Sorry John (both), the Chinese and Russian have fielded several intermediate range hypersonic missiles both air launched and land launched for half a decade now. China has a hypersonic wind tunnel. The US has neither the missiles nor the tunnel. Russia has shown great capability in air defense (AD) in Ukraine, and it's missiles have been able to take out NATO AD installations. In fact one of the great problems of Ukraine has been the failure of NATO weaponery to tip the scale against Russian Technology including ER (Electronic warfare), and their rapidly developments in use of FPV drones for attack and surveillance. NATO's low arms and ammo production is particularly troubling in this era of multiple theaters of conflict.

Yes., the only field where US lead without a question is propaganda and control of information. And this war destroys the "Western leadership" in military tech that exists in popular perception thanks to decades of soft propaganda. People learn.

The Sherman tank example is a poor one. Yes, one on one the Sherman was not as powerful as the German or Russian tanks. However, the Sherman could out maneuver both and the Sherman always had other Sherman's with them. The Sherman out maneuvered and out numbered it's counterparts. Numbers and maneuverability beat raw power nearly everytime

Shermans had its advantages but despite great training (and safer..) most crews didnt even know it could shoot on the move with a stable gun Maneuverability did not matter in tank warfare, tanks that shot first generally won, shermans really barely fought other tanks because the vast majority of tanks were on the eastern front, at the very least they fought less than one dozen tigers *ever*. There were like 100 at most but they rarely faced shermans and usually got abandoned or blown to bits by the airforce. Worse gun, worse armor, worse profile. Better quality optics and ergonomics and the ability to shoot on the move (but not used or known by most crews)

Very interesting to hear theories expounded so clearly. I would be interested in John's 'take' on RJ Rummel's (University of Hawaii) extensive research on violence and war as related to political power and his conclusion that democracies have never declared war on each other, basically because power is not concentrated in the state.

The US has taken that "technology" dimension to an absurd degree. Before the Ukraine war, the US could not keep fighter aircraft and some land vehicles in service long enough for airmen and soldiers to meet their training requirements.

The Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day (1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV). All have sinned (Romans 3:23 KJV). All unsaved sinners will end up in the eternal lake of fire (Revelation 21:8 KJV). Getting water baptized DOESN'T save us (1 Corinthians 1:17 KJV). We are saved by grace through faith, not works (Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV).

China is way ahead of the USA in constructive technologies and innovations such as renewable energy and infrastructure buildings such as HSR, ports, airports, railroads, bridges, and roadways. The USA is ahead of China in destructive technologies for wars and destructions. The plans for HSR in the US dated all the way back to 1965 but until now, only a small portion of the Acela Express route qualifies as true HSR. It is a hefty price to pay to stay as #1, militarily, and I don't believe this is what the people wanted.

These ideas of Prof. John Mearsheimer are the essence of many important things. The same idea is interpreted differently in the minds of different individuals, according to their past experiences, conditions and their personal interest. Prof. Mersheimer is stressing continuously that nobody has a monopoly of truth and tolerance is indispensable. When channels of communication between competitors are broken, the winner will be who is more powerful economically, militarily, and ready to self sacrifice to protect their country .

Mearsheimer annoys me no end. China is only a Superpower whilesoever the USA and Europe keeps outsourcing their manufacturing. The moment that outsourcing stops, China's gross national product will fall off a cliff. It really is that simple. Indeed, you only have to look at the massive explosion in electronic manufacturing infrastructure WITHIN the USA these past 2 years to witness this fundamental outsourcing change is already underway because the USA recognises it has become a security risk.

Russian military technology is not that far behind the US, and in important areas (air defence and electronic warfare) it is actually superior. The S400 is significantly superior to the Patriot (which has an effective rate between 6% and 34% according to several US senate inquiries), and superior AD nullifies the primary strength of the US military…air superiority. We will see this in force when the European jets reach Ukraine mid year

The fundamental problem with US is that it no longer as generations ahead technology over China and Russia. No matter how "advanced" its current weapon systems are, they are at the SAME GENERATION of China or Russia technology. Worst yet, it no longer has the MANUFACTURING advantage over China. So if China and Russia team up, they have the SAME generation weapon technology and China has the manufacturing advantage. Therefore, their combined position can be equal or even ahead of US. What does it mean? It means US can not use technology domination for its military. And what does it really mean? It means US can not dominate the global finance and trade. US still has a slight advantage in technology research but so far there is no new generation of technology or weaponry to show for. On a slightly different topic: US tried the "Virus Weaponry" on China but China responded with immunization shots and total nation lock down. And in Russia, the weather is cold enough that Virus weaponry is not too effective. So it is not a good way to go, at least not at this moment in history. But make no mistake, we have moved from NU Age to Virus Age. The devil is out of the box.

China not only have the manufacturing capacity. They have the applied technology, like high speed trains (how much does US have), which they can do research on EMRL on aircraft carriers, rail guns etc. Electric cars, where battery advancement are made, which can be applied to submarine. Nuclear fussion, which they have made advancement in making smaller nuclear reactors, which they can put in their military equipment. Their shipbuilding capacity is now 50% of the world commercial ship building, whereas the US is 5%. Backing that up with the high amount of engineering, science & mathematic graduates coming out from china. Whereas the US universities are struggling with WOKE. Both China & Russia have move forward. Especially China.
