In 1978 my first job at 16 was at a movie theater that happen to be the theater that showed RHPS on Friday and Saturday nights at midnight. I had never heard of it and was quite naive. Because of the title, I thought it was a traditional horror movie from the 50s or 60s like Dracula or Creature from the Black Lagoon. Boy was I in for a shock! It totally blew my mind--I couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing and it was so much fun. My friend/ coworker would do our closing duties, go outside for a little 420, and then watch it almost every Friday and Saturday until 1980 or 1981. Great movie--great music--great people--great memories!

That sounds so Awesome! Where was this at? I had a Punk Rock girlfriend when I turned 16 for a few weeks that summer and she got me to watch it with her and I been hooked ever since. Rocky Horror is always my escape from the everyday world and always keeps me feeling 16. I've always loved old Horror- Romantic Horror like Dracula, Frankenstein, etc as well as Punk Rock- Rock n Roll Misfits, The Cramps, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, etc......and Rocky Horror was everything I felt inside that I couldn't express before, as well as Punk Rock. I think Rocky Horror and Punk Rock are one in the same. I gotta still get "Don't Dream It, Be It". I've always loved that line from Richard O'Brien and have made that my motto for life. I'd love to hear more about you working at the theater during Rocky Horror. You also seem Cool as F*ck!

We had it too back then. It went on for almost a year. Eventually I talked my Dad into taking me to that experience. I dressed up in my normal shredded flannel metal head clothes back then. My cousin tacked aling thinking would be cool. That was my first and only theater experience like that. My cousin cried mist the movie being scared. To me, that was the first biggest influential film moment that changed my life. I finally felt welcome and like I belonged somewhere. The theater closed that following week. Have never gad that feeling since, and Im 47 now.

Saw the movie in theaters over 400 times... 500 if you count video/DVD. My home theater was the 7th Street Theater in Fort Worth, Texas. I was fortunate to be able to perform the Time Warp on stage in Denton, Texas in front of Richard O'Brien and Lou Adler at a special premier of Shock Treatment. Of course... afterwards we all hung around for the midnight showing of Rocky. So many years ago... so many memories. Just like the kids in this documentary... if you knew me outside of Rocky, you'd have never guess what I did on all those Friday and Saturday nights.

only saw it 3 times but I get why people saw it 3 or 4 hundred times it was a great live dance concert with awesome music, hilarious humor, no dividing line between audience & band and a very liberating shared laugh at all the dumbass pointless rules about who could be how in USA culture I appreciate what folk say about it having been liberating for gay & trans folk who felt isolated in small towns; but it was liberating for anyone with hyperactive heart, eyes, mind, empathy in a pointlessly strait-jacketed culture I rarely go to movies, never missed the TV I rarely had, & rarely watched it when I sometimes had one, but I bought a dvd of this movie, & still love it every time I watch it, which is several dozen by now. it's medicine that tastes great, with an afterglow that lasts for days the way the great live bands do the "audience participation" of the people who'd seen it repeatedly was.a great part of the fun those 3 times

Ah I was lucky enough to see RHPS at the 8th Street Playhouse in NY back in the day (alas, not the Waverly where it started). I was a bit shocked by how small and cramped it was. I myself played in Allentown for 13 years (which until the General Cinema's destruction in 2001 was the longest running Rocky theater). We were spoiled with a large theater and even a "backstage" changing area of sorts. Ah so many memories. Lost my virginity at Rocky (literally). Played every part. eventually began working for the theater, moving up to assistant manager. Couldn't perform often anymore but now I actually controlled the film - played it upside down and backwards for April Fool's one year....that was a blast!

It didn't appear in my area for another year and a half or two years.

My story for Rocky Horror Picture Show : I met a female at a party back in the 80's. We started dating. She has been to the movie theater to see the flick before, so she wasn't a " virgin ". She knew everything to expect. I haven't, but she filled me in on the situation. Had a marvelous time, & we had planned to go again soon. We were even going to dress up like Riff Raff & Magenta the next time. I thought to myself that I wouldn't want to be the folks who had to clean up afterwards. Anyway, she started dating someone else the following week without telling me ( had to find out the difficult way ). Since then, I bought the album & have seen it on TV. Wasn't the same as seeing it at the movie theater, though. Magenta sure was my favorite. I could even sing like Riff Raff. Man, I sure do miss the good ol'days. ☺️. P.S. Someone should upload R.H.P.S. on KZbin, if it doesn't interfere with copywriting policies. Shock Treatment is on here.

RHPS: 50's meets the 70's ST: 80's meets forever, because our lives are exactly what it predicted over 40 years later. Also it characterizes the entirety of the 80's. Electric, colorful, fake, contained and kitschy even before 80's was those things, considering it must of been conceived before the 80's were around and filmed in 1980. Only thing it was missing was more electric keyboard to the music. I adore both movies for different reasons and entirely different messages. The ending of Shock Treatment is so creepy, but everyone is smiling and happy, insane, but there are some who escape. RHPS had people die, and the survivors singing a sad song about people being destroyed and some insects called the human race. Like, honestly both have such good commentary played in a fun memorable way with banging tunes.

"Shock Treatment", is to "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", in the same way that the Meatloaf album "Dead Ringer", is to "Bat Out of Hell", the first a fun filled ride with tragedy, then for the next one, it becomes a dark and more somber abusive type humor. I remember songs about Toasters, a town, and Brad being tortured, while on the Meatloaf side there was his song "I'll Kill You if You Don't Come Back"", which sort of stopped me wanting to listen to the rest of his stuff for a while, until "Bad Attitude" and, "Bat Out of Hell II" albums. I think I've watch "Shock Treatment" about 3 times, hoping it will be better than I remember, but then realizing that I probably won't re-watch it again. Then I forget about it, and try to refresh myself with it, "Oh yeah, that's why i never re-watched it". I still like that type of sci-fi horror humor. My favorite movie is "Transylvania Twist" with its silly songs, visual puns, and nuttiness, I just wish the songs had more to do with the movie events.

There's one key element in RHPS, that without it, no one would know, nor really care about RHPS. That is the songs. The subject matter alone, in the hands of lesser talent, could've/ WOULD HAVE been absolutely dreadful. If they were bad arrangements, it would religated RHPS to irrelevance, and it would have disappeared a long time ago. I doubt it would have been made into a film. Without those songs which a well scored, intelligent and helped to propell the story. My favorite is ... "I'm Going Home" All of the elements for success were in the right amount, and in the right places. That led to RHPS unbelievable staying power.

I made it to the point where Shock Treatment was highlighted, and that film proves my point. Song about a blender, shower curtain. There might be one song in that soundtrack that's passable, otherwise, none of them come even close to being as good as RHPS

Nah, bitchin' in the kitchen is the worst one. Most of them are actually good. I feel like ST is more about the early 2000's and today.

I STILL LAUGH EVERYTIME I HEAR O'BRIEN OR ONE OF THE PRODUCERS CLAIMING SHOCK TREATMENT IS AN "EQUAL" TO THE RHPS. THAT MOVIE WAS SOOO BAD, IT WENT PAST GOOD AND WENT RIGHT BACK TO BAD. AWFUL, IN FACT!! I DECIDED TO WATCH IT A SECOND TIME THINKING I WASN'T IN THE RIGHT MINDSET. NOPE! IT STILL SUCKED!!

I quite like shock treatment but it’s definitely not at all like Rocky horror

Calling it an equal was a joke on not saying it's a sequel or a prequel. It's entirely different than RHPS. It's a commentary on pop psychology and consumerism and has a totally different feel. That said, it's perfectly fine to not like it, but it really seems to vary. People seem to love or hate it. It also feels 80's instead of 70's even though it was filmed right when the 80's started, it already had the electric phony predigested feel to it which the 80's aesthetic is full of.

Seen many people with this same opinion. I love it! It says so much about our current lives and I'd love to see it included in a double feature shadow cast someday.

I wonder if anyone ever showed up to the theater just to watch the move. Then got up and left and demanded a refund because all those "Virgins" won't stop interrupting the movie.

I love it! Wish I would have been introduced to it the same time as RHPS. Understandable though, I think the movie gets better as it goes on, but then there's an abrupt end.
