Thanks for making this insightful film. I have been using it as a teaching tool for the last few years as a comparison with Big Fat Gypsy Weddingsto show how the mainstream media represents minority groups negatively and as a form of entertainment. I believe your film has had significant impact in challenging the way many of my students think about the gypsy traveller community.

Just came across this Documentary I'm from Travellers on my Mums side my Great Grandad and Grandad became settled my Grandad was a General Dealer and he had a relative who was a bare knuckle fighter, for some reason we became separated from the travelling community I know I've got relatives on a site in Northamptonshire but I don't know how to find them, lastly my Grandad taught me some of their language I feel fortunate to have Romany in my blood but I'm longing to meet my lost relatives.

I'm an English gypsy and my family didn't raise us no way no how like that gypsy wedding show that show is a damn disgrace to any Gypsy so anybody that watches that and thinks that's the way we are there's something wrong with you they need to take that damn show off the TV

They should show real traveller culture where your boys rip off vulnerable pensioners for money they can't afford or bully ordinary people into getting their own way. The only reason you travel rather than settling is because it makes your trade easier and your trade is just crime and scams and moving around makes you harder to trace. You know it and so do most people but you'll cry like children and say everyone's picking on you.

Donnylass71 1 second ago The 3rd lad talking Rocky Smith is from a lovely family, went to school from a early age. He's actually a very nice, well mannered lad. People are so judgemental when they hear the words "gypsy's & travellers", but there's good & bad in everyone, we all make mistakes. lots of none-travellers commit crimes and go to jail too but we never hear people screaming about them. If people took the time to get to know them, and befriend one, then you have a friend for life.

I've had enough first hand experience with travellers to know to avoid them at all costs. It's not one or two bad apples it's an entire society that survives on crime and scams. I've tried not to think like this and give everyone the benefit of the doubt but there just comes a breaking point after which I'd be an absolute idiot to have anything to do with them.

I thought it was a very honest documentary. And considering that many of them did not have a formal education, they expressed themselves and their thoughts very well. There is already enough division in society, surely it is better not to judge others. I think that if you look for the worst in any group of society you will find it, just as if you look for goodness you will find that also. Whether you agree or disagree with their lifestyle, it is their choice and we should be respectful of that. Never judge anyone, just as I hope no one ever judges you. Life is far too short for conflict and I think we all have a collective responsibility to be fair and inclusive to all members of our society without prejudice. I wish them peace and happiness just as I do for everyone else.

When we were kids, they'd try and rob us, travellers broke into my parent's house when they were staying on the nearby common and the site near my house is disgusting, huge piles of trash everywhere. Every time I see one of these interviews, they always say 'real travellers aren't like that'... So when will any of us ever meet a 'real' traveller?

We gave a traveller a very fair chance and he charged us £1,100 for an hours work repairing a roof. The repair lasted a week and he never returned to fix it or refund the money. When I drove a taxi I was forced to take 6 in a cab licenced for four to their destination. They didn't care that it was my job on the line and they didn't even tip. I've had stones thrown at me by traveller children from behind the railings where they made camp. They threw rocks at cars passing by too all well in sight of the adults I've had too many bad experiences for it not to affect how I think about them... Oh yeah, a traveller parked his car on the pavement and when he drove off he did so at speed and directly at me on the pavement. They've got money because they all have nice cars so they can club together and buy their own bit of land to park on, preferably away from me

Travellers bring it on themselves they chose not to settle down in one spot and break the law by staying where they please if they paid to be on a caravan site and didn't participate in illegal activities and work then they would have no problems with anyone but again they want to justify how they live as if it's not their fault and they think he rules should be different for them than anyone else they make their situation worse by not living by the law of the land which they choose to do nobody forces them to live like that

Interesting documentary. I've lived on the road, with Irish Travellers, Romanies and "New Age Travellers" I've worked for Irish travellers and had friends who were gypsies, though I can't rokka the lav as well as I used to, so I'm not just talking as a gorgio. I've met some right bastards who earn their living as tarmacca's, tree pruners etc 99% of jobs were done badly and the customers pressured into handing over money, paying 1000's for half an hours "work". I could say more but won't, it would stir up more shit. Then again I've met some very good people, but they can seem very aggressive to settled people, but that's the front you have to put on when your on the road. I'm sorry lads, the travelling way of life in this country is finished, there's not the sites there used to be. Also why bring your kids up in the same unsettled environment you yourselves were brought up in. Give em an education so they can earn good money without having to go tattin for scrap and can settle arguments with their brains and not their fists. Lastly I'd like to ask travelling folk how they'd feel if a load of strangers pulled up in their community, like muslim's for example. Travellers are prejudiced too. You get prejudice when pull up on site, especially if the last lots of travellers that were on the site were choring off the locals and left the place in a bloody mess when they left. You know the type of thing, empty gas bottles everywhere, unburied shit, tat and rubbish and loads of odd shoes for some reason. The council are not going to give the next lot of families in trailers who pull up, a happy welcome if the last lot cost them £1000's to clean up the mess. Still I've been evicted meself, it aint nice, but if your not welcome somewhere why prolong the situation. Tat down and cor the drom. Lastly, lastly then I'll shut up. If travellers were not so secretive and insulated, they may get more trust from settled folk, obviously your man in the house is going to have to meet them half way; there has to trust of both sides, though it isn't going to be easy. Good luck to three lads in the film, I wish you the best, and to everyone else, try not to judge, though I know it aint easy. Kushti bok, may the road rise with you all.

I have no issue with someone living their own way of life, no problem at all. But you can't complain when you turn up to a public, council owned (tax funded) field or park and just decide you live there now and the police turn up to kick you off. And they aren't turning up in clapped out trailers and 30 year old cars, they turn up in state of the art 40k caravans with Range Rovers. Why can't they buy a plot of land between them and then go and live on it, then they can do what they want.

No offence, but travelers wonder why locals don't want them there or won't give them work or trust them. Yet it says In this documentary that 60% of travelers end up in prison. That might have something to do with people not trusting you. Would you want to pay someone to do some work on your property knowing you have a 60% chance of employing a criminal? Infact it's likely even more than 60%, because not all criminals get caught and serve prison time. I know you can't tar every traveller with the same brush, but the traveling community as a whole don't do themselves any favours, if they wanted respect they should banish and shun the criminals in their groups. I do infact know some travelers and they aren't all bad, some are very honest and a shake of the hand is all you need to do good honest business with them, but some of them really let the others down.

Hmmmm, i get why they feel being moved on when they park up on the side of roads or on private land is unfair ... but the reason i understand that is becuase i understand the laws of England . If everybody dediced we were going to live wherever we wanted even if i ts private land . Where would we be ???

Also because they trash the area and leave rubbish and crap (literally) when they leave. Let alone the thieving and standing over pensioners, etc.
