The back brakes adjust up more automatically as the brake shoes wear down guys you need to reset the ratchet before replacing the drums Iam from the uk and I had one with the same problems
@spongebobfenn4 жыл бұрын
It's not problems as such. It's just how drum brakes work. Some self adjust others need doing manually with a screwdriver on the winder
@timwegman57764 жыл бұрын
Just go in reverse and slam on the brakes that will adjust they tight again.
@Dodds_Dirtbikes4 жыл бұрын
Cut out the rusty floors and weld new ones in. You can get new floor pans online for a couple hundred bucks. It would probably be easier than patching all of it.
@spongebobfenn4 жыл бұрын
As been said already, the rear brakes need adjusting back in to compensate for the new pads. They were previously adjusted to cope with the wear and now need resetting with the adjuster. They should bind very slightly but still spin by hand. Will need checking and readjusting periodically as they wear

welding looked much better this time! couldn't actually see the welds super well first half but none of the sparky craziness you had when putting that back floor pan in. Good job!
@realitybites46494 жыл бұрын
You need to bring the adjuster all the way down first, then slide the drum on and start expanding the adjuster through a slot on the back plat with a screw driver.
@johnsnider34004 жыл бұрын
The issue with getting the drum back on is you have new pads, the adjuster needs to be turned out all the way. Put drum on and make sure drum spins. Turn adjuster back in until you start dragging on the drum then back out 1/2 turn (or some say just 1/4 turn). A good thing is to also make sure the park brake lever inside the drum is loose and moves freely. not a bad idea to just leave the park brake linkage undone until everything is back together. GOLD
@jtarnecki834 жыл бұрын
Use the adjusters for the rear brakes, they will pull the shoes in. Once the drum is on adjust it from behind the dust plate. The drum should still spin but with a little bit of resistance. Only replace the wheel cylinders if they are leaking. You can grab a flat head and lift up on the rubber boots on the wheel cylinders. If they have fluid behind the boots then replace.

Adjust the brake shoes loose enough to get the drum on. Then manually adjust tighter until the shoes slightly drag inside the drum wall.
@timwegman57764 жыл бұрын
That’s right and a easy trick to tighten them is drive in reverse and slam on the brakes super hard a few times lol it works haha there are other ways but this is the funniest way.

When you open the rockers or quarter panels up. You should atleast coat the inside with por15 it will incapsulate the rust and help keep it from coming back.

@MrLokojorge4 жыл бұрын
The drum brakes self adjust to compensate for the wear of the brake shoes. Since you replaced the pads with new ones, you are going to turn the screw adjuster that holds the bottom of you pads. Once your turn the adjuster down and install the drum, you should be able to adjust that from the back side.

adjuster the star wheel adjuster so the shoes are loose enough that the drum slides back and forth easily on it. tighten the adjuster until the drum is somewhat difficult to slide over the shoes.

You should grind away the lip off the outside of the brake drum and it should go on a lot easier, the other thing if you can't get it on without a hammer, your brake shoes are adjusted too much, the drums should spin but with some friction so it spins for about half a turn after you let go, I do loads of this at the garage I work at

I don't think the wheel cylinder is the issue. Did you adjust the brakes (star wheel adjuster) inward so that they aren't rubbing the drum or where you have to force it on first? You use a screwdriver from the backside to adjust the wheel out again to firm the pads up once you have the wheel on.

You should never have to hammer any brake parts into place especially anything that's supposed to spin. Your issue with putting on the drum properly was adjustment if it's not adjusted properly the drum won't slip over the shoes you have to adjust them down until it slips over with just has a minimal amount of drag.

Dude, Tons of parts available or these cars easily. Moss Motors, Victoria British, British parts northwest, Little British car co, Rimmer bros, heck even Rock auto has tons of parts available. and there is always ebay, offerup, facebook marketplace, craigslist etc for people selling used parts. I've gotten parts from most of these places and had parts in days. Some parts for sure are not easily available, but most are.

Its all part of a truly great British sports car ownership experience. A car to briefly put a smile on your face before remaining constantly in the garage, emptying your wallet, while slowly turning to dust. McLaren still pay homage to this traditional in their supercars now. So badly built you can get lost in their panel gaps.
