"I am the one thing in life I can control" is such a telling line for Burr's character... He was orphaned at a young age, and so many things that happened in his life were out of his control, but his actions are something that he DOES have control over, so he always makes sure that he's careful, and not risking too much, the opposite of Alexander

I think in a way that applies to goth of them, all they really had to rely on for a long time was themselves because they had no control over who else was in their life as they both lost just about everyone else. But while that's a motivation for Alexander to risk everything because he doesn't or at least didn't have that much anyway, it's a motivation for Aaron to wait because he has actually little and can't risk losing it.

"When everyone who loves me has died." His father died when he was 1. His mother died when he was 2. As did his maternal grandfather. He ended up in the care of his uncle, who was abusive and who he tried to run away from multiple times. These tragedies continue well into his adulthood. People close to Aaron Burr die.

Yeah, I mean [slight spoilers?] Charles Lee, his friend, died about two days after the war. This is actually something many people get wrong, because he didn't actually die in Ten duel commandments.

@@agenttheater5 Exactly. His wife died, as we know from cut songs, but his daughter Theodosia also died.

Its still chilling seeing Hamilton's figure raise his hand to the sky in this animatic knowing how his story ends.

“Dear Theodosia reprise” is definitely a song I would recommend listening too, it’s right after Schuyler defeated and there is an animatic too, and I feel like it really makes other lines in the musical more impactful, but it was sadly cut.
@xXxJason_ToddxXx4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, and the only reason it was cut was not due to time or people disliking it, but because LMM was worried that people not familiar with Burr or new to Colonial history would get confused over Theodosia's name and not know which one the song is referring to, since the fact they share a name is only mentioned once in the musical.
@emperordaniel95954 жыл бұрын
_Dear Theodosia (reprise)_ actually occurs after _Burn,_ before _Blow Us All Away._ It's placed in between those two songs in the original off-Broadway staging of the musical, it fits the tone of that part of the musical better, *and* it fits the timeline better - the events in the reprise take place around the time of a certain Pamphlet's publication.

Whats great about Burr is that he did technically wait for Theodosia. Yes he slept with her and stuff but he waited until her husband died to be with her cause they really loved each other

Awesome thanks for uploading these together! Great reactions as usual! Wait For It is another strong contender for one of the best songs of the musical.. man has vocals!!! dang!!! this is also one of my favorites of szin's animations. the visuals are just incredible! the contrast between hamilton's "I'm not throwing away my shot" v burr's "I'm willing to wait for it" is.. really something. they're both big themes throughout the musical and i think it's really interesting. it's really their difference in mindsets that kind of led them down the road they went.

Many people have touched on why this song packs such an emotional, character driven punch. But I wanted to point out musical influences as well. Lin wanted this song to sound like an Usher song, which my sister and I picked up on during our first listen of the soundtrack. Usher actually sings it on The Mixtape. What has become one of my favorite games while listening to the soundtrack is to try to pick out the different musical influences that Lin used to shape the songs.

Well I guess there's a difference between being born with a family legacy behind you that you must live up to if you can't fall back on it, one where both his father and grandfathers were presidents at Princeton (apparently) and the grandfather he mentioned according to some wasn't just "a" fire and brimstone preacher but was in fact "THE" fire and brimstone preacher, and bringing yourself up in the world when there's a chance that all you'll ever be known as is "the bastard brat of a Scottish pedlar" as John Adams once referred to him.

Eric you plan on doing the next two next week (Stay Alive and The Ten Dual Commandments) however I just wanted to let you know that the following one after that (Meet Me Inside) is an immediate continuation. I do feel you will lose a lot of substance and importance if you wait another week to continue. Just my opinion.

@@kaylalayla9759 Agreed! Meet Me Inside is super short, it'd almost make sense to have it share a video with another song because it's not very long lyric wise, although there's definitely plenty in it to unpack.
