Dragon Ball has been going for over 30 years, standing as one of the biggest and most successful franchises in the history of pop culture. However, like any piece of media, the series wasn’t always what it is now. It went through countless revisions, both before it was being created and throughout each major story arc. Everything from the editor input that changed and reshaped the Androids saga to the reason behind Perfect Cell’s appearance, there are plenty of interesting stories to tell about the creation of Dragon Ball.
This is to say that there are a lot of instances throughout the franchise where an initial idea, concept, design or plot was abandoned in favor of something else. Meaning, there are a bunch of trashed ideas that would’ve changed everything if they got used in the final product. Things like Buu being a part of the Tournament of Power in the Universal Survival Saga, the series’ initial planned ending after the Frieza Saga, the reason behind Super Saiyan and, of course, all the movies and series that’re now considered non-canon.

This is where goku and vegeta outshine him completely and believe it or not it's this portion of potential that Gohan can't keep up with.. Which given the very limited time he had to train is impressive to say the least. If given time to properly train and maintain his motivation he'd be a beast.

I love how GT goes back to exploring Saiyan lore. I love Baby's back story being a Tuffle which was a rival race to the Saiyans on Planet Vegeta. Also bringing back the Oozaru transformation and how SSJ4 just looked like a monkey king which is what Goku is based off of. The concept in the Shadow Dragons saga that the dragon balls build up negative energy every time you use them meaning you can't abuse their power is really nice because they do abuse them in Z and Super.

CBR is moronic. Only 1 smiled, and it was in character for him to do so as he hates his GoD for being an embarrassing failure. Its not spelt out in the anime/manga, but was released from official sources that that's his character personality. The rest either tried to remain stoic when their universes destroyed, or were sad. Sure. They may have been in on the desired outcome for the winner to wish back everyone. But that was in the fighters hands. If the winner chose to wish for something else, no one would have been wished back. So they didn't "know the universes will come back". No one did.

Let's also give credit to Toriyama as he could work with his editors. Not everyone could have their ideas scratched and just remake it as good as he did. It's not like the editors told him how to do everything after scratching his originals.

A lot of the things people liked about DBZ were due to the editors intervention, like it or not, he needed them. As far as DBZ was concerned, the anime was only supposed to last as far as the Frieza saga which is why Toriyama spilled his guts on the table to make such amazing arcs (Saiyan > Namek > Frieza) this was all Toriyama and his original vision. After that he NEEDED help and he was around people that wanted nothing but success for the show. Broly is another example, he is one of the most loved non-canon (he's canon now but not at the time) Dragonball characters of all time but he wasn't created by Toriyama, it was an editor at Toei and since then, fans have wanted to see more of him. I mean Broly has 3 movies (4 now with the new Super movie) so it says a lot.

For starters, some things stated in GT contradicts A LOT of Z lore in quite poor ways. Also, they make claims in the show that their new villains are supposedly stronger than Z's villains, then proceed to have them display unimpressive power just feels so poor. Example, that General character with the silver transformation (can't remember his name), they say "He's stronger than Buu", but the way they kill him, can you imagine Buu dying to that attack? I can't. Think about what it took to kill Buu and compare it to how they killed that General character. I'll leave it at that, but can list more reasons if you want. I did kind of like Omega Shenron though, even though beings spawned from earth's Dragon Balls being that strong doesn't make sense, if you recall that Piccolo Daimao once destroyed Shenron (another example right there).

He literally didn't even tell us anything that was deleted just speculated that they may have been. Then told us that movies like the dead zone where Goku and Piccolo fight garlic jr, when before the saiyan saga they were enemies and nobody knew about Gohan and during Goku was dead and Gohan changed his look and learned to fight they then all went into space so again no time for it to happen, weren't canon and he never realized it until they announced it a few years ago. GT actually has Goku being serious when fighting his enemies. And super has him being an idiot while whole universes are being destroyed and he can't even be serious about protecting his own family from being wiped from existence.

The good and bad of GT: Super Saiyan 4: Good I don't think the form should be classified as a super saiyan (much less implied to be the next step after 3), but the design itself is really cool and I like the idea of it being an alternative transformation. Kid Goku: Meh It felt like shameless pandering to the fans of the original Dragon Ball fans, and it didn't actually contribute anything to the story. It would be one thing if making Goku weaker actually provided an opportunity for characters that had been left behind in the power creep, but every arc still falls on Goku every time. Shadow Dragons: Good The actual designs were a bit too gimmick-centric for my taste, but the concept was though provoking, unique, and actually something that could believably keep up with the power creep. Black Star Dragon Balls: Bad This was the catalyst for the whole series. A reason to hunt for dragon balls in the great unknown once again. However it just comes across like it was shoe-horned in. They also have no part in the story past the initial arc, so the only thing they contribute to the story is a throwback arc with wasted potential. The Ending: Fantastic I honestly can't think of a better way to end any of the series than GT's ending. It matches with Goku's personality, it's satisfying, and leaves the franchise open to new stories that don't rely on the old characters.

You can see the original concept of Super Saiyan with the Lord Slug movie. There's a golden aura, like the final design, but his hair looks more like it's under the influence of Kaioken than the final version of Super Saiyan.

I always thought the Shadow Dragons were a great final villain! Imagine the shock of something the main characters have always relied upon throughout the series suddenly turning on them! What are these guys talking about? Plus SSJ4 was cool!

The main problem with almost all the villians in Both Z and GT is that people just don't even try to get their point since, duh, they are villians. Dr. Gero - a man who lost like everything due to Goku destroying RRA (add all androids + Super 17 saga here). Cell - well, actually he is not an true villian if you think of it. The guy (I mean, bug) just is aiming to perfect himself ( And it just DOES NOT REMIND GOKU FOR A BIT, right???). Baby can also be counted as a payback for Saiyan actions. So the only like real villians are Frieza, Babidi (not even Buu, he is just a puppet got out of control), and, sorry to mention it, Garlic Jr. In Super we have Frieza AGAIN and, ok, one of the best sagas - Future Saga with Zamasu being an AWESOME villian... And that kinda it.. And, finally, BSDB saga, an epic way to close the series by showing that everything in the world has a price and having main character sacrificing himself and finally resting in peace. But instead we have Goku being selfish SOB throughout whole Super..

Toriyama has said that the pressure from his editor during the Future Trunks/Cyborg/Android Saga and the Cell Saga. Forced Toriyama to never slack off or rest, but like the Saga's keep pushing the boundaries and story. Its why Toriyama considers the Future Trunks/Cyborg/Android Saga and the Cell Saga to be his best work. Since his editor forced Toriyama to summon his talent at will and create history.

I'm not sure if you mentioned this in previous videos but the black-haired Super Saiyan form was temporarily reintroduced during the Other World portion of Z where Goku and Paikon fought the Ginyu Force, Frieza, and Cell in HIFL. I always saw this as a legendary form or design that could hold more lore potential, like ancient Saiyan forms or future form precursors.

Can we just point something huge out in the Dragon Ball world. Back in the Frieza Saga Mr. Popo made a wish to Shenron "I wish for all those slain by Frieza and his men to be REVIVED." But wait that would mean Plant Vegeta is back with all the Saiyan's. So this whole time in super Vegeta is trying to go to plant Salad (I don't know how to spell it) but yet his plant should be back to life along with Goku's father. I mean has no one pointed this out. No matter how many theories I hear this is never one.

There was a sequence dialogue in an episode of DBZ DUB (uncensored) that is deleted for some reason. When Cell came back and hit Trunks in the chest and before Vegeta attacks there was a trigger. Krillin quoted to Tien or Yamcha (i dont remember which) while talking about Trunks lay in the ground bleeding that Vegeta never cared about Trunks, this scene is cut out and zoom out in the next scene (all looking back to Trunks spitting blood) and that was where Vegeta got snapped and attack Cell.

But Cooler thought that that was stupid and always stayed in his first form never creating weaker forms and eventually found that he could transform into a more powerful form.

The Frieza saga always felt like it should have been the end. Goku attains legendary status, defeats the villain who destroyed his race, and goes missing closing out his story. Cell was a good addition with Gohan surpassing Goku and setting the stage for Gohan to take his place as the defender of Earth. Then the Buu saga stretched on throwing a bunch of stuff like two fusions and a new SSJ3 at the audience before just sort of fizzling out. I am glad we got more DBZ though. Can't complain about that.

I think the smiles may be because they already knew it wasn't perminant and that the universe 7 would win, the smiles reflecting lessons finally learned that the Angels themselves could not get through to the low mortal level universes. The piaty and pride and ruthlessness expressed by all but 7 was literally their undoing. Yet they got brought back to existance by the very people they blaimed and shunned...so self accountability and responsibility was learned as well as true respect for what was viewed as lesser / evil beings.

No his hair would still stick up being around as tall as he is. With super sayan 2 his hair would grow to be about I feet tall and still stick up. In super sayan 3 it would be like 3-4 times as long making ss3 useless for him because he would trip. I would have actually loved to have seen Gohan become the main character after the Cell saga. He could have had his own redemption arc, since it's pretty clear he ended up conceding to his Mother's demands and pursuing higher education instead of being a "martial artists bum". Gohan got lazy, he got weak and everyone knew it, but there could have been a moment where he really grew in to his own. Sure, he had a moment of realization in Super that he DIDN'T have to follow in his Father's footsteps and he rejected the idea of focusing on different states of super saiyan, which frankly, added a bit more variation than all of the ridiculous forms of SSJ that were later introduced, like SSJB. It's kind of boring seeing Goku always be the focus of the series. And while they did give older characters like Krillin and Master Roshi a bit of the lime light, it felt like lip service. We all know powerlevels are bullshit at this point, but it's still difficult to accept they had any chance at competing in the final arc of super.

TOP was made the way it was to be a purely fan service arc. And im happy for gohan, he always hated fighting and got what he wanted, settled down w videl and being a scholar. He’s a purely reactive character as he will only fight to protect his family and friends which means he would never be rubning round fighting the strongest people he can like goku. If gohan was main he wld have to either undergo a change to be more like his dad or dragon ball wld become a superhero series where a villain attacks earth, gohan stops him which wld get a bit repetitive. Point is gohan got what he wanted in life.

The reason why Buu was out of the Tournament of Power was because of the fans. He was supposed to be in the story originally, but because most fans hate the Majin Buu Saga, he was scrape. What they did was put Frieza on there because they thought he would be perfect, since that’s what most fans wanted to anyways. Also Vegeta was supposed have died on Earth when he faced off against Goku, but because fans loved the so much in Japan, Akira Toriyoma’s editor told him to keep him, that’s why he came back on Namek. Gohan was also supposed to be the next hero of the story , but because fans prefer Goku more to be the hero, he was scarp and Goku came back. The thing with the Angels can be explained. In the Tournament of Power what was supposed have happened was the Grand Priest was gonna surprised everyone and killed off the Zenos and taken power for himself, and then the actual arc would’ve been about the universes coming together and destroying him, because he is too powerful. But fans saw through that because there was a lot speculation online that was gonna happened, so that’s when Toei decided to scarp the idea and leave like it was. It would’ve ruined the surprised had fans known what it was.

12:44 Since in Dragon Ball Super during the "Future Trunks Arc", Trunks & Wiss explain about how different outcomes create different timelines, this would technically make Dragon Ball GT somewhat canon again as an alternate timeline as seen in episode 289 of Dragon Ball Z. Another fact that supports this is that in Dragon Ball Super, emperor Pilaf, Mai, & Shu are introduce as children without any explanation as to why since they were originally last seen as fully grown adults, this is because in the Dragon Ball Z manga, the Pilaf gang at some point during early Android saga they manage to gather all the dragon balls and make a wish to the dragon to be young again that unintentionally turns the three of them into babies, however that was never shown in the Dragon Ball Z anime therefore it never happened which led them to grow old as seen in GT. Because of this one factor in the story, this would mean that the Dragon Ball Z that we watched on TV is in fact the GT timeline and the Super timeline being actually the manga timeline. This also would explain why in Super, both Bulma's sister, Tights, and the Galactic Patrol, Jaco, make their anime debut and are never mentioned in DBZ. So with that now being a fact just as how it is explained in DBSuper by both Future Trunks and Wiss, this would mean that the GT timeline would not actually have any affect on Dragon Ball Super's timeline since they are completely different from one another. So technically Dragon Ball GT is not fully non canon, it is just an alternate outcome of Dragon Ball's future. (13:31) Basically one timeline has the Pilaf gang wish to the dragon and get turn into babies which is why later they are brought back into the anime as children, but in the other one they never got to make that wish therefore they come back into the anime as elderly. That is what split the the timeline into two, one being DBSuper and the other being DBGT, so is not fully accurate to say that GT is fully non canon.
