Also, the first round is a round to feel out the opponent. It is not polite to rush into the fight. Boxers intentionally throw 3/4 strength shots or shots that don't connect. Finally, the fighters are also judged on how well they displayed traditional Muay Thai fighting; a western style boxer or a karate fighter could fight in a Muay Thai fight, but they likely won't win unless they knock out their opponent.
@NinhLyUK6 жыл бұрын
Whilst that's true, that's not necessarily a rule of the game.
@jirace6 жыл бұрын
Right. Another custom, and often a product of the gambling, is that the final round can have very little fitting with the boxers dancing around the ring, especially if both believe they are ahead in points and have no need to fight.
@johnford28986 жыл бұрын
This is how it is in Thailand. Also the crowd plays a huge part in scoring. In Thailand, Muay Thai is such a big party of their culture that everyone watching knows what they are looking at, and the more you fight like a Thai, the more they will cheer. The more they cheer, the more you score. It seems quite arbitrary and "unfair" to most westerners, but it makes for a very electrifying experience once you accept it.

*Some facts about Kru Muay Association* The Kru Muay Association originated from the separation of the amateur Muay Thai from the professional Muay Thai. This division pursued the goal to have Muay Thai recognized as an Olympic discipline by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). A project that has not been successful until today. The officials of professional Muay Thai would like to have nothing to do with Kru Muay. For them this club is only a necessary evil. If you take a closer look, you will notice that all the so-called traditional teachers of the Kru Muay Thai Association have simply appointed each other as teachers and are now worshipped by wealthy foreigners once a year. The whole association is very political, but has less fighting competence than an average boxer in Rajadamnern Stadium or a Buakauw (who is a Cambodian and not a Thai by the way). Despite comprehensive state support, the Kru Muay Association still has no coherent teaching concept for traditional Muay Boran and Muay Thai is still not Olympic. Clinching is not really illegal in western boxing, it's just lighter, and broken up after awhile depending on a few factors that are honestly de facto judge discretion. Grabbing and grappling on purpose certainly is discouraged but if the fight naturally goes to a clinch and it is actually productive towards the overall fight it will be allowed. It will be broken up eventually if the fighters don't work out of it themselves, because the sport emphasizes clean striking, but it's not really against the rules per se. Especially at the professional level it's highly tolerated, although it's of course a different kind of clinch than in Thai boxing or MMA. You certainly can't progress a clinch into a wresting match like say putting someone in a headlock. The other thing you can't do is grab the opponent (or the ropes) to prevent a knockdown--if you do it's scored a technical knockdown to make up for it.
