I love your mythical creatures series so much! I hope you keep doing these videos because watching them inspired me to ask my mother (a native Thai person) about any Thai folklore/mythical creatures. From what she said, ghosts are more common than mythical creatures in their folklore. One I found really interesting (because the story is very well known) is Mae Nak, who is a real person in Thai history. The basic story is that she died while giving birth to her child (who also died). You may find her ghost standing next to the river near her home, cradling her baby and singing lullabies. She loved her husband who was sent off to war so much her soul couldn’t move on. You can actually go her area, which has a pretty famous temple with her name, and pay your respects (everyone must respect her spirit and be polite). There are also other Thai ghosts built more on encounters, some which I find to look a little silly (like the Krasue), and some which I find sad/horrifying (like the Preta, it gives me Wendigo vibes but even more sad). If you could do a video on ghosts in folklore or folklore stories that are true according to history that would be awesome! I find Thai folklore to be very interesting, so I hope you can maybe feature it one day.

Fun fact about Slenderman, in some stories it's depicted that Slenderman is a skinwalker like entity with a higher intelligence as it's supernatural powers make it to be able to decive even the smartest survivalists and there's also a female varient but instead of tentacles like its male varient, the females are almost spiderlike in nature. Like a giant Jumping spider that stalks it's prey from the tree's and snatches those less mindful.

8:21 a common misconception of wendigos in American media is that they often depict them with an elk head with antlers which is not true at all. They do it for the sake of adding more horror to the design. If anything, they look like how the creator of the video described. Tall and exceptionally thin with gray skin. Other than that, they look somewhat human.
@wyattdickson1119 күн бұрын
Yeah it's because the first film depiction of one close up had the deer skull face, these are in fact an entirely different cryptid of algonquin lore known as the wentuja; a malevolent trickster that slowly psychologically tortures its prey before consuming them

By being face up, it allows the marchers to identify you, see you beneath them on the mortal plane, and pass by once they have deemed you to not be worth their attention and that you are not showing disrespect.

Ever heard of the Not-Deer? They were a myth in my home town (and probably a lot of other places) in Illinois. They're animals that look like deer at first but something is always... wrong with them, they might have misshapen features, or joints that bend the wrong way or features that are the wrong size. When you see one, you just immediately know it isn't a deer and feel intense uneasiness until they're out of sight.

7:17 and there are no stories of the wendigo actually wearing a skull of any kind, it's body is still human, it's soul and heart are not. They are normally (outside of pop culture) depicted as tall emaciated humans with pale skin, always hungering for it's next meal. ALSO it's not "dregar" it's either "drowgR" or "dourgr" even skyrim was closer with "drogr" I hate ribbing on people about pronunciation, but prounouncing draugr like that for it's entire case felt like a crime, it would have been passable if it was supposed to be drengr (norse for warrior) but it wasn't.

An important detail about the umi bozu is that when they ask for barrels and are given non bottomless ones, they start filling them with water and pouring that water into ship faster than the sailors can get it out, eventually capsizing the ship, and by giving them a bottomless one they won't be able to do so (another yokai which behaves similarly is the funayurei, however these arent massive sea monsters, just regular human sized ghosts) and with yokai origins being vague, a potential origin for them is being the vengeful spirits of priests (hence the name meaning sea monk) that were cast into the sea and drowned, of course there are other versions implying that they were always yokai

I lived waaay up north in Canada for a few years, and I only learned about the Wendigo from these native people at the convenience store. They were talking about a really scary hunting trip where they were stalked and followed for two days by what they believed was a Wendigo. They heard screaming from a woman in the distance and loud foot steps around them at night. I do know foxes and deer make some horrific sounds at night, similar to people screaming. I wonder if that's what they were hearing.

Theres 2 ways to escape the slit mouth woman, 1 for adults and 1 for kids. For kids: always carry candy, if you are stopped by the slit mouth woman, throw the candy behind her and she will always go to pick it up to return it to you, during that time you should run. For adults: Answer yes to her first question but immediately ask if she think you're beautiful/handsome. For some reason throwing her off of her script completely baffeld her and she is unable to answer your question and will simply leave. Idk why those methods work but they do according to the legends.
