Turkesterone has been getting a lot of traction lately, largely thanks to its heavily marketing for being potentially the next big supplement rivaling steroids and testosterone. As dandy as that sounds, what does the research actually say about turkesterone (an ecdysteroid) and its impact on muscle growth and strength?
Let's dig a bit further about this interesting supplement, which isn't exactly as new as we believe it is (ecdysterone is a similar popular ecdysteroid). Does turk deserve the hype it has been getting?

@@PictureFit Being a channel promoting health and fitness to a large diverse audience, why is your main slogan get your protein? A very small minority of your viewers are and ever will be protein deficient nor will they benefit noticeably from an increase in their current protein intake, especially from a health standpoint- assuming that most of your viewers will get their protein from meat and processed foods/supplements. As a consequence, it becomes a missed opportunity cost to getting something that a vast majority of American is truly deficient in such as fibre and antioxidants. Unless you're targeting a very niche population such as competitive level bodybuilders who need every edge in their nutrition for muscle mass or a burn survivor patient in the hospital with strict nutrient intake for wound healing, how about revising your slogan to something more beneficial for the majority? I also find it quite hypocritical of you to always say it depends when giving recommendations and suggestions, but you're confident in giving this "get your protein" recommendation to your entire audience. When in fact your slogan should definitely not be taken as health advice if your viewers, for example, are in the 15% category of Americans with kidney disease. I hope you won't delete my comment and say "happy holidays" while refusing to provide any relevant counter arguments like you did on your previous video.

I’m 50 years old and have been training since I was 16. I’ve taken everything including gear. The best way I can explain Turkesterone is it’s like a low dose of a steroid such as Anavar or Primobolan. You aren’t going to get huge on it like you would with something like Tren or Anadrol. But you will get good strength, nice lean dry gains, good vascularity, improved cardio and improved recovery. I ran Turkesterone in a caloric deficit. In two months I lost 10 pounds but my strength increased and my shoulders and legs got bigger. No placebo effect those types of results simply don’t happen unless you are taking something like a steroid. This stuff is a godsend for people that don’t want to have the side effects from steroids. I will say unless you are absolutely working your ass off in the gym with intensity and are on point with your nutrition this stuff will do absolutely nothing for you! If you go to the gym and spend 90 percent of your workout on your phone save your fucking money! If you are new to lifting stick with creatine and protein powder. But if you have been training consistently for years give this a shot!

I was incredibly sceptical of turkestorone. I was also stuck in multiple plateaus across a variety of lifts - I've trained naturally for around 7 years, implemented consistent progressive overload, had a (mostly) good diet, and optimised sleep etc. So I was at the point where I was just trying to eek out any 0.5% improvement from absolutely anything I could. With keeping other variables the same, turkestorone supplementation has made a noticeable difference in strength across various lifts (I track each set/rep religiously, and have done for some time now). Maybe it's just placebo. But whether it's placebo or the compound itself, the outcome has been favourable.

I’m going to give my honest opinion, I took turkesterone for 2 months. Along with creatine and a good diet. I’ve been back into training hard for about 14 months now, but when I was on turkesterone I felt like I had incredibly fast recovery between sets, and was super setting nearly everything because of the energy levels I had. I also progressed fairly quickly on some exercises exercises like chest and shoulders that I have always been a bit weaker on. Now this could be placebo, there is no way to be certain, but I can hand on heart say that in the 9 years of training i have done on and off, I’ve never felt like that in the gym before. People always chase for the next easy route that brings them further in fitness. Hard and smart training, good eating, enough rest and sleep are the most crucial things in fitness. There definitely needs to be more research done on the subject. I tried turkesterone from MPMD for a month and did find a noticeable increase in strength. It mainly increased my pressing movements and I was able to PR a couple times in the month after a long plateau (4.5 years into lifting at this point btw). It didn’t affect my lower body movements as much but I did feel stronger on them but it could have been a placebo or something else. I also felt more energetic in my striking sport but that could have been a placebo, who knows. So I don’t know if it will work for everyone but it probably will work for most people, just don’t expect a miracle or for it to be as good as androgenic steroids without the sides. If you’re already taking your lifting, dieting, sleep, and supplements seriously, and feel like you want to get over a plateau or to just give it a try then go for it if you have the money. Also be careful where you get it from as yeah a lot of brands are mostly filler. To add on to the mechanism too, there appears to be a big difference in action between ER-alpha and ER-beta, with the former being linked to more traditionally observed estrogenic effects while the latter appears to be mainly linked to the preservation of nervous and muscle tissue and has similar effects in both genders.

I'm currently taking 4 of the HTLT caps per day as I got a really good deal on them and will run it for about 6 months and see what I think afterward. No planned changes in diet or workout other than normal small increases in weightload if/when I feel like I can progress up. So far it's been one month and I've had no huge effects from what I can tell (positive or negative). At most I expect it will have as much effect on me as creatine does (minor but noticeable). Anyway, we'll see at the end but the main point is that there absolutely does need to be a lot more true scientific research done, not just folks like me relying on our anecdotal evidence.

Whilst anecdotal evidence isn't the best option Mike, the way you're doing it is the best way to gather it imo. But what I can say is that my recovery has been better to a degree that I've actually noticed. Which I believe also has allowed me to push harder during workouts. So far I'm satisfied with my purchase. I didn't go into this with unreasonable expectations.

as a semi dedicated home fitness enthusiast well over 50 years old, working out 2-3 times a week who has tried a SARM or two, i can say definitively that the Turkesterone definitely moved the needle in a positive direction after a 12 week run. i ramped up to 200mg per day over 12 weeks. i'm not a gym rat and probably never will be - my diet is healthy but not bodybuilder on point, and i take vitamins and a variety of herbal test boosters and supps like Creatine, fenugreek, citrulline, BCAAs etc. but the turk gave me energy and increased strength and improved body definition. most importantly after going off of it now for nearly 6 weeks i continue to see small gains though the definition is beginning to fade a bit. just one example - i was doing roughly 12 body weight pull-ups before turk on a strong day, now i can do 11 reps with 20 pounds strapped to me. that to me is a significant increase in strength. i can now handle 9 reps at 50 lbs dumbbell curls neutral grip where i was managing maybe 4 max previously. if you're on 'gear' this is a very mild gain amount over 12 weeks, but for me it motivated me to keep doing it in a period where my routine was slacking and my strength was falling. so this stuff is a definite win for me. just wanted to have an opinion from a less hardcore bodybuilder to throw in there.

Ectysteroids act on estrogen receptor Beta, they don’t mimic testosterone at all. Estrogen receptor beta is linked to the preservation of muscle and nervous tissue, so taking ectysteroids like ecdysterone or turkesterone will help with preventing muscle breakdown, as opposed to testosterone which helps with building new muscle tissue. Different mechanisms of action. When bodybuilding you are building muscle and breaking down muscle all the time, the key to building muscle is to build more then you break down. If you prevent breakdown, you end up with more muscle tissue. This stuff literally does work when complexed with Cyclodextrin, and only a few supplement companies have complexed this supplement this way. When a study is done on ecdysterone or turkesterone that is complexed with Cyclodextrin and ran properly we will find evidence that this works. Mark my words. Also my anecdote: I have been training naturally for 10+ years and have hit my genetic ceiling. I hadn’t made progress for a long time. I Began running Ecdysterone from Intelligent Elephant (Dereks other company) for the last 4 months at 3 caps a day, with a 300 calorie surplus and I have gained 5 pounds while becoming leaner (I am sub 10% bodyfat) and I have made PRs in literally every lift. Preventing the break down of muscle tissue does not mean it builds tissue. If you have a certain amount of mass built, that mass will be protected by something like turkestrone or ecty, however it's not anabolic, it' doesn't act on any androgen receptors. There's nothing anabolic about it you will not have an increase in lean mass w the compound.

Here's one problem that I find with nutritional science. Final interpretations often don't properly address hyper-responders and outliers. You, as an individual, are not the average of 100 people. A certain substance might not work for 95% of people, but if you happen to be one of the 5% who got significant results, it worked for you. However, when a study draws the line, your results will be averaged with non-responders and the average results will be deemed statistically insignificant.
@nmlss-r9
@nmlss-r9 2 жыл бұрын
I get your point and in some cases thats a big issue. For example if you feel your quads better doing squats don't do lunges just because one study said so. But the statistical significance is needed to get anything useful from any study. Or else how do you differenciate between a random improvent caused by other reasons vs the actual substance you are testing? You can do a blind study on yourself, but to get any substantial information you need to spend a lot of effort and time. In this case there is not enough indications that the substance can even work for some people but not all of them. Are you gonna test every supplement with the effort required to draw conclusions?

This is why it would be good to do gene sequencing for subjects in fitness / supplement studies and see if any correlations can be found between results and particular genes. I’ve noticed I’m horny all the time recently 😅 probably tmi but it has been noticeable weirdly enough. This is just what I’ve experienced thus far. I've taken Turkesterone and Ecdysterone together. I think that there are two things to note: 1) Young guys still have lots of test, or should, and so may not recognize the benefits as nakedly as an older guy. This is because the benefit is subtle, but it's definitely real. 2) ALL compounds work based on your individual compatability. There are people who take actual roids and don't see the kind of results others do, and this is due to body chemistry. Some individuals have a superior biological response to certain compounds. Also, turk and ecdy have a very brief half life of like 9hrs. If you aren't spacing dosages throughout the day you might not be getting good coverage. Further, it operates by facilitating protein synthesis at a cellular level, specifically leucine. So, if you aren't coupling turk with a high protien diet, or at least bcaa supplementation... you're going to hinder your results. This is not an analogue of testosterone, however similar the name might be... you have to use it in the way it works, and it will help your body do what it does. Turk is great for strength and recovery, for many. Its safe and worth the try.

Did they just have them all lay in the sun and see what happens? 😂☀️💛

I think its possible that the workout protocol might have had less intensity, volume etc than what they were doing before the study? Though even then usually it only takes 1/3 to maintain... so the programming would have had to have been really shit.

I took it during a recent cut. I'm 6'4,Went from 235 pounds and 23ish% body fat to 205 currently and 16.5ish% body fat. All of my lifts stayed constant and some even improved (though no compounds). Squat: 385 Bench: 305 Deadlift: 485Overhead Press: 205. Obviously didn't make huge gains, but i never had energy or fatigue issues even when training on a deficit every day (this was about an 8 week cut, so the deficit was fairly large)

Good video and I agree with your analysis even though I am one of those who anecdotally reports positive effects from ectdy’s. What I tell others is that if you have the money, AND all of your foundational basis for fitness are in line with what your lifestyle can accommodate then go ahead and try out an ectdy and see how it affects you. But if you don’t have those foundations in place use your money on that first.

I read a significant portion of the comments on the video here and of those that gave anecdotal feedback, 100% were positive and 0% were negative. 100-0. Now what are we supposed to believe when we see comments like that? Not a single one said "I tried it and it did bupkis." You can't get that kind of lop-sided feedback for even creatine.

So 100% anecdotal but I went on a month cycle of ecydesterone and while I did see improvements in my lifts, the thing that stuck out to me most was I felt my recovery time was shorter. I wasn’t as sore the following days and didn’t feel as beaten up as I sometimes do. It might just be a mental thing but I didn’t change my routine in any way and no matter what the reason/cause to me the effects were real. Was it worth $50 for the bottle? For me yes because It just means I go out one night less a month and I feel it is beneficial for my gains. Will I buy it again? I already have and have 2 more bottles in my room. Am I a sucker? Maybe, but if it works for me or at least I think it does and there is no evidence that it doesn’t, why not use it. Background, I’m a 37 year old Asian male and I lift four days and rest one day (push day, pull day, legs, accessory day, then rest day, repeat). Been doing this for a little over a year (been lifting off and on for about a decade) and am pretty happy with my progress.

I started taking Turk 1000mg per day by recommendation of a friend. I've noticed a couple things. 1, my arms filled out immediately and it kind of shocked me. 2, if I take it preworkout, I get a very intense pump. I got bloodwork done and my total testosterone has improved by 100 points! I'm willing to bet it has other satellite interactions we do not know yet to put on mass. I suspect something in the pituitary because if it binds estrogen receptor beta or perhaps is an antagonist, it could tell the HPA to make more testosterone.
