The difference is that he solved it on the spot when internet access wasn't easy nor were there videos to watch. It was a LOT more impressive to solve this back then when nobody knew how to do it AND he was under time pressure with the taxi AND he was having someone in the hiring committee watch him. Today, even a 3-year-old could figure it out if you let them watch enough videos so I highly doubt you'll ever impress anyone aside from kids seeing it for the first time. If you think it was merely the fact that he just "solved a Rubik's puzzle" then you entirely missed the point of this scene. He demonstrated adaptability and intelligence under pressure after his practiced speech was ignored.

There's a "beginner's method" that's pretty easy to learn - you can solve it in a minute or two with practice. You can solve it in less than twenty seconds with consistent practice and memorizing a bunch of algorithms. In 1982, when I was 15 years old, I learned the methods to solve the Rubix Cube. Often, on the public train ride to school, I would have someone mix the cube, and I would solve it quickly. I would always solve it in under 2 minutes Now, I can see that this character is not actually solving the Rubix Cube. This scene, as well as the rest of the movie, is trying to promote anti-white propaganda. It tries to falsely establish the black man's superiority over the white man. In expanding on this topic, the men who invented and manufactured the original Rubix Cube were white men. Also, the men that developed the methods for solving the Rubix Cube were white men. In 1982, I had an original Rubix Cube, that was Made in USA, and learned the methods for solving it, from a white man, that published a book with his methods. Now, this particular scene, in this movie, falsely portrays the relation between the white man and the black man. In reality, the white man would have been solving the Rubix Cube, and the black man, if he was paying attention, would have been learning from the white man.
