Remarkable. Thanks for this Keith. Whether or not Rosemary channeled these great composers, becomes secondary to the beautiful music composed. Because it was scored and much of it recorded we can enjoy it - what a joy!

As a dedicated composer for over 60 years, with a master's degree in composition and the recipient of several awards in the realm of concert, music, and also as someone who has research and studied meticulously the technical infrastructures that define the musical ethos or style of many of the most famous composers, and who can himself compose in those composers styles quite convincingly and effectively, I would, after many decades of absorbing and analyzing Rosemary browns output, have to conclude that while the music possesses its own charm and merits, and betrays a technical proficiency which she would have been highly unlikely to have possessed in her earthly persona, for the most part, it does not quite achieve the levels of inspiration and brilliance of the composers to which it is attached. I say that with some regret and even reluctance, as I would have preferred the opposite to be the case, because amidst the cotery of composers who allegedly visited her and wrote through her, are some of my most beloved colleagues. They also seem to have been inexplicably stuck in the metier or the chronological stylistic conventions of the earthly periods in which they lived, seldom exceeding those harmonic parameters or melodic conventions, and the music that came through tends to have a pervasive lack of the one quality which I do most critical in the creation of a truly great work of music, which is inevitability. And all the greatest works that you or I or anyone can call to mine, the reason they can be called to mind and that they do deliver such and intense and overwhelming emotional impact is that , in the course of their unfoldment, they achieve heightening levels of meaning through moments of inevitability, which, if they had not existed, would have left the musical narrative on a relatively conventional or uninspired level. If there's any doubt about this fact, one has only to pick out one or two of one's favorite pieces and then find within those pieces moments of musical, ecstasy or perfection, even in one's own definition of those terms, quite apart from what other professionals or history has said If you do look at those moments clearly and then you pose the question ' what would this piece have been like, or how would I feel about this piece today, if this measure or several measures or segment had not been where Chopin or Bach or Beethoven decided to go ? Better yet, if one had a professional composer at one side and he or she decided to recompose the piece from that point with a different ethos or set of choices, and one had a chance to experience the disappointment of having lost the moment of ecstatic inevitability, as did Leonard Bernstein with Mozart's 40th symphony, when he recomposed it so that instead of being the asymmetrical masterpiece it was, it became totally, predictably, boringly symmetrical, then you would know instantly and intuitively that something essential, irreplaceable was missing. To make a long story short, Rosemary browns creations or channelings seldom achieve this level of musical meaning, criticality, perfection, ecstatic culmination. Rather, instead, she presents us with often charming, intriguing, sometimes eye-opening and inventive, but almost never unforgettable, irreplaceable, ecstatic art. Therefore, if the music is coming to her from discarnant beings, it might well be from what occultists term, the astral shell or the energetic aftermath of a human being's existence, in which many aspects of their energy field, their personal style, they're cognitive choices and patterns, still continue to exist for a time, sometimes, as in the case of lingering ghosts for a very long time, before there is final dissolution and reunification with the source In that interim or purgatorial interval of time, there is the continuation or continuity of that individuals. Essence or presence, still detectable, still separate and apart from the universal consciousness, and still possess the various talents and skills with which it was endowed while on Earth. However, with the passage of time, even these skills and abilities would suffer an attenuation or progressive dissolution, as I feel these pieces often suggest was the case A fair challenge to some of those who are dedicated and devoted to the Rosemary Brown phenomenon and the music is produced.. and that is: how much of this music, how many pieces, have really indelibly embedded themselves in your musical memory, in such a way as perhaps, the Great masterpieces of rahmanan Ave Stravinsky , Maurice rave l , Debussy, Bach, etc. Have? How many of them can you actually sing from memory the way you probably could after you first heard Beethoven's 5th symphony or Rachmaninoff 2nd piano concerto? 3:08 Relatively few, I would wager, perhaps none. Yet Yet, as we hear these unusual, seemingly unlikely piano works emerging from under the halting fingers of this, nothing if not humble middle-aged English lady, we are nevertheless struck by the remarkableness of the entire phenomenon, whether it is delivering masterpieces or merely skillful evocations thereof to our ears. Clearly, something mysterious and unusual was going on, and seems to be indeed, a product of far more than a retentive musical brain and a series of illusory apparitions on the part of the musical fraternity of history in the life of one. Otherwise unremarkable English woman. Nor it seems, did most of these beloved composers, seem to evolve to any great degree in the elapsed time since their respective deaths, but remained instead indentured and dedicated to the historical styles in which they lived and worked. As a result, there is often the feeling, which does not occur when listening to the Trudy great music of the past, of hearing the musical equivalent of faded wallpaper, outworne furniture, pleasantly sentimental throwbacks, with a curious, lack of relevance to our time and place in the progression of Earth's unfolding future. Given the fact that most of the composers she brought through, while they lived on Earth, were perceptively evolving stylistically in keeping with the evolution of Music throughout the world, it would seem strange and inexplicable that such stylistic evolution would have been so seriously arrested during the afterlife since theit passing. Meanwhile, clearly, history shows that the evolution of living Earth composers preceded much more rapidly and dimensionally expansively than anything that was ostensibly going on in the heavenly realms. Nevertheless, my respect for Mrs. Brown is quite high and I find myself using upon her with the same fascination which originally brought me to listen to her work initially. 3:08

As a composer, what is your opinion of the process Ms Brown used to create her pieces? The video clip suggested that she sat at the piano and waited to hear voices in her head and then simply wrote down the notes, as a stenographer would type a letter. If genuine to me that would be the most remarkable feat that not even Mozart, and definitely not Beethoven, could have achieved. No mapping out, no messy experimentation or consideration of alternatives. No testing playability of certain passage work or fingering. Just the completed work in its final form. Is that not the most remarkable and stupendous compositional process?

In support of Mrs. Brown's giftedness, I have a dear friend who receives many visits from numerous famous people ( and some not famous ones.) She tells nearly no one about her visitors and her gift, perhaps because her acute sensitivity could not handle the 'scoffers' that might be attracted. One of the most amazing instances of her intuitive/psychic-ness was when 4 notoriously famous musicians each appeared and spoke with her in less than 24 hours. Their names are John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and David Bowie. It was the first visitor, John, who explained that they were coming in support of my friend's love for singing. I thank God for people such as she and Rosemary Brown. And, as well, John, Jimi, Janis and David! 💗💗💗

For me, there is no doubt that the music was channeled to Mrs. Brown. There is no other reasonable explanation. The question is just whether it was dictated by the actual composers or by other beings claiming to be the composers.

Her music reminds of these computer generated compositions applying algorithms and producing stunningly sterile pieces! This reminds me how often inorganic entities would concoct the most tasteless image collages (both in ectoplasm or on electronic or photo equipment) or face appendages! This reminds me of how Castaneda’s Don Juan warned him that inorganic beings are the ultimate tricksters and masters of copy/paste and projections!

Thank you for another well researched and enthralling documentary. Although I am in sympathy with the conclusions of this documentary, nonetheless I would appreciate it more if Dr. Parsons would discuss the possibility of latent abilities as discussed by serious investigators such as Prof. Stephen Braude in Immortal Minds, and Dr Melvyn Willin in Music Witchcraft and the Paranormal.

Why are non-believers so threatened by the idea of life after death??? As for the "mystery" behind her contact with spirits other than famous composers... think about the lack of world reknown, (legitimate) mediums, celebrated like Rosemary, who could provide actual proof of their extraordinary abilities to communicate with people beyond the veil. I imagine that as word travelled in the spirit realm about her special gift that she began to attract larger audiences of spirits whose also wanted to pass on some of their talents through her.

As classical music buff, I can accept these pieces as pure music irregardless of the claims of their origen. All of these pieces were literally written by Rosemary Brown in her own hand. Credit could be given to her and to who inspired the piece ( such as "inspired by Chopin" or "in the style of Schubert").

This just illustrates the fact that no matter how ludicrous and bizarre a belief, someone somewhere will believe it with absolute certainty: and come up with yet more ludicrous and bizarre reasons for doing so. All very sad really. Harmless in this case (I suspect this woman really believed she was in contact with dead people), but not when you are flying planes into buildings because your invisible friend tells you that it is HIS wish.

To form some idea of what was going on here, one would like to know how she wrote the music down; in other words, did she write it staright down at a fair pace without any reworking? As with elaborate prose produced at speed through automatic writing, that would at least indicate that there was something unusual rather than mere fraud (which actually seems unlikely in this case). As suggested, merely to say that such musical works came from her subconscious rather than from dead musicians doesn't really explain much! Really interesting, though, whatever the explanation.

Some of her pieces are indeed substandard, which is expliccable by the difficult transferrence. The most convincing scene is her notation of Grübelei, straight on paper note for note under the BBC's camera. Such a complex piece is never written down that way, a composer does that differently. It was obviously dictated. What more proof needed?

I doubt she has composed this music herself. But I also doubt the ghosts of the mentioned composers are still living and composing in an otherworldly space. Perhaps a talented music student has fabricated the pieces. Though this would afford a considerable acting ability by Mrs Brown to gaslight her audience in such a convincing way.

Brown, I think....! I am what is called a "piano player" having had 8 years of private lessons without good results and I think that the tunes are very bland and boring, with repetition throughout. Actually I think it is easy to mimic the style of various composers if one has heard them one or more times. I think it might be more reasonable that there are not various people communicating with Brown but perhaps maybe one mischievous spirit who is having fun with Mrs. Brown (and us). What is somewhat amazing is that Brown was able to write down the tunes. That is not an easy thing to do. I think she might have needed some help from the spirits with that.

Proof of apparition ! Seen by famous clairvoyant! Around 1973 I watched a TV broadcast on dutch television about Rosemary Brown. The program was called "zienswijze" and afterward I ordered the complete text (in Dutch). In the program prof Tenhaeff, the Dutch parapsychologist, said that he traveled to England with the famous medium Gerard Croiset (who worked on 800 missing cases world wide and conducted the chair tests with Tenhaeff en prof Bender on Japan TV). When they were at Rosemary's home and she sat at the piano, Croiset exclaimed that he saw one of the composers stand next to it ! Late in life, the skeptic prof Tenhaeff admitted that an afterlife was probable !
