Just the fact that they HAVE Drift, Rally, and Rock Crawling modes shows that they have driving enthusiasts in mind. This is really good and should drive sales. I don't think Tesla was nearly as overall pro-active towards the enthusiast market early on.

It isn't a work truck so they really do need to differentiate themselves with the play modes. Just like rally heritage helps with Subaru sales even though most never do more than fire roads and slow softroading.

Great point. Maybe Rivian's smart work will be an incentive for Tesla to include track mode controls in all Cybertrucks, like next year, compared to track mode torque control being held back in Models 3 and Y. Same goes for the issue of higher power auxiliary AC power outlets.

@@CrumResearch Exactly, Crum, you are correct. Since so much of this traction control stuff is software based, I would think it would be easy to give you a twisty knob with 5 programable choices on ANY trim level. Pavement, Tow, Snow, Mud, Rally could be the default choices, but you could touchscreen many more options to suit your current driving style/situation. Then perhaps a WRC team plays with it and comes up with a download that you can buy economically. All of the vehicles' wiring harnesses should have capability of the high-power auxiliary outlets, which could be dealer or customer installed later if not standard on that model.

I just wanted to ask something not you but since your post is on top of this comment section they (TFL) will see this question faster... Since in this test are plenty of Rivian guys (chef engineer, workers & developers) i was wondering if those modes (drift, rally, baja, rock-crawl).. are available for the lower configuration since i know that Rivian can have only 2 electric motors instead of all 4 electric motors and smaller battery size in lower basic trims with a lower price.. because if the car software has all those features in lower trims is really nice.. instead of buying top trim fully loaded versions..

Great video! It really shows what 4 motor torque vectoring can do. The level of control shown in this video would be impossible for even the most capable ICE or two motor electric off road truck to match.

I disagree. It IS hard to get a sense of speed, grip, and perspective from this video, but many regular 4WD/AWD systems are relatively easy to drive in such conditions. I've had six Subaru AWDs from 1993-2022 and I believe I would have gotten similar results, albeit at a slower speed due to less power (130-173HP). Even so, the Rivian truck looks fun to me!

Torque vectoring puts cars in a whole other category. Especially in road racing. I don't see it making a huge difference in dirt because your going to be spinning and sliding regardless of how advanced your traction control is. And you want to be able to spin and slide a little bit.

Crab-Walk is a Hummer EV feature, Hummer Ev has the 4 wheel steering option and depending on the mode selected the rear wheels turn just like front or opposite.. Rivian has the "tank turn" feature when when the truck is doing dognuts just like a tank on the spot..

As an EV truck, the R1T is by far the best Truck when it comes to EV. Ford is no where close to it when it comes to over all performances. With all that said, towing, distance traveled, battery 🔋 longevity, off-road capabilities and so on. The price is great for one stop shop. No like ford you have three option but the price goes up for each battery options. I still like gas, over EV, or what they called Dino 🦖 killer, pollution didn’t killed the Dino. It was natural disaster.

I'm not sure you understand what fossil fuels are. You're right in thinking they didn't kill dinosaurs, they're called fossil fuels because they are the fossils. They're what's left behind when the bodies of all those critters that died millions of years ago decomposed at the bottom of oceans or under layers of silt with little oxygen but plenty of pressure and heat. So when we burn fossil fuels in our car, power station, plane, truck, train, boat, stove or heater, we are burning fossils.

Okay, let’s set aside all of the other things this truck does better than other trucks to address your comment. There are two types of towing: around town, and long haul. You are right about the Rivian being impractical for long distance towing. But you are ignoring the fact that many people only need to tow around town (like landscapers pulling equipment, or getting a piece of equipment/tractor/vehicle to shop for repair/maintenance, etc). And this latter category, the Rivian does better than ICE vehicles (better power and stability). And it just takes 20 seconds to plug it in at home in the evenings. But go ahead and focus on the one category where this vehicle lags instead of all the other categories where it dominates ICE.
