I was 20 years old at that time and remember that many were calling them old and questioning their potential to stay on top. Here we are 43 years later and they are still going strong. They are one of the few constants in my lifetime. So many other things come and go with time. It is hard to imagine them not out there making music somewhere.

My mom died in ‘90 from a brain tumor (cancer). She loved the Stones and couldn’t leave the house without her tapes. I found this out only a few years ago. Funny thing is I’m the same exact way. I wish I could be here and tell her she only had 9 years to live. Maybe she could’ve gone to see them live. Love the Stones. Their music’s helped me get through the roughest times in my life and will continue until the day I die. Love you guys!

@JayManJerimyfresh2 жыл бұрын
if you go and watch the e one from altamont, which.....is gotta be a total one off arrangement, as I dont believe they were touring at that moment and Ive never personally heard them do the song anywhere close to how they did it that night.. Its probably one of the first handfull of shows they'd done with Mick Taylor in the group (who, its not even worth arguing really how great that era was for the stones, sound-0wise.. almost every record- if not EVERY recorde they put out with Mick was legendary...his contribution to the band, imo brought about their greatest creative potiential as a group... not to take away tho from their era with brian where they made a name for themselves iun the first place i guess, and ..well, whatever.. the mick taylor era sounded frickin rad to me... lol) ...so the altamont show was probably 1-3 months after Brian Jones death and their first show with Mick in Hyde Park like.. the following day.. which was a bit dark... but then the band played and all the darkness whipped itself into a sort of translucent form, never quite fully taking shape but always kind of undulating in time with the music ...a hypnotic, invisible dancer accompanied the band live for the finsl months of the 1960's.. ...But, do please check out the arrangement of Under My Thumb from the Altamont show before landing on this as the best version. Its really loosey goosey, theres a lot of heavy acid goinjg around through the crowd, theres a lot of... A LOT of tensions in the air .. increasing anxieties and a very on-point awareness by the band of some kind of impending trouble.... there was about to be a killing take place less than 50 feet from the stage while the band played.. and as they were not entirely able to sus what had occured until after the fact, they continued playing that niight after the dude got killed and finished their planned set... but in the Under My Thumb footage, you se it strarting out with a tense fucking scene... mick is trying to talk the hells angles ( their hired security for the event) whod been lining the stage all night sitting or leaning on their bikes, getting more and more fucked up as the show went on, as the sun went down and as the stones finally took the stage... audience members - unsuspecting hippy weirdos had been subjected to whole batches of dreaded "bad acid" circulating through the crowd that day and night.. motherfuckers had been falling out left and right on some heavy, life-altering freak-out shit .. so that alone was enough to crank up the tension and paranoia factor among the crowd.. but add to that the fact that the hells angles had been running the security for the show mostly by bashing pool cues over motherfuckers brains for hours and hours while getting more fucked up, more pissed off, paranoid, and violent as the show wore on... it didnt sem byu the time the stones lit into Under My Thumb that it would have taken much at all to get that kind of attention paid to you as an audience member in close proximety to the stage, or any member of the security team... mick looks kike hes stressed the fuck out... but damnit if it doesnt all add up to produce the coolest presentation of under my thumb that I have ever heard.. come back and let us know hoiw you like it, ya?

I once ran a nightclub that had a capacity of 1000 people. We had many national-type acts, mostly older rockers and newer heavier acts (this was circa 1993-1994). You cannot beleive the level of stress that job carried. From irate drunken customers,parking lot brawls, city officials wanting to "shut you down" to gain political popularity, the list goes on and on. As I watch this video, I can't help but think what the venue management must have gone through to carry off a show like this. To the attending fan, it's just a good time. To the venue management, someone could (and probably did ) have a heart attack over this type of production.

Amazing. This video is from the start of the 80's. This means that even their old is old.

Saw them twice in Seattle, Civic Center and Kingdome. Great shows but I would have given my left testicle to see them in one of those impromptu show ups at a small Toronto or New York club. They were known for that. So sad to no longer have Charlie. He did provide some stability to the band. His replacement is a fortunate person. But alas, we all got just a one way ticket. Having video and quality recordings of their entire career is a blessing.
