Mid-00's Metalcore Kid here! Can confirm there was this weird alliance/association between us younger 'core kids and the neon pop punk kids, probably because we had to borrow each others' hair straighteners. Or maybe it was cos I was in Canada and by virtue of isolation and smaller fanbases there felt like less of a divide here in those scenes, like you'd probably see the same kids at a Motionless In White show that you'd see at Forever The Sickest Kids show. It was pretty hilarious come to think about it. Personally I was never a huge Attack Attack! fan (and I did think the crab-core joke was hilarious) but I can't deny that they were surprisingly influential and inspirational to many bands that came after. Plus, we got Beartooth later on and that ain't no bad thing neither.

Man we really don't get shitty quality demos and 240p videos on a bands recording journey like we used to. This brings me back to my old band when we would record shitty stuff and play in local shows with other metalcore, posthardcore bands. I can undoubtedly say that the 2008-2012 scene era was definitely a time to be alive.

I know I keep saying this, but it literally feels just like yesterday that I was some angsty teen that thought this "underground" movement would never die. Present day, my 50+ year old parents listen to BMTH and ADTR and now I don't feel so much like the edgelord I used to think I was. Still amazing music that I'm so glad I was around for the original days of. Attack Attack might catch a lot of flak, but they really helped to push several genres forward.

I've seen them twice on "The 10 Years In The Black Tour" and then on their "Treehouse Tour" headliner the following year where they played their set for over an hour. It was probably one of the best concerts I've ever seen in person and the presentation with the strobe lights and LEDs/glitchy light effects were so worth it alone. I still wish Zach Johnson would have been screaming because it would have been a crazy a*s show but both shows were still fun with Devin Oliver on all vocals regardless. I almost died in the moshpit the 2nd time I saw them because it was so effing massive and the venue was so small and crammed in. Definitely worth it though!!!!

I was in my late teens/early 20s during the heyday of Attack Attack. I was generally more into deathcore and grindcore kinda stuff back then, but as a synthesizer nerd and lover of electronic music I always had love for them. I actually played synths in a couple vaguely crabcore-ish local bands around 2010 and I’m not gonna lie and say I didn’t rock the “jog-in-place-with-the-Microkorg” stage moves because of Caleb in the Stick Stickly video, haha.

But this style has quickly become one of my favorites, with Woe, is Me and Attack Attack! become some of my favorite bands that get almost weekly listens. Man, my first scene year was in 09 and I LOVED this band (still do). Just pure entertainment and it's so cool to see them basically being considered as scene icons when they were initially so hated. "Stick Stickly" is legit an ICONIC song.

Just found your channel and I’m obsessed. You’re bringing back so many memories from my teen years. 2008-2009 is when I discovered heavier music. I was more of a FOB and PATD kinda girl. The good old days! I can’t believe how many of the band members from back then are now canceled for being awful men. It was clearly dangerous for young girls to be around them.

Awesome video. Very well-researched. This was one of my favorite bands in high school. Healthy Normal and Dr. Shavargo Demos were so dope. Wish Healthy Normal made it to an album, but it would've lost a lot of that grit and emotion that made it special.

It’s truly wild how I’ve known the “Crabcore” meme and those stills since the time this happened, but never knew it was AA

Wish AA and OM&M had more of a beef. The fact that they kicked him out and he formed a more famous band is funny to me

I remember being hooked by the intro of stick sickly then turned off by the auto tune vocals. So i never paid attention to the band until last year, when i was going on a youtube nostalgia trip. I heard the song, was addicted to it instantly, now i consider the album to be one of my favorites of all time!!

Nice video brother really brings me back… I remember clearly thinking like you say about metal core needing to be only heavy- but I don’t think it’s just that. Discovering the waterfront, they’re only chasing safety, from autumn to ashes, chiodos, downtown battle mountain- those were all GREAT albums that used clean vocals wonderfully but still appealed to the hardcore/metal ore “bearded” crowed… at least me anyways. There was something distinguishing and “un-cool” about the later stuff that you’re talking about like attack attack with the “MySpace pop” neon polka dot and cute little dinosaurs bullshit aesthetic whereas the earlier stuff still preserved it’s darker more serious appeal, whether it was clean vocals or not… and I think that was the real dividing line between the two groups were talking about here lol… so funny how these groups of teenagers (myself included) all looked exactly the same with swoopy hair, snake bites and tight pants, but at the same time we’re so picky and particular about which bands they liked or didn’t… it was a very thin and particular line between what was cool and good vs too cutesy and “gay”… ya can’t really explain it- you had to be there… if ya know, ya know. Lol Just my 2c be easy bro and keep up the content I love watching ur videos

Austin Carlile is practically famous now to the point where if you hear or see the name, you know exactly who he is.

Absolutely love these videos. I was a big Attack Attack fan back in 08 and 09. I was in the 16 and 17 range then. In my opinion Attack Attack is just legendary and I still listen to alot of their music now. Pretty interesting that I was introduced to metal music by way of groups like mendeed and Abigail Williams but as soon as I heard Attack Attack I thought they were an incredibly good band. All hail the 🦀!
