Lisa Fischer. There's a film about great rock backing vocalists, including her, 20 Feet from Stardom. She says singing face to face with Jagger the audience disappears. The guitarist who wandered out first is Keith Richards, who shall rule the world with the roaches long after we're gone.

I remember watching an interview with Mary Clayton. She said she got a phone call in the middle of the night and went to the studio immediately. Said these crazy white boys wanted her to sing about rape and murder and she's like uh no. Then the band explained the concept behind the song and she agreed to sing the part. Rock history made.

Maggie, her name is Lisa Fischer. She did a lot of live performances with The Stones for years, primarily as a background vocalist. She is not the woman who sang on the recording of this song. That was Merry Clayton, who did a lot of background work and session work on a lot of artists records. When the Stones did their 50th anniversary tour in 2012 they used celebrity singers at the various tour stops including Mary J Blige and Lady Gaga among others.

As an aside, about your confusion on Rolling Stone magazine not being affiliated with the band. The Rolling Stone reference common to both is a Muddy Waters blues song called Rollin' Stone. One of the most iconic songs of the 60s was Bob Dylan's Like A Rolling Stone. Dylan, in turn, was reportedly inspired by a rolling stone reference in a Hank Williams country song from the 40s. While the Rolling Stones were only 4th on Rolling Stone's list, Like A Rolling Stone was 1st on Rolling Stone's list of best songs.

You should hear the studio version from Let It Bleed. Mary Clayton, the backup vocalist on it, put so much into it that 1. You can hear Mick Jagger faintly say Whoaaa after her part. 2. She actually ended up having a miscarriage from overexerting herself on the vocals.

By no means the best version. The Stones popularized the African-American blues and sold it back to America, where it was ignored. So their music is about weaving complex rhythms, Listen to the first two albums, focusing your attention on the bass and drums. Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts were jazz-trained and so could handle mulitple rhythms.

You can always tell which one is Jagger. As Candy Slice (a Gilda Radner character) put it “Here’s to you Mick Jagger. You’ve got the greatest Rock and Roll band in the history of Rock and Roll and you don’t even play an instrument!” Fabulous reaction to a fabulous performance. Maybe you should start a ‘Rock and Roll band’ as a sideline. You got the voice, you CAN play instruments and you got the moves too. 🤩

LOL, I don't think there is anything you could do to Keith Richards that would piss him off more than mistaking him for Mick Jagger. You know that couple that has been married for 50 years and gets on each others nerves everyday but will never break up as long as they live? If they were in a rock and roll band they would be Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

Occasionally the Rolling Stones have different guest female vocalists singing duet on Gimme Shelter. If the RS ever go on tour again, maybe they'll have auditions for the female vocalist on Gimme Shelter. You should audition if you have the chance. I think Lisa Fischer is past her days performing with the RS.

You should give Tool another go. Maybe with The Pot or 46&2. The individual members of the band are great, if not the greatest, in their genre. A few hints for listening to Tool for the best results: 1) Always use headphones to catch all the dynamic music and time changes. 2) Never react to the video versions as that will just distract you from the music. 3) Always keep an open mind and feel free to lookup the lyrics as there are multiple levels to Tool songs. If you try them again, I am sure the Tool Army will respond and give further information about any of their great songs you decide to react to.
