The Role You Have To Fill, Christian!

I've been playing a lot of Baldur's Gates 3, so lets talk about roles in video games and how it correlates to us as Christians.
Finding our purpose can be frustrating. Does God even want to use us?

I am so glad I found a Christian brother playing BG3. Brother, how can you reconcile playing BG3 with being a follower of Yeshua? I love the Lord more than my own life, I life and breathe Him! I love playing games and RPGs as well. I'm currently playing BG3 (Bard) but I've seen so many wrong things in the game. Demons, devils etc. Ive seen devils trying to get my soul by giving me stuff (exactly what Satan tried to do with the Lord), I've been having issues and... been thinking a lot if I should keep playing BG3! I'm trying as hard as I can to avoid all the demonic stuff from the game, for instance, I dont have Wyll in my party (I refuse it) but still... Shadowheart's story is also very pagan like.... I don't know! How are you reconciling playing BG3 with being Christian? BTW do u have a twitch account? May the Lord bless you in the name of Jesus! Maranatha!

I would say that I would avoid the choices I’m not comfortable with. Stuff like avoiding making deals with the devils. The other thing I keep in mind is that this is a game where the setting has several gods; obviously I don’t believe this to be true of real life, but I can still play the game knowing that this is the setting/rules of this fictious game. (Similar to how I can play this game and kill in it) Of course it’s not simple to understand where you’re at with these games, but that’s where God’s grace comes in and just leaning on the Holy Spirit. I don’t have a twitch channel, but I do stream games (like Baldur’s Gate) over on HERO SCRUB on KZbin.

I think a decision like that comes from prayer and being the Word. Ask your Father and be sensitive to Him. He wants to lead you anyway

I enjoyed Baldurs Gate 3. Played it for hundreds of hours. Like a lot of fantasy storytelling today and in the past, it is set in a world of paganism, magic and monsters. If this bothers you as a Christian, stay away from it entirely. And like many of the great fantasy stories of the world, all of that is just the setting for human experiences like friendship, trauma, religious trauma, good vs evil, disillusionment, slavery, etc. Each of the origin characters are an opportunity to journey with that character to resolve their past or reach a conclusion. Apart from the gameplay, these human experiences make up the core of Baldurs Gate 3 and are what makes the game successful and relatable. However, Baldurs Gate 3 pushes titillation, gender fluidity, sexual relations and even bestiality needlessly. They aren't essential to the story and only serve as vehicles for humor and excitement. But more importantly, I think these elements reinforce the values of our current world, its sexual immorality or the world's ideas of sex and gender (for which God's wrath is coming). The magic, the monsters, the devils (fantasy devils and cartoonish parodies compared to what real evil spirits might be like) are not at all concerning for me because they are par for course in the genre that includes Lord of the Rings, etc. Did I say I played it for hundreds of hours? As a believer, this is what bothered me more and made me uninstall it. It played to my weaknesses. This is the subtle danger of games. If you tend to spend hours lost in experiences like this so much so that you may neglect your the time and the talents given to you and derail you from being passionate in your vision and in your day to day God given tasks and even prayer and the Word, stay away from this game. Now if you reach the end of this review of mine and think I'm against this game, you are wrong. I am only asking you to check yourself if your priorities in order. Otherwise, enjoy Baldurs Gate 3 in your free hours as you would a book or a movie. It is a superb game in many ways but flawed as it is a pornification of sex, like much modern culture, entertainment and social media.

very well put. One aspect that I love about games that are so secular soaked, is that they give me an unique opportunity to learn these secularalities. Obviously this is dangerous and does need caution. The main thing I mean is that the character's motivation, triggers, and ideals, is a reflection of someone - or it is a mirror to the character's creator of what they may want. understanding these elements can possibly be a way that we can relate with others. God could use that. With all videogames, overplaying / over focusing on them can get between our relationship with God - which is dangerous. I agree with your point, that when playing any game, we need to not forget our true purpose of living for God. Thanks for your review!
