I have severe SI joint pain after a visit to a chiropractor. 3 weeks later and I can only walk short distances with crutches.. In the adjustment the chiropractor pushed down on the top of the right hip on a drop table, 5 times. This somehow caused a huge amount of pain on the left SI joint (along with tons of leg and groin pain) the next day and it has remained bad since. I am trying to work out which ligaments could be damaged for discussion with my doctor. I am finding the difference between nutation and counternutation confusing. I noticed that just raising my arm above my head at the front provokes the pain in my SI joint. Would that be causing nutation and counternutation in the SI joint? I suspect that the Sacrotuberous Ligament is damaged because the day after the chiropractor i could feel pain at the bottom back edge of my hip where that ligament attaches. As you mentioned the Sacrotuberous Ligament restricts nutation, so if the arm movement causes slight nutation, then that would be consistent. Btw i am fused L5S1 which I suspect might have contributed to why the adjustment went so wrong

Hey, could you explain what innominate means in the context of the sacrum? I'm trying to look it up but it seems like no one can define it.
@kitrinakearfott10562 жыл бұрын
Interesting question. The innominate bones are the hip bones, or os coxae, which include the ischium, pubic bone, and ilium. The part of the innominate bone which articulates with the sacrum is the ilium. What is interesting to me about your question is that when we are not talking about anatomy, "innominate" means "not named". I wonder why anatomists chose this word for the hip bone.

The innominate bones, also known as the hip bones or os coxae, are the fused bones of the pelvis either side of the sacrum. The bone comprises the ischium, pubis and ilium which are fused to each other in the acetabulum and are part of the appendicular skeleton.

I read somewhere else that the main ligaments that restrict nutation are the interosseous ligaments. But here you say it's the sacrotuberous ligaments. Please could you clarify?
@haydengray44414 ай бұрын
Another SPT here.. the ligaments that restrict nutation are the sacrospinous and sacrotuberous ligament. To understand this you have to look at the attachments of these ligaments, which span from the different anatomical locations on the ilium to the sacrum and coccyx. Because nutation involves an increased distance from the sacrum and coccyx from the ilium, these ligaments will become taut and prevent excessive nutation. The interosseus sacroiliac serve to unite the sacral and iliac tuberosities, which is a different function.

So it’s possible to dislocate your pelvis? I think my right ilium is posteriorly rotated. I can feel my posterior superior illiac spine protruding out more than the left. Been dealing with sciatica for years. Can’t seem to get the truth about it…
@erenix39092 жыл бұрын
same here. does sitting hurt? or does that ilium also feel higher when you sit? been trying to figure out if its si issue or disc issue,

Yes, search Travis Pastrami dual sacroiliac dislocation. He currently has 2 bolts holding his pelvis together.
