This can end up in 2 ways, eighter the countries will compete in maintaining the road, to boast about having the best part of it, this will lead to a excellent road, or neighter of countries want to be the one to fix the road, and it becomes a hot potato, this will lead to a very shitty hot potato road as both countries are pretty stubborn

Reminds me of the Vennbahn. A long string-shaped piece of Belgium that juts into Germany. It's like that because of an abandoned railway. The railway line was built partly across what was then German territory by the Prussian state railways. It is now entirely in Belgium because the track bed as well as the stations were made provisional Belgian territory in 1919 under the Treaty of Versailles. This resulted in the creation of six small German exclaves (five remain to this day). It also created one small Belgian enclave.

However, you can’t cross the border without a valid reason. (And going out to take fresh air is not one of them 😉 )

South of Aachen there is a simular road: a road with a german number (B258, B="Bundesstraße"="federal road") going from Germany to Germany through Belgium although this road was not as controversial. But close to this road there is the Vennbahn, wich has been a german railway track in Germany until the end of WW2 when Belgium got more Land and the railway went from Belgium to Belgium through Germany. So they made the ground under the railway belgian too and the railway became a belgian strip through Germany. Today the railway is teared down and the track became a belgian cycle path in between Germany.

That`s one of the fascinating things about Europe, there are a lot of really old nations in a very small space I mean how cool is it that a 400 year old treaty is used to fight against a stop sign with the reason given that it is against said treaty to build fortifications against travel

1:08 Llívia is a SPANISH 🇪🇸 town because Catalonia is part of Spain. Suggesting otherwise is a dangerous move that might cause a bloodbath in the comments section. Never underestimate 45 Million Spaniards currently confined to their homes with plenty of time to defend their political views 😉

Ask Llivians. In the last elections, not a single councilor was pro-Spain. All of them were pro-independence of Catalonia. Therefore, it's not really Spain, because what matters is what people feel and think of their own land. It's only dominated by force by Spain without local consent. www.naciodigital.cat/municipals2019/municipi/17094/llivia

Great video Sam, small thing though, as far as I've heard, when there's a word beginning with "LL" in Spanish, it's pronounced like a Y.
@fakinyamo
@fakinyamo 4 жыл бұрын
Not entirely true. In castilian spanish, there is a phonetic difference between LL and Y . And then you have to consider that Llivia is a catalan name and in Catalan there is only the sound.
@ylcard

Yes, except that the name Llívia is Catalan and not Spanish
@cvlen
@cvlen 4 жыл бұрын
@@fakinyamo Well, that used to be the case, but nowadays most Spanish speakers are "yeístas": we pronounce "ll", that used to be pronounced /ʎ/, as a "y", which is pronounced /ɟ/. Thus, we don't distinguish anymore between "rallar" and "rayar", for instance.
