Money cannot replace the first four years of love from a mother and father. A nanny may or may not love you, may, or may not even be kind to you. But during the first four years of a child’s life, if they are given a good foundation of love from a mother and father, makes all the difference in emotional health later in life. She was lucky to be wealthy, no telling where her broken emotions might have taken her if she were poor.

She did at least used her wealth to do some good. If she had been poor she could’ve been much worse. I come from a poor, and I know what I’m talking about. It’s a long hard climb to get out of poverty and no one does it totally unscathed. I was lucky, even though my father left when I was a baby, I had a loving, decent, godly mother. My friends,, who were the same age as me, and in the same financial circumstances, but without that loving connection, became drug addicts, and prostitutes. My mother made all the difference in my life because she insisted that I strive to do the right thing. @dtschuor4595 ай бұрын
@@tessdurberville711Diana is certainly an example of how the wealthy and emotionally distraught turn out at the end of the 20th Century. You have to give Diana props though, she tried really hard to raise children that felt loved and connected. She had to fight “The Firm” to break many typical royal family protocols and create children who could grow up stronger than she felt.

Years ago I worked with a woman who's grandmother was in service to the Mountbatten family. She said that Edwina gave birth to a mixed race child that was given to Dr Barnados.

I always thought that Mountbatten was trying to undermine Queen Elizabeth and trying to take power from her. He wanted to be king.
@MythicMindScape216 ай бұрын
The Queen mother also thought that, she did not like how quickly Louis went from being great friends to the Edward the VIII to trying to get close to her husband as well as him being instrumental in the marriage of Phillip to Elizabeth. He was also very close to Charles; had Mountbatten not died it is very likely Charles would have married Mountbatten's granddaughter. Although Diana had known Charles since she was a child, it was at Mountbatten's funeral where she made a remark that sparked their future romance. At Lord Mountbatten's funeral, Lady Diana Spencer reportedly said to Prince Charles, "You looked so sad when you walked up the aisle at Lord Mountbatten's funeral. It was the most tragic thing I've ever seen. My heart bled for you when I watched. I thought, 'It’s wrong, you’re lonely-you should be with somebody to look after you.'

I really enjoyed this video. She was really quite an accomplished woman and past info I read of her only focused on her affairs. For a woman, at this time in history, it’s fascinating that within the confines of her status she was always searching for purpose and true love. She was way ahead of her time in that she lived her life as she wanted. It reinforces my thought that a woman should always be the mistress of her own destiny! I’ve subscribed and look forward to other videos.

The problem with having huge amounts of money and lots of social opportunities, be it High Society in the 20's and 30's UK or modern US actors and musicians, is that you push the boundaries, get comfortable, and then have to push the boundaries even further ..... And on, and on, it goes. It becomes a striving to find a fulfilment that never actually is found .....
@MissGBinFrance6 ай бұрын
I think she just lived her life on her own terms. Egocentric, selfish, hedonistic, a pure product of her time, class and wealth which allowed her all the caprices she wanted! Did she love Nehru ? Yes !! Did they have a physical relationship?? Don't know. Montbatten married her money, knowing he would have to look away. She did too. Some couples work like that. Look at V Sackville West and H Nicolson.

I don't know how the loss of an uninterested mother could be much of a tragedy, unless it was the loss of the possible opportunity to get to know her mother. Or to have her mother get to know her.
@dtschuor4595 ай бұрын
Even the extremely wealthy, despite spending so much time disconnected from their parents in early childhood, want to have a positive emotional connection to their parents. Certainly, losing your mother at age 11 is terrible. It doesn’t matter how lavish your nest is…

Thank you. Patricia served in the Women's Royal Naval Service during World War II and married John Knatchbull, 7th Baron Brabourne, in 1946. The couple had eight children. She remained active in public life, supporting charities and maintaining the Mountbatten legacy. She passed away in 2017. Pamela was very close to her parents, accompanying them to India when her father served as the last Viceroy. She has recounted her experiences in her memoir, Daughter of Empire. In 1960, she married David Hicks, a renowned interior designer, and they had three children.

Edwina's childhood was pretty "normal" for an aristocratic, or royal family. Parents weren't "hands on" & rarely spent much time with their children at all (unless for "photo opportunities"). The children were brought up by nannies & tutored at home, or shuffled off to private, boarding schools. The children themselves then went on & repeated their own parents lack of hands on parenting skills. Aristocratic & royal couples often entered "arranged marriages" with others of like "class". Once the "heir & a spare" was produced, both partners were free to have "discreet" affairs. Often these men would enter an affair with a married woman. As this was considered "wise" if a woman "fell pregnant". If the married, or unmarried woman did have a child, said men would honour their (acceptable) bastards, by becoming their Godfathers. Lois Mountbatten was gay. It was such an "arranged marriage" as afore mentioned. More recently, the Queen's children: 1st born: Charles: Married, commited adultery, 2 sons, divorced, remarriage with his former mistress, Camilla. NOTE: Camilla was his (married) long term mistress before (inclusive of the night before his marriage to Diana), during & after his marriage to Diana. For aristocratic men, having their wife "rogered", by a royal prince, that would one day become a king was actually quite an accolade. 2nd born: Anne: Married, Son & a daughter, commited adultary, divorced, remarried 3rd born: Andrew: Married, 2 daughters, cuckolded, divorced, his wife still resides with him 4th born: Edward: Gay, arranged marriage, son & daughter 😳

That is an interesting account of the life of Edwina Mountbatten, it shows her in an equally good and bad light, I can to an extent understand her promiscuity in her younger days, it must be very tempting to indulge yourself, when you have all the cards stacked so completely in your favour. She had a good life and towards the end she at least gave a little back by way of her work for the less fortunate.
