Dragon Ball Super may be off the air right now, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t plenty still left to discuss. The show gave us several legendary new villains like Goku Black, Beerus, and the return of characters like Frieza and Broly. The most interesting character the show introduced us to was by far the quiet warrior Jiren, the grey.
For a large part of the Tournament of Power storyline, the show didn’t give us a lot of information on the Pride Troopers’ greatest member. That changed when it started slowly showing us the tragic story that led him to becoming one of the fiercest characters in the entire Dragon Ball canon. Even Goku’s ultra instinct and the gods of destruction have trouble comparing to his immense power.
This is a good departure from how most of the series’ villains are portrayed. Frieza, Cell, Majin Buu, and even Lord Piccolo were all depicted as being basically just evil. Jiren, on the other hand, started his life as a fairly normal child. It was only through tragedy that he became the uncaring monster that nearly defeated Universe 7 in the final match of the tournament.
So let’s dive into Jiren’s story. What happened to Jiren to make him so cold? Who was the mysterious monster responsible for his tragedy? Also, what does the future hold for Jiren now that he has been defeated? Will he change his ways or turn into one of the greatest villains the series has ever seen?

gohan had his times of slacking off, it's literally the cycle of the series once the cell saga rolled around. goku was never actually training with an actual resolve, and while vegeta did during the times of prior to the frieza saga and his determination to catch up to goku, it wasn't ever to the point where the only thing he valued was power

@@RedditStoryEntertainment He didn't try to kill them. He knew the Angels, the Grand Priest, or Zeno himself would have stepped in and stopped that blast if UI Goku hadn't. He was just trying to prove a point to Goku that the "source of power" of his(that being friendship and trust) can be erased just like that the same way it was for him, and therefore trust in yourself and your own strength is all that matters. It was a clashing of ideologies, also Goku by beating his ass a bit had reawakened his old trauma and he felt literally backed into a corner so he reacted with anger trying to prove also to himself that his "friendship and trust are worthless" ideology was true by beating the dude who was literally fighting for the trust of his teammates and their friendship.

Honestly I believe that Jiren is completely Innocent. After what happened to him, losing everything he loved, I can completely understand his position, it isnt easy. I don't get People who thinks that MUI Goku is stronger than Jiren. Just because Goku put him on knees this one time with friends boost. Jiren put MUI Goku on the ground 2 times and Defeats Goku's MUI Kamehameha with one hand.He tells Goku to knock him of because he lost the spirit to fight. When Jiren throwed MUI Goku to the floor Goku was able to stand up because of friends... The same happened when Toppo motivates Jiren.So even after Jiren takes that Kamehameha in face he was able to stand up and 17,Frieza and Goku needed to team up to knock him off after all that. MUI can't defeat him at the end(It is not Jiren's fault that Goku can't handle MUI more than minute) . Now when he started to believe in friends, he cannot be defeated, that was his only weak point. Creators wanted to show us that if you are the strongest you can't win every time if you fight only for yourself. Overall Jiren have more stamina and strenght, Goku MUI is a little bit faster. If they fight in a place where they are alone Jiren wins.

My theory is that Jiren lost control of his power when he was a kid and that's what killed all of his friends. This is what made Jiren a loner in the first place; he didn't want to kill anyone. He joined the Pride Troopers to better gain control of his abbilities. In the tournament of power, Jiren goes all out and realeases thar red-heat looking power. I think that that's the same thing that killed his friends. I also think that Jiren's race wasn't nearly on his level, he was a rare exception. This is what makes him think friendship is usesless. Of course, this is more of a hunch than a theory, but it would be realy cool if it were true. Edit. TL;DR, Jiren killed his loved ones from loosing control of his abilities.. This makes him a loner and strive for control of his power. Also, this is the same uncontrollable power we see in the TOP that makes him see goku as his enemy.

How is nobody speculating about Belmod being the monster? Maybe he was tired of being a god of destruction, and knew the power that Jiren's race can reach, and did what he needed to do to push Jiren down that path. It wouldn't even need to be in his form as we see it. Whether he can change appearance, or even just hired somebody to do it, and killed them after the second time since there would be no need for a third, and of course Toppo was offered, and later accepted the job.

Jiren's nemesis is Toppo! Toppo was pushed so far that the evil buried deep inside surfaced. Which means by some way it was once hidden. Jiren also commented that Toppo should embrace who he actually was. Meaning that Jiren has witnessed this evil Toppo previously. Which would also explain why Jiren continued to push himself to be the strongest. He knew one day he would need it to defeat Toppo"s inner monster

You missed one guy who could be his secret villain The god of destruction of universe 11 - bellmod. I mean come on- purple aura. Obvious for a God of destruction.
