This beginner to intermediate step-by-step tutorial series will cover all you need to know to create your own modular environment kits, this covers the basics that will allow you to expand your own vision and get creating environments that can be re-configured easily. We will be rising Maya, UE4, and Painter, but the principles can be used in any software.

pbUDK only works upto 2017 - for an alternative use (Maya) Batch Exporter 1.1 for Artstation - It's free for non-commercial. Great tutorial..

Hi, yes this was a bit of an old tool, I use mayas in-built game exporter now, file>game exporter- it has every setting you need to do the same thing. Once you are happy with the settings you can save them as a preset.

Thank you for this.. I am stuck though. Where the walls intersect what is supposed to be done, a corner piece of some sort? Is there a specific way that all modular models should be constructed, buildings at least? I'm looking at a few from unreal marketplace and how they were put together, but I don't see what I'm trying to figure out. Do the walls always set on the floor or do they go on the outside but then there is a gap to contend with. I've seen some even where there is a specific space (1 unit I'm guessing) for the floor to set on a foundation piece like on or in a house for instance.

There is no absolute way to do this, setting up a grid system and sticking to it, and deciding what way and how far out your details will protrude from the base assets as well as good pivot placement and texture usage is about as much as you can do, you will always run into problems especially when your scene gets more complex or interesting in shape. You can use trim sections to hide errors, and then eventually there will be areas that need unique parts to make a scene look good. We just try to get most of the way there with reusable assets. Some AAA games don't even cover every error, its amazing what ends up in a top game - but most people don't notice!. The way a modular kit is produced will also be different based off the game/concept or even the studio you are working for. Hope that helps a little 👍
