In regards to the alliance, it was a defensive alliance, with Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy agreeing to come to each other's aid if France attacked one of them, and Italy promising to remain neutral if Austria-Hungary was attacked by Russia. Sorry for being pedantic. I did enjoy your joke.
