I'm sorry, but I have to use my bad-boy language: Just...I mean...what a f*cking GREAT song. Period. When I think about rock at that time, like when this song came out, man...this song and the whole album just blew everything right the f*ck away. Completely. HUGE game changer. I was getting out of college and just got a job as a radio DJ when this came out. Whew. It was stunning. This was like the last album of the "old" steely dan...Aja, Gaucho...and the jazz and solo albums that followed, still all good, but they ain't no Royal Scam. My previous favorite Steely album was Countdown to Ecstacy, one that I first heard when I was maybe in 4th grade or so. I had an older cousin who I idolized who like all this hip music from the day. He turned me on to that one, and later another older friend in my neighborhood gave me an "extra" copy he had. Changed my life. Maybe it changed yours too. I don't know.
