@@peterkent1582 hey Peter. Yes I love the USA. If I had to live somewhere else it would be there. When I was in the 6th form I went to a gig at Liverpool Uni and King Crimson were playing. Not quite my cup of tea but I enjoyed it at the time. I was a Tamla and Soul fan back then. Feeling fairly fed up at the mo. Aches and pains galore after a lifetime of sport. Wouldn’t change it but ouch it hurts! Hope you are well

@@peterkent1582 thank you for your words of encouragement Peter. I will travel back to Crosby when she gets her appointments through. The tumour is in the bowel and is probably malignant. Next stop is an MRI Please God it is contained in one area. Patricia is 76 and has been a heavy smoker for 60 years so more worry awaiting results. Despite the years of living an unhealthy lifestyle she is terrified of cancer. We all are, I know but we have to face facts. If you smoke you know the risks. Our Mother died of lung cancer at the age of 69. But as you say, there are new treatments with good prospects so let’s keep our fingers crossed. Thank you again Peter and I’m so glad your health problems were sorted. X

@@peterkent1582 hi Peter. No news yet. I’ve been here since Tuesday. It’s very depressing. Patricia is just sitting in her pyjamas, not eating, just smoking secretly in the bathroom and talking about it being the end. I have also been told I can have my hand operation on 14th so will have to go back next week and she isn’t happy about that. But I need to get it done. If I defer, goodness knows when I will get another appointment. I am staying with my brother so things are restored there. I will have to speak to her daughters who will have to step up until I can get back. All in all things are pretty dire. Just hanging on in there! 😞

I was too young for Royal Scam. But I was 11 when Aja was released, and it is one of my all-time favorite albums. In my 50's now and I've seen them 4 times live in concert (2x with Walter Becker). The last time though didn't do them Justice, because they opened for the Eagles. Steely Dan was playing hit after hit and the majority of people who were only Eagles fans just sat there🥱. It was unbelievable🤷‍♀️

Got to relate a recent experience of mine in a pub on the Thames - so some Dan was playing (bab sisters) and the people in there were really responding to what they were hearing, so I asked the barman if he had Aja (which he did) and promptly got bought a few pints from very happy listeners a little later! The great thing was that most of the audience had never experienced anything like this before - I wonder how many are listening now? Love em!

I'm sorry, but I have to use my bad-boy language: Just...I mean...what a f*cking GREAT song. Period. When I think about rock at that time, like when this song came out, man...this song and the whole album just blew everything right the f*ck away. Completely. HUGE game changer. I was getting out of college and just got a job as a radio DJ when this came out. Whew. It was stunning. This was like the last album of the "old" steely dan...Aja, Gaucho...and the jazz and solo albums that followed, still all good, but they ain't no Royal Scam. My previous favorite Steely album was Countdown to Ecstacy, one that I first heard when I was maybe in 4th grade or so. I had an older cousin who I idolized who like all this hip music from the day. He turned me on to that one, and later another older friend in my neighborhood gave me an "extra" copy he had. Changed my life. Maybe it changed yours too. I don't know.

This reminds me of my dear and sweet memories of post graduate days from college. I was turned on to Steely Dan by my friend of 48 years Stanley Jaquess who is absolutely brilliant and a graduate from Phillips Academy. I was fortunate to meet him at Tennessee State University via needing to be tutor for my Algebra class in order to maintain my academic scholarship via one of his friends that I was playing chess with on a Saturday evening. Thus, begin a journey of a mentor and a pupil regarding class, style, designers and of course I aced my honors algebra classes...

'...where they learn to face an angry race of fallen kings their dark companions.' Fagen is one of the very strongest rock poets. His ironic, poignant and compassionate verses speak to me from a different sky compared to, say, the narcissistic mumblings of Morrison (with honourable exceptions).

I prefer Jon Levis version. Odd, we both land here after the vids. Dont believe entirely 2nd guys theory, citing groundless wickepedia info. No way Caucasians evolved from blacks, who have predominant genes. We are a separate race, as every other. Particularly rare RH'-s, most a total RH D gene deletion and origin unknown. He sounds racist for being white...

@@ErinIsReal correct regarding st. John's island. I find it a bit hard to think that Africa was populated by whites, too, although everything else is backwards! Im not doubting there were white rulers in africa, though. No fricking wonder that i found history class so boring!!
