the wonderful Nicky Hopkins on piano. "She's a Rainbow" is from "Their Satanic Majesties Request" an album some claimed was their response to "Sgt; Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band". A Festival Friend who always wore Rainbow jumpers passed away a few years ago & had asked for everyone to come to her wake wearing "as many colours as possible", as we walked into the funeral parlour, "She's a Rainbow" was playing loudly.

It was the signature tune to a danish tv-show for children in the very early 70’s. The song has been a part of my life for more than 50 years. Didn’t know that you could sing? Girl of many talents 😃👌

She's A Rainbow was met with mixed reviews. Those hoping the Stones would join the burgeoning psychedelic music community, loved S A R. Those who felt the Stones sold out their Blues roots were disappointed. Many of which considered S A R as nothing more than a poor mans Beatles knock off. Like you my Empress, I like the song too. Adieu, RNB

This is a fave Stones tune!!.. It's different, just like "You got the Silver" (Keith sings).. Or, "Time Waits for No-one" (Can hear U2, Colplay influences).. #Stones

The Beatles came out with their psychedelic Sargent Pepper album that year (1967). The Stones showed that they, too, could do it. Regardless of all the negative BS by idiots who think only the Beatles could make music of any kind. The Stones could do anything too. The following year, when this kind of music had passed, they went back to their Blues roots and put out their best album to date . This is a beautiful album, this being one of the most beautiful cuts .

Thank you for reacting to the Rolling Stones. Now you need to listen to "Paint it Black," "Gimme Shelter," "Jumping Jack Flash," "Ruby Tuesday," to name a few.

The album this song came from seemed to me an experiment by the Stones, trying on the psychedelic glasses the Beatles had worn in making "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," which was a HUGE hit with fans AND music critics. But it was unnatural for the Stones, and they went on in their own dynamic way. Even the title "Their Satanic Majesties Request" indicated they were not going to be tinkling the high notes for long. 🎶🎵🎶🎶🎵

Before this one they did “Ruby Tuesday” early in 1967, and before that one they did “Lady Jane” in 1966, and before that one they did “As Tears Go By” in 1965 (which was actually written in 1964 and given to another artist). They have their fair share of softer baroque songs. Of course, Beatles fans with an agenda like to pretend that they own this sound and try to take away any credit away from the Stones and their collaborators.

This is a very fitting and well done song during the time of the women's rights movement of the late 60's and into the early 70's here in the states. Women have often been the strength of our nation over here. A topic worthy of a few google searches at least. Peace/JT

Brian Jones was still alive and The Rolling Stones were battling with The Beatles trying to outdo each other psychedelically - it all pretty much ended when Jones died.
@fuchsiaswing85452 жыл бұрын
On the contrary, Brian Jones had burnt out on the Stones’ foray into baroque pop and psychedelia. His contributions were marginalized to playing flutes, mellotrons, dulcimers, saxophones, and other instruments. Although his little contributions added a uniqueness to the songs on Aftermath, Between the Buttons, and Their Satanic Majesties Request, he progressively saw his involvement with the band diminish. When the Stones recorded “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” in April of 1968, it was Bill Wyman (alongside Charlie Watts and Brian Jones) who developed the main rhythm. Brian felt the Stones had diverged too far from their roots and said the song was “getting back to ... the funky, essential essence.” While Brian’s input on Beggars Banquet was minimal, I think he gets too much credit for the Stones’ psychedelic period, or Jagger/Richards likes to pin it on him. He helped steer the Stones into other realms of world music and exotic instruments, but I never thought Brian had the creative control to go beyond offering advice.

You should also check out 2000 Light Years From Home. Proof that a good band can turn their hand to any music style they choose. Of course Bitch and Jumping Jack Flash should be on your To Do list too. It's always great to see you reviewing older songs, I think they have more effect on you.

I am sure I am going to get a lot of people rattled. But I have always thought the Stones were better than the Beatles. The Beatles had some great songs yes, but they were safe, silly, and a little whiney. The Stones were dangerous, intense, and naughty.

The Beatles did nothing as good as this and also never rocked like the Rolling Stones. Lots of people have been sold the story that the Beatles did everything first, check out the dates of new stuff and you will find that it's not so. They were clever and so was their management and publicity like never before. They are easy to consume like McDonald's for the ears.

I still love the Stones, but they never ever had the breadth and depth of sound like when Brian was layering down different vibes with different instruments. The guy was ahead of his time. Bit messed up but a talented groovy stylish cat
