Hopefully this helps them find out about it and seek out some matches (and hopefully the library is on some type of service soon). I wish RoH for years had the backing of a larger promotion that let them stay them but help them thrive. I feel if they had a bigger tv deal, they could have competed with TNA back in it's good days

I told him CM Punk was fighting, and we we're both CM Punk marks because of his legendary Summer of Punk in WWE and we we're both a bit anti-Samoa Joe at the time, but goddamn did he ever change out minds that night back in 2011.

The last time I watched an ROH match this same guy kept coming out and was in three different storylines. All I remember was that he dressed like a complete need and he wore glasses with tape in the middle of them. He didn't seem like someone who would be a wrestler. It was nothing like I ever saw in ROH before and I didn't like it. It sort of reminded me of when ECW used to bring dolls in the ring as part of a faction. It was all very strange just as was ROH the last time I saw it. Don't get me wrong I know ROH produced many great wrestlers. I know Rollins and Cesaro were among many who wrestled there.

Since Tempest is Canadian, I'd like to point out that in the beginning days of RoH, and the model they used, gave a rebirth of Indie (some say Backyard) Wrestling in Eastern Canada. Canada has a history of wrestling, but lacked the "Indie circuit" that the USA has. Most were located in Western Canada due to the popularity of Calgary's famous family. The RoH model and popularity inspired Eastern Canada to step up. While Toronto was famous for Sully's Gym, which pumped out Talent such as Edge and Christian and Trish Stratus, not many were able to go that route due to costs, Edge himself won free training through an essay contest. Similar to RoH, once these little feds started making money from ticket sales and DVD sales, they imported more talent to attract more fans to shows... Some even went of to WWE afterwards such as The Highlanders who cut their teeth in GLCW, PWA and NSPW for example... Probably not the best example due to their short tenure, but an example I'm personally familiar with. Imagine for a moment having a work visa to do wrestling shows, but due to the small 'circuit" barely making enough to survive on, not to mention the lack of schools to train at. Like RoH, there have been ups and downs, but compared to the time when Edge and Christian started in the 90's there are quite a few more opportunities and avenues to wrestle and train. Heck, Serena Deeb, had a seminar and show at "Santino Marella's" Kombat Arts on the weekend of April 9th. Why is this so long and why did I write it? Think of it as a "Love letter" to Tempest and those at PartsFUNknown for their love of wrestling and RoH.

Some of these comments have me wondering if they are only interested in RoH now because Tony Khan owes it. I wonder if these eyes would be on it or even this video would be made if it wasnt bought by Tiny Khan. Because before this, most exact those that seeked, went to, or watched it on tv card about it. Before then, unless it was their big yearly ppv, some got injured, or someone left, it got the NJPW and TNA/Impact treatment, left out of the news and review cycle
