When Hamilton says "You get love for it, you get hate for it, you get nothing if you wait for it, wait for it, wait" with the company at the end, I get chills, and not the good kind. That moment to me has always been the one that kind of seals his fate. It's terrifying, knowing what we know about Burr and Hamilton.

And yet, he's not wrong.
@jp38134 жыл бұрын
At the same time, Hamilton got that deal by taking Burr's advice of being subtle about what he really wants.
@AerielArt4 жыл бұрын
Not my observation, but I found it really interesting when it was pointed out to me so I thought I'd share: Notice Burr doesn't state what he's gonna do when he gets into the room. He probably doesn't even know. He just wants to be in it, because he feels it'll make him important, and that's about it. Even though it very much seems like a change, in some ways he's still holding onto that very passive attitude that he has.
@aj711694 жыл бұрын
This was my take as well. This song is really just Burr stating the one thing he does believe- his family’s status should afford him a place of stature. Notice if you go back to Wait for It, there is never an indication of what HE wants to accomplish. Only the belief that since his grandfather, father, and mother were considered leaders, he just needed to ‘wait’ to be called to his rightful place is among leadership.

My favorite story behind the song is that the ensemble was ordered to call out whatever city came to mind in that second, and they could only hope it was in the thirteen colonies. My favorite thing is I clearly hear somebody shout "TORONTO" which is not a city in those thirteen colonies, rather a Canadian city. Us Canadians would love the US capitol, random ensemble member!

Is it just me or does this really feel like a disney villain song to anyone else
@no1takethisname4 жыл бұрын
@Summer Rose this wasn't originally a Disney production. Actually some people have gone as far as interpreting Burr as the main character. Their opposing views points, talk less and not throwing away my shot, are valid in their own right. There are many layers here and Disney villain is one of them.

@@jp3813 hence Burr, or not. Depending on your view.
@qrowing3 жыл бұрын
@@no1takethisname That would make sense. Burr is often the one telling us about what is currently happening in the story. This could also be described as Burr's "I want" song. Who lives? Who dies? Who tells your story?

For me, it's gotta be 4:21 That's where it takes a real villainous tone.

Alexander's sarcastic "you get nothing if you _wait for wait for it"_ is honestly one of my favorite parts of this song. Everytime I hear it I just go "damn, burn" 😆
@AlexKnauth4 жыл бұрын
Yeah this is a huge turning point for Aaron Burr, I love how Ham uses "Wait For It" back in his face, and with that "if you stand for nothing Burr, what'll you fall for" from all the way back in "Aaron Burr, Sir" Also I recommend watching Exadorlion's animatic of Room Where It Happens, it's really good: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rouZlaFrmZuKosk

Such an amazing song... also credits due to the creator of the animatic, which really gives astonishing visuals to represent what gets told by Burr and what he feels like. I could picture an animation studio with a bigger budget doing a fully animated and colored version of it, it could be as good or even better than the stage performance, so I'm glad that's how I experienced this song for the very first time too. And I had a reaction similar to yours: I went from "nice song" to "I got chills" to "alright this is a bop that will stay in loop in my headphones all week" lol
@ConfuseTheMasses4 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: At this part (2:47), the company was told to shout somewhere in the colonies but they usually just shout random places. (I think I hear Florida but I really don't know.)

Little detail in the lyrics that not a lot of people pick up on: “How the sausage gets made” is (probably?) a reference to a quote attributed to Otto von Bismarck, the German prime minister who masterminded Germany’s unification in the late 1800s. “Laws are like sausages. It’s better not to see them being made.” The channel Extra Credits did a great series on Bismarck, highly recommend.

The line about "how the sausage gets made" also refers to a time when we didn't regulate food safety and humans who mad sausages were geting limbs caught in the machinery and the same meat was still being sold. Here is the kicker though. Grade A meat was the most popular with the richer population because it appeared to be better as for why else would it be named grade A instead of B or C. Grade A actually referred to what had the most things added to it ( fingers , hands and what not) 😂😂😂. Food saftey was able to be established so fast because the top of the pyramid was effected if it had been strictly tied to the commoners as a problem it would have took much longer for change. But it effected the rich, cause no one wants to find out they are eating the butchers fingers they could care less that accidents where happening so often at the butchers due to dangerous equipment but they couldn't live with the fact they were unknowingly eating the worst of it due to wanting the BEST grade of meat. Grade A was the last thing you would want at the butchers back then 😂😂😂😂
