The luxurious RMS Republic II was an ocean liner sent on the Liverpool to Boston route despite being worth far more than either of those cities. Her sinking brought widespread media attention and salvage efforts on her wreck have resulted in view gains and one bad documentary on the "History" Channel. Remember, I'm an idiot with a microphone, not an expert, so take everything with a grain of salt.

As a Scot I can confirm that literally everyone on earth already knew this to be true. Also, Italian men don't leave their mother's womb until 26. This is known.

Republic was built for the Dominion Line as the Columbus. It was smaller than the big 4 as well as White Stars Arabic which was taken over from ATL(maybe Arabic was margianlly smaller and Columbus was a little longer they were virtually same size) and was built as the Minnewaska. It was one of the bigger ships in the IMM family for sure but I don't know where the whole "the most luxurious White Star Liner in it's time was reserved for making trips to Boston from Liverpool" thing comes from.
@giovannirastrelli9821

It’s an unfounded claim based on an unsourced Wikipedia paragraph. She was a pretty average ship for her time.
@commodorezero

@@giovannirastrelli9821 She was certainly above average. Top 10 biggest liner for sure (not counting but 15k in the 1900-1905 period was huge). Notable vessel don't get me wrong just not the "most luxurious White Star Liner in it's time". The Big 4 and Oceanic are big names in the ocean liner world he should know this.

I think the ice berg that sank the Titanic was also named Florida, as was the meteorite that killed the dinosaurs, the street Franz Ferdinand was shot on, Hitlers middle name, Stalins Mother in laws cats name, and Liz Truss’s tinder password. Ahhhh Florida.

A great feat for the Baltic though. She not only took aboard the Republic’s and Florida’s passengers, but also at least some of Republic’s mail, according to Mark Chirnside’s book about the Big Four.

Internal documentation of the New York US Attorney's Office, which handled the resulting Harter Act litigation, states clearly that the mail was lost. The "mail removal" was designed for public consumption to reduce interest in the recovery of valuable Registered Mail.

Everything that went right with the evacuation and rescue of the Republic went completely off the rails with Titanic just three years later. If anything, the successful rescue operation of Republic’a passengers and crew helped doom Titanic because it was taken for granted the same scenario would play out whenever a large ocean liner would be in distress.

Yes the R.M.S. Republic did indeed send out a CQD distress single….BUT you failed to mention that she was the first ship to send out an SOS. This has been attributed to the Titanic which was not the first ship to send out an SOS but the Republic did.

It wasn't even the first CQD signal, CQD was the original telegraph distress call. C meaning Calling Q meaning Everyone D meaning distress. He goofed it and I think he meant to say world's first SOS, even though SOS was kind of already in use by that point.
