The iconic Nicky Hopkins on piano. And strings arranged by John Paul Jones, pre-Led Zeppelin. Mellotron by Brian Jones.

Another Stones song in a similar mode is 2,000 Light Years From Home. The band out of their comfort zone but doing really good.

Great album. I love their early LPs. My sister danced to this as kids. I became a huge Stones fan in HS.

Keith Richards is a really underrated composer. So many songs he’s written that have very different sounds

Check out the "B" side' 2,000 Light Years From Home". The most psychedelic song from the era.

I came to make the same recommendation!! This was a very cool LP, but that one stands out! The Stones must have thought so too since they play it live right up to the modern day!

The LP that this is from, Their Satanic Majesties Request, was the Stones answer to The Beatles Sgt. Peppers LP. Everybody was taking LSD at the time as well so there is a big psychedelic infusion to both of those LP's and maybe even more so for The Beatles on Magical Mystery Tour and the accompanying film The Beatles made for that LP. You can see how high they are in much of the footage...look at Paul's eyes in The Fool On The Hill footage! Anyway, that is the great pianist Nicky Hopkins on piano and here is the whole breakdown for the song..." "She's a Rainbow" is a song from The Rolling Stones's album Their Satanic Majesties Request. It was composed by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. It features Mick Jagger on lead vocals and percussion, Keith Richards on acoustic guitar and backing vocals, Brian Jones on electric guitar, mellotron, flute, trumpet, percussion, and backing vocals, Bill Wyman on bass guitar, electric organ, and backing vocals, Charlie Watts on drums, Nicky Hopkins on piano, and John Paul Jones with string arrangement. "Stray Cat Blues" a track off the 'Beggars Banquet' album released back in 1968 by 'The Stones' has a funky/bluesy vibe and worth checking out. The song is absolutely filthy and nasty. It has been said in the music industry over a half a century ago: "Stray Cat Blues" is a ('sleazy rocker'). Guaranteed if 'The Stones' recorded that song now-a-days it definitely would not receive airplay as it did in the late 1960's on the F.M. radio dial. At any rate, the song is smokin' hot. 💫💋👠👧👧🎤🎸🎹🥁🪘🔊🔥☮🎧

The Stones were criticized for following and copying the Beatles. It's hard to argue against considering Satanic Majesties Request following Sgt. Pepper. But I'll put She's a Rainbow against any of the great Beatles songs of that era. I think this one stands the test of time just as well. Like others, hats off to the great Nicky Hopkins, maybe the best session pianist in the history of rock n roll, who played with the Stones in their prime.

I guess if you're going for "psychedelic" then lyrics, nor message, nor depth are really important hahahah. Still a musically pretty tune though! Hm where's those mushrooms I been saving..

The Stones were at their best and most creative long after the Beatles. Don’t get me wrong but I’m so tired of this 60 year old question who was better! This song is very early Stones and I love it but their later stuff was … is still epic .
