Really strange, I just started reading your book today. The interesting thing is that people will give you a lot of resistance for abandoning the nice persona. They want you to return to your former self, but not for your interest, but for their own interest. The nice person, they have been accustomed to, is more predictable than the new and powerful version of your self. The resistance, I am encountering, is a sign that I am on my right path. Keep going guys !

OMG this resonates with me so much. I did this and the result ruined the relationship with the love of my life for stupid reasons. Those stories you speak of that we tell ourselves to keep us complacent and the bottle of denied emotions exploding like a shaken soda on a hot summer day... it is very real, very damaging, and no way to live. I am grateful her and I are talking again, being open and honest sharing the pain instead of running from it, and we may have another chance to make it right. I have learned my lesson and know what I need to do. It is a long hard road, but so worth the bumps and scrapes we will get while traveling it, they make us stronger and define who we really are. Thank you Aziz, you are a light in this dark place.

Well did I speak out night before last....... My daughter was abducted at age 14 by her aunts, my deceased wife's sisters and they have essentially phased me out of her life. Well I spoke out and told them exactly how I feel about what they did and essentially admonishing them and encouraged them to send my daughter back or else. I'm waiting for the responses.

I tried to think about what my rules were and I guess speaking up goes against the rule that if I do I’ve something wrong. That I should not have done that. So I tend to get really hard on myself.

Genuine queation -What if it’s in a situation where if you speak up it will have VERY serious repercussions. Like say you’re severely I’ll/disabled and financially dependent on toxic family for home/ food. You have to bite your tongue bc if u speak up u will be out on the streets. U have already used all state/ federal resources ebt Medicaid and waiting list for section 8 housing but ur bedbound and too sick to work, lost friends due to illness and all u have is that toxic family member helping u. Yea u appreciate it but boundaries being crossed can’t be addressed bc u will be homeless and way worse off. How do u handle that. Do u bite ur tongue? It becomes a matter of survival when ur that I’ll. I’m asking cuz I’m in this situation and I know holding in emotions is making me worse. I’ve tried speaking up walking away in past didn’t end well bc of my severity of illness
