Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu was born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1949.
In 1963, the Netanyahus moved to the United States after Benzion, his father, accepted an academic post in Pennsylvania. The young Netanyahu attended Cheltenham High School, located in what was then a Jewish enclave in the suburbs of Philadelphia.
Eventually, just days before his high school graduation ceremony, Netanyahu returned to Israel to serve in the IDF, or Israeli Defense Forces.
And Bibi thrived in the military.
Netanyahu would go back and forth between the US and Israel for some years after.
His political career started to take off around 1982. A family friend of the Netanyahus, Moshe Arens, was named the Israeli ambassador to the United States.
And just like that… Benjamin Netanyahu went from furniture company to foreign affairs….
He was asked to be Arens’ deputy at the Israeli embassy in Washington D.C.
Netanyahu’s American accent set him apart and made him an ideal voice of the Israeli government on American television. Bibi eventually went on to become Israel prime minister.
In February 2019, Israel’s Attorney General announced his intention to indict Netanyahu on bribery and fraud charges. But Netanyahu won his most recent election despite the three separate corruption cases against him, making this his fifth term as the Israeli prime minister.
Benjamin Netanyahu has spent decades in the public eye, and has rarely needed to compromise to achieve his political goals.But this started to change in the run-up to the last election, when corruption charges threatened his political position.So, who really is Netanyahu and how did he get his start? In order to better understand Israel's politics and Benjamin Netanyahu's continuous hold at the prime minister seat, it's worth mentioning that Israel's parliamentary system is very different than that of the USA. While the US has a two party system, Israel has a system of coalition made of up representative parties. There are 120 seats (mandates) in the Knesset (parliament) and every party receives a number of seats in accordance to the votes they receive in the elections (with a threshold of 3.25% of the votes in order to enter the parliament). In the 2019 elections there was a record high number of 42 parties participating. Eventually, 11 parties received enough votes to pass the threshold to earn parliamentary mandates. The Likud party earned 35 mandates, which means only 29% of the votes. Their main opposition, the centrist Blue and White party, also earned 35 mandates. Eventually the prime minister will have to create a coalition of parties to form a majority in the parliament, which consists of at least 61 mandates. The parties will then go to the president, who is the head of state, and recommend who they think should form the new government. As it stands, the majority of mandates currently recommend Netanyahu. This is mostly because Israel's population is leaning right, and becoming more religious and more conservative, but not *necessarily* more supportive of Netanyahu.

The settlements in the west bank are not illegal under international law by any means. Israel has both legal claim (as a part of the mandate for Palestine which was designated to the establishment of a Jewish state and included those areas and the Oslo accords which officially recognize the civil right of Israel to govern this area partially) and moral claim (land gained by a defensive war) over that land. For example, there was the same mandate system in Iraq - the British mandate for Mesopotamia - mandatory Iraq. Saddam Hussein thought back in 1990 that this mandate has no legal rights and he invaded Kuwait under various claims, but no one supported him and backed his claims about the illegality of the mandate which formed his country and many other countries like Kuwait which he invaded to and like Syria for instance, where the trustee was the French mandate to Syria and Lebanon. The Syrians have territorial claims in Lebanon up until today, so what? The world still respects these border lines since they were set as a part of international agreements and formed most of the countries which we know today in that area including Israel in mandatory Palestine (which included back in 1920 the areas of Judea and Samaria and Canada also signed it). I can continue discovering you a lot of other interesting facts you didn't know, regarding the legal case of Israel and it's justified claims to that land but I'd rather you to look for yourself, after all, you claim to be interested in knowledge and facts.
