Thanks for this Nick. Aside from the Internet Investigator's recent video about Robot Wars, I've not watched much robot combat related content in a long time. These Iceberg style videos are great precisely because they start with the well known stuff and move on to the obscure, creepy and disturbing stuff the further into the video you go. I understand that due to the whole global pandemic thing the robot combat scene has not been greatly active until fairly recently. Does anyone know if Bugglebots will ever be returning again? Thanks

I remember being told about Clarksons brush with death, by our classmates, Team Roadblock, when we went up to watch the S1 final filming. Clarkson also told the story to the audience, explaining that it's why they needed to subsequently install the substantial Polycarbonate safety shields to protect the audience, contestants, presenters and crew from any further flying debris.

I remember Simpsons followed by Robot Wars in the UK but dont recall the other program you mention. Watched it starting in series 2 and loved it, got one of those collection DVDs back in the day

And the fact the game is also from the BBC makes it even worse... Besides that, it was amazing to learn about the iceberg and I still wonder if there is more to the list

when it comes to razor's gentlemen code and people saying what he did with the milannbug, it actually was a thing talked about behind the scenes with the teams talking and razor agreeing to just go for the cheap wheels, not only would it be entertaining but again, won't completely destroy the bot and lose their money also I feel tornado didn't cheat...but certainly cheated the spirit of the competion, though I do feel he should have lost the moment he went over the pit, even if he didn't "fall in"

Since Tornado couldnt fit in the pit I always thought Razor shouldve got the win since all 4 of Tornado's wheels were in the pit Edit: I also had the Shunt RC toy! Used to make famous bots out of Knex too and fight them. The hypnodisc clone almost always won

There is no should have in the equation the rules were clear and explained in the show itself, as the two robots were still connected it was judged that Tornado was not in the pit but being suspended above it. had Razer been able to seperate itself and back off they would have been granted the win. Whether or not Tornado could actually fit in the pit was always irrelevant.

Actually razer never fought in a series of battlebots it was on the PPV's yes it lost to Tazbot but also to Rhino (built by inertia labs the guys who built toro, T minus and bronco) when rhino went straight through the armour with it's pneumatic punch and turned razer off. The only series they competed in was series 5 and the reboot with warhead. The other crossover was son of whyachi was taken to robot wars to compete but wasn't run because the producers were worried it could kill a house robot! The legal dispute had some interesting consequences one being that Marc Pauline (founder of Survival research Labs) and the rest of the san francisco robotic art community wanted nothing to do with robot combat, the only person involved in both is Zander Rose from Inertia Labs, who's got some cool photos of his volunteer work with SRL on his facebook page.

Channel 5 treated Robot Wars like shite, moving it around so much so the viewership would fall. If I had C5 at the time (I live in Ireland) I would have watched the show anyway, because I was a huge RW fan growing up, but S7 not rating in C5's top 30 shows is just shocking.

Just over a minute in an I have to post a comment and its not going to be popular. I'm glad Tornado beat Razer. I like most was really impressed when Razer first showed up by the time the 6th series had arrived, their matches were really boring to watch. Same thing every time, plough into an opponent, bite down and not let go. Boring. At least that final match with Tornado was interesting to watch, if nothing else.

I thought the whole point of the pit was lame, a no go area of the arena where a fight can be lost because you happened to go into it? OOTA I understand but pit never liked, when it was a hazard with the gauntlet that made sense but in respect of ending general fights, nah.

I found the pit to be a good addition. Yeah the rules around it were inconsistent and highly controversial but it gave robots like panic attack a real chance and offered a new layer of strategy so I think it was a good idea and inclusion. Just wasn't executed the best
