Another type of mourning doll (also known as a death doll) is a tiny doll you would give to your female child so she could learn how to mourn. Back then, it was the woman's job to mourn the deceased. So when you had a little girl you would buy them a tiny doll and a tiny coffin so they could learn how to mourn family members. In my opinion that is kind of messed up to prepare kids for their family's death but to each theiron own! Comment what you think about death dolls/mourning dolls.

I have actually had a "graveyard picnic" a few times. Sometimes with my ex-husband when we were first dating, and a few times with some close friends. There was even a time period when I was a teenager where if no one could find me or get ahold of me, they knew to check our local cemetery and that they would find me there, "talking" to the graves of my lost loved ones. Usually if I was there to "talk" to someone, it was because I was feeling really sad, angry, or confused about something in life and I felt like there was no one I knew who was living that would be able to understand the sorrow, confusion, loneliness that I was feeling, or at least I didn't know anyone living that I could TRUST enough to let them know how I was truly feeling, what was going on with me at the time and the dead were sure to keep my secrets. Also, I suffer from insomnia. So there were times I would go to a trusted relative's grave and lay next to them for comfort and take a nap. It would honestly help me sleep. I always felt safe in a graveyard, since everyone there is dead. So it's not like I had to worry about someone trying to hurt me. The only living people I ever came across were the grounds keepers, mourners attending their own funeral party so didn't pay me any attention, or the occasional grave visitor who again, they were busy dealing with their own loss so didn't even really notice me.

I actually grew up in the 90’s having picnics in a cemetery. There was a beautiful one in my home town with a duck pond and a garden in the middle. It was really nice. My grandmother used to take me and my siblings to feed the ducks and we would have a picnic there. I continue to do this now on occasion. Although now a days, most cemeteries don’t seem to keep the garden/picnic areas anymore. I suppose because it’s less common for people to spend time there now.
