Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on KZbin are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). Can't say I agree that "most RV'ers are social people." Many, many are. Many like their solitude. I'm sadly one of them, but I do try to be pleasant and friendly. Secretly, I panic if someone knocks on my door. Introverts have social issues that way, and some of us just really don't feel a void in our lives. I like my own company. ;)
@LongLongHoneymoon6 жыл бұрын
I am an introvert too, but I am not anti-social. I enjoy meeting people and making new friends. I just need to have enough alone time to "recharge my batteries" in between social occasions.
@Pack.Leader6 жыл бұрын
I understand and I like to meet people and chat in a passing way but I suffer from social anxiety which makes rubbing elbows with others particularly taxing for me. (Beer and wine help immensely.) I can't truly relax until I'm back in my safe space. It's my own issue and I know it, but it's hard not to have people think I am rude or snobby.
@LongLongHoneymoon6 жыл бұрын
I don't have anxiety, but I understand how you feel. I also sometimes worry that people think I am being snobby or standoffish because I tend to keep to myself. But like I said, I really enjoy social encounters.... I just need to counter balance them with alone time. The internet is a godsend for me because I can communicate and virtually "socialize" without much of the stress.

Sean, Amen. I'm an internet addict. I have lots of people I interact with everyday, on a long-term basis. That's usually enough for me, but when I meet folks while walking my dogs and they get to playing with each other, then I'm very happy to interact and no one would guess I'm a loner.

Last year on our trip to Alaska we drove our own conversation starter, my 1978 Ford Pinto Cruising Wagon! I an fairly certain I was the only Pinto driving to Alaska last year. We participated at car shows in Wasilla and Skagway. In Anchorage , the Antique Auto Mushers of Alaska car club invited us to take part in the 4th of July parade in downtown Anchorage. After the parade we invited to the club presidents home for their club cookout. We had so much fun traveling with the Pinto we bought a 12ft travel trailer to replace our tent for the next time we go to Alaska. We have been on two long trips with it this summer, imanage the looks we get now!

Hi Sean and Kristy. I just wanted to share an experience that RV'ers may want to know. My wife Pam and I were traveling to south Texas for our Winter Texan trip and we were told we could not stay at a Wal-Mart here in Texas. The store manager that I spoke to in Alamo TX stated that Wal-Mart is going to discontinue overnight stays for travelers. The unofficial statement was that due to RV'ers as well as our much needed truckers were taking advantage of the courtesy overnight stay also the comment of our much needed truckers invading parking lots when they have mandatory DOT down time. We drove about 20 miles down the road and we were welcomed with open arms. So I am not sure if there is a "Official Statement" or not but I would suggest that fellow RV'ers do a courtesy check with the on duty managers at the Wal-Mart they are wanting to stop for the evening. Thanks for the videos and the equipment reviews. Steve Kissner retired Air Force soon to be full time RV'er. Glad you are doing better as well Sean!

I enjoy solitude, can be introverted, and uncomfortable around people I don't know at first but one of my favorite camping trips was a Thanksgiving week trip. I was tent camping and rock climbing at the time and the campground had a huge chalkboard at the office where people could post messages for the people you were meeting up to climb with since cell phone reception was a no-go in most parts of the preserve. An RV couple posted on the board that they were having a Thanksgiving potluck at their campsite and would have two turkeys. Everyone was welcome and bring whatever you had for side dishes and drinks. There was a plethora of canned, re-hydrated food, and beer but it was still "great dining". Icing on the cake was the RV dude was a u.t. Alumni and had a satellite dish and TV so we also got to watch the UT vs. TAMU game. Bunch of 20 somethings hanging out with the 50 somethings but was a blast getting to chat and felt like true Thanksgiving spirit event. Ever since I make a point of looking for any bulletin boards to see what's on them and several other occasions someone has posted an invite to their campsite for dominoes, cards, or happy hour.

Those were great suggestions Sean, but since I’m under the witness protection with a alias my probation officer suggested I not get involved, especially since the KGB monitors the camping clubs looking for me. I’m also lactose intolerant so the ice cream social is out of the question and I breakout in hives when I eat fish. But keep up the great videos and glad to see you in the pink.

So, we’re sitting at home planning our next trip and Jim says “hey, there are some new Loloho videos up”. Much to our surprise this one is about a question Jim posted. I’m sure he asked it because on our first extended trip I was so relieved to get to our friends place in Vermont where I could socialize with someone other than Jim. 😂 You’ve got some great suggestions and we are already members of a few groups. We’re still working on our approach to this whole rv’ing thing. Jim loves the solitude and can’t wait to go boondocking whereas I like to be a little closer to civilization. However it happens we’re looking forward to getting on the road again and I’m sure we’ll cross paths with like minded folks. Safe travels all!

I think for the most part campgrounds are pretty social. If someone is at their site we might be walking by and say hi but unless invited or the conversation starts flowing we tend to leave people to their own. We're really social and we have some really good friends we've met camping. If you see The Taj Mahal in our picture at a campground say Hi!

There is every kind of group you can think of out there. Every kind. And they kinda somehow travel In packs so to speak. Our 2nd trip we decided to go about 100 miles down the road to get a grip on r.ving. We wound up right by the pool. The 2nd evening I was sitting outside getting ready to grill up some rib eye steaks when I noticed couples walking to the pool and getting in. They all acted and talked like they knew each other. After a bit another couple came walking by and the lady was carrying a big red Tupperware bowl. When she entered the pool she placed the bowl on a table and all the men went and put something in the bowl. I later realized they were keys. Then the women one by one went and without looking in the bowl picked out a set and the fellow that they belonged to left with her. I honestly didnt understand what in the world was going on till I talked to a guy I had met the day before. When i told what i had saw he starting laughing and said 3 days ago a group of swingers had come in and met and that they will all leave in the next day or two. He said their is every kind of group imaginable out there from swingers to bikers to religious folks. Found that to be interesting.

I was just going to say this. I've never been but people say it's great. And especially if you are hoping to get a job as a campground host. The Big Tent is full of recruiters and they say ("they say") that no one leaves without a job. All over the country, starting different times of the year, and that sounds like the only thing that would interest me enough to entice me to go. (Introvert here.)

Sean/Kristy, In terms of meeting other people, it helps to have a hobby and that you choose to do it "outside". I am a fly fisherman and tie all of my own flies. One individual who is now one of my good friends saw me tying and chatted with me about it...turns out we both fly fish so we when we meet in Silver Lake near Mammoth Lakes, CA, we now fish together...and participate in the "Liars Conclave" where fishermen talk about the "big one that got away". Sean - You play the open strings of a guitar in your opening, but my guess is that you also play and sing. This is another example of a shared interest that creates an opportunity to become part of a group. Loloho....Danny and Gail Kudo

We tend to not be very outgoing, but helping a fellow camper who is struggling with something is a good way to meet folks. We watched a new fiver owner set up their brand new Jayco across from us. We waved in appreciation of the entertainment, but the guy showed up at the door a while later to say he couldn't get cable TV working and did I know anything about it. I was sure I knew the problem, but couldn't find his antenna booster switch to turn it off until finally looking behind the LR TV, so I spent some time there, they offered a drink, I texted the wife to fix a drink and come over. They were seasonal and are such good friends now that we now frequently go to that campground a day's drive away to see them. They are teaching us cribbage and plan to come from Mass to visit us in VT soon.
