Obviously, a lot of work went into this series. The quality is superb. Just the casting alone was outstanding, not only did the actors bear some resemblance to the real people, but they were also good at their job despite the fact that their acting had to consist mostly of body language as there was very little dialogue.

abc64pan The series' graphic design was fantastic! I value docudrama reenactments less, but the performances and casting were some of the best I've seen of this type. However, this documentary series was ridiculously biased and full of "History" Channel Aliens-did-it level selective information and omissions. This was a polemical apology for the Romanovs, not a history doc.

I'm addicted to history documentaries, and this is the first and only one that has successfully cast recreations, integrated them into the whole and used them sparingly to highlight dramatic situations.

"Father asks me to tell all who have remained loyal to him and those over whom they might have an influence, that they should not avenge him, for he has forgiven everyone and prays for them all; that they should not themselves seek revenge; that they should remember that the evil there now is in the world will become yet more powerful, and that it is not evil that will conquer - only love." A fitting outro for the series by the Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna, an imperial saint and martyr. Her words spoke the truth back then and even more so in today's society.

Almost a month ago, I came upon this series by accident while just on KZbin because one day this came up on my recommendations and I became curious. I had no idea what I was in for. This series is so well done that I watched the entire series in about 8 hours or so in one day. Once I finished one episode, I had to watch the next one and then the next one and so forth. Ever since then, I keep coming back to this series to watch it again and again and even as background noise for when I'm studying while I'm in school. I've always been interested in the history of the Romanov dynasty but could never find enough information about all of the rulers. This series changed it all for me. This is truly one of the best documentary series out there. Thank you, Star Media.

The rest is USSR. Next came Jackson-Vanik Amendment and the same went on in sealed RR cars to Vienna and further on into the US.

An interesting, even some mystical fact. The Romanov Dynasty began in the "Ipatiev Monastery". The first Czar Michael lived there. The Romanov Dynasty ended in the "Ipatiev house". The last Czar was executed there. Such a coincidence. Such an irony of fate.

A fantastic documentary. To be very frank, though Indians and Russians have a very strong relationship since 1947, but, I must admit that as an Indian, we do not have much knowledge about Tsar dynasty and happenings in Russia during the last 300 years. It was as a curiosity , I started watching Episode 1 of the series. But it was difficult for me to get up before finishing off the last and the 8th episode of the series. Brilliantly made, confidently retold , superbly enacted and historically presented : few words can speak of the stupendous efforts, that would have gone behind production of the series. Complements to the team for an awesome work.

We'll done! A very well balanced portrait. I've been interested in the Romanovs since I was about 12 years old. I've read every book I can get my hands on. This documentary series contained a lot of information that I hadn't heard before. I'm impressed because most books and documentaries on these people take one side or the other. They're either tyrants or saints. This showed both sides. What actually happened, why it was perceived as it was and how history was affected. Again, well done!

I was definitely sad while watching this last part just because I know how it ends 😢😢😢 but one trait amongst the Romanovs is their hesitation to seize power seems many of the heirs had their reservation so I'm kinda glad that their burden came to an end, may Tzar Nicholas and his beautiful family be at peace together for eternity what happened to them was disgusting and I hope it haunted those responsible for the rest of their days
@MadameSchrute
@MadameSchrute Жыл бұрын
It's not about seizing power. Power is a heavy burden. It was inherited. You are responsible for everything. Your education, your life, your family life does not belong to you. You give all these resources to the country. To the people. You're a strategist. You are a speaker. You're an encouragement. You're a consolation. Therefore, the heirs were afraid of this burden and responsibility. And that's a healthy fear. They brought it up in such a way that it was before God. Therefore, even despite all their experiences and unwillingness, they took it upon themselves. I'm madly sorry. To tears. That revolution destroyed the elite. Education. A Lot. Honour Bulgakov's Heart of a Dog. Although no, it's not worth it. I doubt that it has been translated correctly and the meaning will be clear. It is better to learn Russian to read in the original. I am happy that there is an opportunity for other peoples and cultures to learn about our country. About her story. Reliably.

An insightful and detailed account into the Romanov dynasty. The biggest curiosity these documentaries leave however is the illusive note left by Paul I, I wonder what it contained. Also the end of the series gives a nostalgic feeling and one can't help but feel sorrow for the Tsar and his family, but revolutions don't happen for no reason.

It's for the very 1st time went through all the 8 episodes of the magnificent story with minute details & narrated for eternity in mere 24 hours of my life witnessing almost 300 years of glorious history with ups & downs. But it was a disgrace how revolutionist murdered the last line of decedents when they accepted the reform for the betterment of the people, I got to re valuate my history lessons on Russian Revolution for sure. thanks for this great series like all the other ones, I managed to watch the whole series from the beginning to the end. It brings me great surprises about the Romanov's household and their great efforts to build a strong nation. Despite the fact that I am not a fan of monarchy, and indeed Nicolas II and his family does not deserve such terrible treatment. I do deeply respect Russians, who have great civilization, great culture, great music, great arts and technologies (including the USSR era).

This is the best series on this subject I’ve seen. Sadly all it tells him is that monarchs are just dictators by a different name and should not be allowed to rule without consent from the people. Watching this series it becomes obvious that the revolution had too happen.

This has been one of the best and now one of my personal favorite documentaries. I’m sure it has some sort of bias (probably pro-Russian) but everybody has biases and this was very well done and as far as I can tell quite accurate

I think the Romanovs is a great dynasty ... keeping an empire that huge is overwhelmingly difficult ... that someone brutally, barbaricly ruined the dynasty is a pity ... and where were all the allies, families & friends of King Nicolas Il ...

Yeah? Tell that to Brits and French who's empires were a bit larger and harder to maintain (due to the fact they were over the oceans). Allies? They tried to help - but it does not matter when the vast majority of your own people wants you out of the picture.

An excellent documentary that provides tremendously insightful information into the history of Russia... It has been stated that the West is completely ignorant of the Russian people and their history. May Putin rise up to restore the greatness of this country as a presence of peace in this world. No doubt the Russian people are much more conscious of their own history and the roots of their Greek Orthodox heritage. I would love to go to Russia today.

That would be a great series too! France and Russia more so than any other country were really created by their dynasties that it's almost sad that they lost power so violently. The Romanovs and Bourbons are such interesting families especially their last monarchs. Nicholas II, Louis XVI, and even Marie Antoinette were so devoted to their family and country yet they're also such tragic figures. That's what makes them so fascinating.
@hectorfleed7
@hectorfleed7 9 жыл бұрын
cubanmissile113 It's maybe sad but the fact is that they didn't care really for their people. In France , just before the French Revolution people and particularly children were poor and hungry but at the same time nobles were celebrating partys , playing games and exploiting the population totally ignoring their problems. What were they only claiming just before the 14th of July? Just "Bread". It was almost the same in Russia. But i think also that the execution of Louis XVI was really cruel. The fact is Royal family was isolated in their castle and didn't take conscience of their population problems and food privations.
