The Royal Family's Ties to the Army Air Corps

His Majesty The King has passed on his role as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to his son, Prince William.
The official handover took place at the Army Aviation Centre.
The role was held by Charles, as Prince of Wales, for 31 years.
Prince William served as a search and rescue pilot and later as an air ambulance pilot.
In 2008, he was awarded his pilot’s wings by his father, with a young Kate Middleton watching on.
Then in 2010, William graduated as a helicopter pilot at RAF Shawbury.

He did two tours in Afghanistan, one with the army in 2008 and the second with the air force in 2012, serving as an Apache helicopter co-pilot and gunner. It is difficult to fly Apache attack helicopters in a bunker.

The irony is Harry has more actual military accolades than his brother and was a higher rank than him. Because of his position in the line of succession William never got to see actual military missions. You are automatically promoted when you have: 5 Years service 2.5 years at RD Junior Officer Leadership Programme Joint Officer Tactical Awareness course Military Knowledge 1 The biggest irony of all though is when Harry threw a fit and resigned his commission before he even ended his second tour. You should also know that William did fly missions they were just never revealed because of obvious reasons, so for you to say he didn't also shows you are not familiar with protocol.

Sadly, two American soldiers lost their lives when the base was bombed on Harry's birthday as the British military had announced his return to service and he was targeted. Andrew spent far more time fighting in the Falklands and William spent far more time actually serving the people through his roles as with search and rescue and air ambulance.

@@jshipp5469 There is a reason he was nicknamed 'Bunker Harry'. He had full time body guards protecting him the whole time he was in Afghanistan. He would never have gotten into Sandhurst if he was anyone else, given his poor academic performance. He failed his pilot test three times, and that is with a lot of extra over and above training and special help, so he wasn't serving, he was a nuisance and a liability. There are reports of him drinking and taking off when drug tests were being administered, and being physically abusive to the local prostitutes. Given his insensitive comments in his book about killing Taliban, it appears he equated combat to playing video games and getting a good score. I have no respect for his military 'service' and it appears those that served with him do either.
