There are penguins on your doorstep, spectacular scenery, and, of course, a place that's rich in history. That's a good side of the unusual British forces posting to the Falkland Islands. The bad side is the icy gale-force winds, freezing conditions, and limited roads and connectivity.

When the HMS Battleaxe was returning to Britain loaded full of Royal Marines fresh from the Falklands War it made a port call in Jacksonville, Florida (docked at the old Southside Generating Station). My wife worked there and we loaded our car full of Marines and took them down to Disney World for the day so they could pick up swag for their kids back home.

Big thanks to you for treating our boys right. Little true story for you My parents as kids with their friends used to cycle to the local airfield at pre's heath in Shropshire. It was ww2.....and they used to watch as dawn rose....to see the American bombers come in to land..all the time their hands holding onto the perimeter wire. Some came back OK Others trailing smoke Yet more with non working engines...bent props.....large holes in them or tailored parts shot off. The ambulances would race on together with the fire engines And a little while later the crews would come past on motorised bomb carriages..... Covered in oily faces.....some with bandages.....they never once failed to wave and say hi to the English kids behind the wire.... And......showers of gum or hershey bars thrown as they passed. That's the calibre of these men And we will never forget such kindness.

Fun story, there was a guy who calculated and estimated where would the safest, most hospitable place be in the events of WW3, the Falkland Islands became an obvious choice and his family moved there. And then they had to sat out during the war.

You are welcome.. Hope that your islands are given a port big enough for the docking of our new carriers... The Falklands would make an excellent Southern stop for our carriers as they sail the world.. Please pray that we succeed in getting back the authority over our stolen boarders and laws of our dominion from that parasitical parliament in Europe which plans to break up England and rid us of our Parliament.. WE WANT BACK OUR PARLIAMENT OF OUR PEOPLE FOR OUR PEOPLE.. read Ephesians 6 12-18.. Put on your armour of GOD and pray against those Principalities in high and dark places of wickedness that come against our great Nation Commonwealth and the U S A and Israel... It's the last stand of the Sons and daughters of men against that man of predition and the beast.. Sadly people are blinded to it. Our Lord said " My people are lost for lack of knowledge ". &"The deception is so great that even the elect would be deceived ". Blessings from England... and May our Lord Jesus bless you and your Loved one's with his spirit of peace and joy eternally. Amen.... And from Liverpool... COME ON YOU MIGHTY REDS.. 9th European cup final... Can't be bad... Need that win number 6.. And thank you to all of the Falklanders for caring for our boys and girls when they're down there.. From all of their Mums and Dads.. FALKLAND ISLANDERS... "YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE. "... By the way.. Do you have a cinema down there that our service personnel can watch the Euro Cup Final in.. I'm sure that they'd be made up... ALL THE BEST FROM LIVERPOOL GUYS .. KEEP THAT FLAG ON HIGH.. LIKE THOSE BOYS OF THE LANCASHIRE REGIMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA.. WHO REFUSED TO SURRENDER TO THE BOERS SURROUNDED ON THAT HILL CALLED THE SPION KOP AND DIEING FOR THE SAKE EACH OTHER TO A MAN..WE'LL STAND WITH YOU BACK TO BACK FOR THE SAKE OF THE FREEDOME OF OUR CHILDREN.. Like our Lord Jesus says " For no greater Love hath a man than to give his life for the sake of another ' As he did for us...A great Father.. Ask not what your children do for you...? But what do you do for the Love of your children.? YNWA. FALKLANDERS.... 3-0.. Liverpool.. ☺

It was like id been there for years and knew these people. Thank you so much to everyone i met. You made me leave a part of my heart with you and those islands. Truly blessed to be able to go and visit the islands for work. I walked around with a smile on my face everyday there. Said hello to hundreds of people I’ve never met before. Well it is the Americans that saved Britain in WW1, WW2 and the Falklands war which in itself is a joke. The British are a joke swapping stupid back slapping comments of how great they were, "Blimey that was a close call mate?" The only reason Britain survived the Falklands war was the USA sent the British 105 advanced made in the USA Sidewinder Missiles with Satellite images that pin-pointed the location of Argentine ships and airbases. Duh the British had trouble reading the made in the USA Satellite Maps. Brits are such retards! The Canadian forces sent there would have the same skill sets needs as 4 Para's soldiers. The island's terrain and weather felt like Labrador. Perhaps you can suggest to your unit's commanding officer an exchange, or exercise. It'd be at the very least a great training (public relations) opportunity for both forces. And it can't hurt to ask or suggest; that's how great ideas start.

Lehman: British Would Have Lost Falklands War Without U.S. Support May 29, 1988 LONDON (AP) _ Britain would not have recaptured the Falkland Islands from Argentina in 1982 without U.S. military assistance, former U.S. Navy Secretary John Lehman was quoted Sunday as saying. In a British Broadcasting Corp. television interview to be broadcast Wednesday night, Lehman also says U.S. involvement in the Falklands war led indirectly to the Irangate scandal, the Observer newspaper reported. The weekly said Lehman’s interview will be included in the latest episode of ″An Ocean Apart,″ a BBC documentary series on British-American relations. ADVERTISEMENT ″Britain would have had to have withdraw from the Falklands″ if the Reagan administration withheld support, it quoted Lehman as saying. U.S. military aid in the 74-day war, in which Britain recaptured the South Atlantic archipelago from invading Argentine forces, has been a closely guarded secret, the Observer said. ″Lehman is the first senior U.S. official to claim that the Pentagon’s supplies of intelligence and material were so great as to have been decisive,″ it said.

Howdy Mr. Dods! Good to hear from you. Greetings to you in the Land Down Under from the Land of Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett. I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Australia man, badly. After the British Isles, the place I admire and respect the most is Australia although that doesn't mean I love ya'll any less than the English. When I was a kid my parents hosted some Australian missionaries who were here for whatever reason I forget. This was in the late 70s and the husband of the two was a veteran of ANZAC and regaled me for two days with tales of the history of ANZAC and the Diggers. Those Aussies made an indelible impression on my young mind that I never forgot. I have since always followed events in Australia and have loved its people from afar. My wife loves ya'll even more because she actually spent 2 weeks in your beautiful country and she wants to go back and live there, ha-ha. The big sticking point to me unfortunately is gun ownership Down Under. I am a gun nut and a FIRM believer in our right to private ownership of firearms. Anyway, sorry for rambling there mate. Take care.

Of course, the one huge injustice was sinking the light cruiser ARA General Belgrano. She was sunk on 2 May 1982 during the Falklands War by the Royal Navy submarine Conqueror with the loss of 323 lives. Losses from General Belgranototalled just over half of Argentine military deaths in the war. She was sunk by a british nuclear hunter killer submarine hundreds of miles away from the action. This should not have happened. The submarine could have shadowed the Belgrano and sunk her at a range of about 30km. That is how advanced the submarine was. A 1980s submarine up against a 1940s ship. No match. No match at all.

Under a year later, in 1833, Britain removed Argentina from the islands. There were also no Argentine settlers that were replaced. Falklands - only been there once when I was 19, for 15 weeks, arrived on May 21st 1982, Blue beach, first assault wave, told by 2IC on HMS Fearless we would expect 30 to 40% causalities on the beach during the landings. So not much like Dartmoor. Fortunately landing were unopposed, then had a little wander across the island, 3 major hostile engagements, at the end lost 2 toe nails and 4 good mates. Toe nails never grew back. Now old, knackered and fat, miss my mates, as I do the one I lost in Northern Ireland and the 3 in Gulf War one. But remember the best of them and the times when we were really alive. The Falklands was politically about Thatcher, strategically about making a stand against a bully, protecting those who are weaker, there are times in life when you just have to stand up, as a person or nation and just say you are not going to do that. Two things, the anti aircraft gunners on the ships averaged 18, I saw some children who did miracles. Finally no wounded British soldier died once they got them back to the medical centres.
