Interesting to see such a big improvement and the value coaching has given you. I raced for 10 years in the 1980s, not starting until I was 29, and coaching was almost non-existent. I learnt from advice from more experienced drivers, and occasionally on one occasion from another driver's in-car video. Top tips were the right gear (e.g. 2nd not labouring through in third) and reassurance that a very fast corner was really flat. Near perfect lines are the basis for driving (crucial for qualifying) but racing will eventually demand figuring out how to get through the same corner off line, either to get out of the way of an accident or to pass a car that is slower than you through a corner.

Thanks John for the advice, and yes I tend to labour through third in several corners.. when I watched it afterwards that became clear. Good point... and of course racing with others is another ballgame all together... perfect lines are most of the tom obscured or defended/blocked by others... something else to learn for old rookie (63)

Hi Steve, I'm the fellow you might remember, who raced at Riverside International Raceway in the late 50's and early 60's. I'm impressed you were able to lower your lap times after having gotten some professional instruction. Smart move! As someone already commented you were a bit late in the corners which obviously effected your lap times. Additional practice will hopefully fix that! Obviously, the more practice laps you put in the better your lap times will be as well as your personal comfort level on the track. I need not tell you track temperature, tire pressure, tire wear, and camber also greatly effect both your driving and the cars handling and performance. Avoiding those track concrete edge pavers is a must as it will really screw up the cars handling and stay away from the gravel run outs. It's all about the line of attack for those curves and knowledge of the track. Good progress - keep it up!

I took your data and fitted an exponential model, this implies that each trail will be a little better than the previous one, but that there is a limiting value. In other words, if you don't change the car set up you are the limiting factor. The model suggests that the limit is 2min 1s, and you will get there as follows; 10 laps 2min 8s, 15 laps 2min 8s, and 20 laps 2min 1.2s. Looking forward to your sub 2-minute lap. Bonne chance!

Thank you for the effort and yes, its me who is the limiting factor. The same car , same set-up with a pro is less then 2 minutes.

That's encouraging, rereading I sounded a bit rude, it was not my intention, sorry. Looking forward to seeing your progress. @@D3Sshooter

Great Steve, no substitute for seat time and practice. Racing with others is a different ball game you’ll be watching your mirrors too much. In Europe do you have a novice mark on the rear ? In uk we have a black cross on a yellow square. This helps others to know that you are new and they’ll tend to give you room. Enjoy.

Thanks for the comments, I can only confirm that I indeed watch to much out for others in the mirrors... Amd yes I do have the rookie sign yellow/black cross in the back ... you will see it soon in a next video... Training is indeed one thing, free open tracks, few cars, racing with others is something else... as I have experienced ... its hard and one tends to be to careful ... I do at least as a rookie.

Good job! It's just that you were late on the entry to the corner you don't like. Thanks for the ride
