While his widowed father goes away on a honeymoon with his new bride, a polio-stricken boy and his dog stay at his grandfather's horse farm, receiving a visit from a woman and her thoroughbred, which hasn't been the same since the disappearance of his steady canine companion at their stable. With Gregg Palmer, Eve Brent, Leslie Bradley, William Yip, Dave DePaul. Music by Paul Sawtell, Bert Shefter, directed by James B. Clark, story by Zoe Akins, who won a Pulitzer prize for the play "The Old Maid" (1935, later a 1939 film with Bette Davis) and was the great-aunt of actress Laurie Metcalf. Sorry that this is not a CinemaScope print.

The scene where the boy packs up to go home and sees Hansel appear on the bed for a minute and then vanish is a lump in your throat moment. Especially if you love dogs.

I thought I'd chip in here as well, watched this as a kid and cute Hansel on that bed coupled with the music, sobfest for me, after decades hiatus and watching as an adult (just before publishing), started getting emotional at 1:01:40 with the music and the 2 of them, then floods of tears; if I re-watch it, it'd be waterworks again. Also at 1:01:06 how animals can form attachments with other species (including humans), cow with a goose (inseparable), and here, a horse with a dog.

Thanks for the upload of this film. I'd never seen it, but with Chill Wills in it, I knew it ought to be worth seeing, and it certainly was. David Ladd is good in this, too.

Once upon a time when morality was HollyWood’s stance. It raised me up to know about different kinds of love. Love for family, for the special animal pet, love between boy and girl man and woman. Taught me about kindness and honesty and most importantly about Romance. But Hollywood today runs by satanic and all about the opposite to every good things. It’s dark and violence and sexual perversion and hateful. 😰😰😰. I grew up in 50/60/ 70. It was the best time on earth, with Hollywood films music country music, television programs. They were all filled with joy and life’s education. I came from country that, know very little about relationships of a man and woman. Hollywood prepared me to meet an Australian man and felt in love and had the most wonderful romanced never dream off. All because classical films romantic films and family shows on TV.

I went to click oon the 'Like' button, but 'Subscribe' is over it, & I don't subscribe to many if any channels. So, it gets no 'like' from me, tho I liked it. Too bad it's set for either subscribe or dislike & no other option!

That's a bit strange, the like button on my desktop is not obscured and I just publish the films with no icons or watermarks or end "subscribe" banners, just "as is." Maybe you can try a different device.

In some ways the 50's and 60's were a great time to be a young adult, but the culture concerning acceptable behaviour in relationships wasn't so great. Mind you the way things are today, I don't trust Anyone.

it should have been called the sad boy with inconsiderate adults the only one that was thinking of the boy was the husband of the snotty woman a better ending would be for her to realize she was wrong and let the house stay at the farm with the boy and dog till they could get another dog to be friends with the horse. and it was annoying that the granddad suddenly treated him like a man instead of letting him know it was ok to cry and the dog would have missed the boy too so is wasn't a happy ending

Good olden days when real men knew how to talk and romance their women, real lady women used to obey respect and worship their real men, and kids used to obey respect their parents elders and very hard working. No time for nonsense PlayStation games and pervertic ideas fantasies gossip etc ❤❤❤

When the film is like a Disney film, it is enjoyable, but later it becomes unbearable with all the ungracious dysfunctional emotions and relationships. Eg the husband explains to the emotionally wounded 10 yr old boy that it's OK to beat women.

"... it was just one little slap!" "One slap to many!" "... let me tell you something, there's times when the only thing you can do with a woman is hit her..." wow, just wow! $5,000 for the dog; What cost $5000 in 1959 would cost $48,157 in 2021.

Mixed feelings for the morality of slapping your wife. (Maybe because my husband was cruel for no good reason. His beatings ended up with my broken ankle (10 bones on one side and a few on the other). He never apologized, and would have gone on in intensity had I not finally divorced.) That said when the reason is laid out I might be okay with a slap, but there were no lessons in my beatings at all. I don't understand this violence to this day. My junior high was named Jonas Salk in Sacramento. I'm glad the kid was healed as far as possible. He was sweet and honest.
