The Rise of Washington Huskies Football

After a winless season back in 2008, the Washington Huskies football team had a lot of soul searching to do. A team with no identity and no Head Coach needed to find a face and leader fast to help rebuild the school and take them back to the top. Now fast forward a decade, and Washington has done just that, as their football is having one of their most successful streches ever. So how exactly did it happen? In today's video, we'll be looking at the Rise of Washington Huskies Football.

As a die hard Husky fan that grew up watching Don James coached teams dominate the Pac-10 & whoever else that was unfortunate enough to have to play them....To the Lambright coached teams that were still amazingly talented & tough...Making it through the fabricated violation years....To even "Slicky Neweasel's" first couple of years....You grew to expect dominance with the Huskies at all times....Therefore, their precipitous fall from grace from 2004-2008, was incredibly difficult to endure..... The rise of the Oregon program (little brother).... Just added salt to the wound.... Sarkisian brought them back to respectability, but could never get us over the hump against UO, Stanford, etc...& bolted when sunny USC came calling....Peterson was able to come in & instill his consistency that he always brings....While we may have come up short in our biggest bowl games during his brief tenure, we were at least good enough to play in them, and could have won most of them, (if the ball would have bounced a different way).... I am extremely grateful for his raising of the expectations that he brought, the snapping of the Oregon curse, and just for bringing UW back to the point where none of their opponents can honestly look forward to playing them!!! Now the Jimmy Lake era begins....I believe that this guy is not only going to get us back into the CFP, but will WIN the BIG ones...As he just exudes extreme confidence, with a brilliant mind & unrivalled desire to WIN...!!!! We'll find that out (hopefully) when the Michigan Wolverines come to town (hopefully) in early September....If the fake plannedemic, Corona-hoax doesn't spoil it.....Go Dawgs!!!! WOOF!!!!

Washington has always been a prestigious university it's the lack of banners which is a problem when you underachieve or lose games you shouldn't peterson was a good coach I wish les miles got the job I think he could be excellent with the right resources I think it's more of a rebirth for Washington

UW needs to take a Miami approach and build a fence around Washington. To give some perspective, the Pittsburgh Steelers have Zach Banner and David De Castro as offensive lineman. Both of those dudes are from Seattle, but out of high school, Banner chose USC and DeCastro chose Stanford. OL Josh Grant also chose Stanford. They need to keep the big lineman home. Another guy was Jacob Eason, who went to UGA, only to leave and return home to UW, but in the process sacrificed two years of playing in his prime. Jimmy Lake has the tools to build on the recent success, but recruiting in-state will be a big part of that. Eastside Catholic (Sammamish, WA) has 3 or 4 big name recruits, but they are looking at National Championship caliber schools to attend.

UW's 2018-2020 recruiting classes were some of the best ever. Jimmy Lake is going to have some very good teams his first few years. UW has the most blue chip recruits on its roster right now. More than Oregon & USC. Check Bud Elliot's blue chip ratio.

Funny thing was for me was in 2015 I moved to Seattle to serve a mission and I lived just around the corner from red square near UW’s campus and I ran into 10 of the football players and asked them what they were going to accomplish that season and they all said at the same time “make the playoffs”. I laughed and said UW always sucks and said the Gators were going to make it. Then 3 months later they made the playoffs and later I ran into some of the same guys and they noticed me and started grinning and laughing at me and they said “How bout them Gators and WE TOLD YOU” haha I was humbled and embarrassed.

UW and Tennessee were the “trendy” pics in 2016. Hell i’m a lifelong Dawg fan and I was skeptical but the big thing was John Ross came back from injury a totally different player. Dante Pettis was lightly heralded coming out of HS. Our Defense was hungry overachievers but no real depth. Every injury hurt. It’s still on of my favorite teams. The talent on today’s roster is significantly better they just need to play with heart. No one expects much from them because they see the 5 losses last year and assume the team doesn’t have talent. We’re interested in seeing how Jimmy Lake molds this team in his vision.

UW crushed Florida in a bowl game in 1989. Started the best 3 years in school history. 30-2 in next 32 games. The 91 team was one of the best ever. The 90 team got upset late in the year & cost them the 90 NC. Florida was elite in the entire 90s tho.

Great video. But quick note/correction: UW ran completely different schemes (shifting to a 2-4-5 nickel-base defense for example) transitioning from Sark -> Petersen and the culture shift was just about as substantial as possible. So I wouldn’t call it a “smooth transition” from those 2 coaches
